Nike Pays Homage to Kobe Bryant With a New Kendrick Lamar Narrated Mamba Mentality Film 'Better'

The Black Mamba’s locker from the Lakers’ home court could be a piece of someone’s Kobe Bryant collection as the locker will go up for auction and is anticipated to be sold for over $1 million.

TMZ has reported thart the locker, which was set to be destroyed during renovations at the Staples Center in 2018, was saved by a maintenance worker who realized it belonged to Number 24. The worker kept it in storage for years until an memoribilia collector, who had the locker nameplate, purchased it to reunite the two pieces.

The famous locker will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s, is expected to sell up to $1.2 million and some of the final bid will go to charity.

“In keeping with Kobe Bryant’s legacy of philanthropy and community impact, a portion of the proceeds from the sale will directly benefit The Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation,” Sotheby’s told TMZ.

The online bidding goes live today(July 22) and ends on August 2.

Vanessa Bryant Receives Heavy Backlash Over Reaction To Joe Bryant’s Passing

Overall, it is no secret that Vanessa Bryant and Kobe’s parents were not particularly close. In fact, Kobe himself had some disputes with his parents. However, when Kobe passed away, Vanessa was never able to reconcile with Bryant’s family. On Tuesday, it was announced that Kobe’s father Joe Bryant had passed away at the age of 69. The new came as quite a shock, and it subsequently led to a statement from Vanessa on her Instagram story.

“Sending our condolences upon hearing the news of my father in law’s passing. We hoped things would’ve been different,” Bryant wrote. “Although the times we spent together were few, he was always sweet and nice to be around. Kobe loved him very much. Our prayers go out to family.” Unfortunately, her statement is currently getting some heavy criticism online. In the comments section on DJ Akademiks’ page, some fans felt as though she could have done without the statement entirely.

Joe Bryant, father of Kobe Bryant and former eight-year NBA veteran, died at 69.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bryant recently had a massive stroke. Kobe Bryant and Joe’s granddaughter Gigi preceded him in death from a Jan. 2020 helicopter crash.

Joe Bryant, nicknamed Jelly Bean, was the 1972 Pennsylvania Public League Player of the Year in 1972 averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in two seasons at La Salle. He would go on to be a first-round pick for the Golden State Warriors in 1975 before moving on to the Philadelphia 76ers and playing for the team that made the 1977 NBA Finals.

Bryant would move on to European ball after the 1982-83 season, followed by the raising and introduction of his son Kobe, who had a star career at Lower Merion High School.
