LA County Attorneys Accuse Man Who Lost His Family In Crash Of ‘Trying To Ride Vanessa Bryant’s Coattails’

A grieve-struck widow who lost his wife and daughter in the helicopter crash that killed NBA legend Kobe Bryant was told to stop riding Vanessa Bryant’s “coattails”.

Eight others were killed in the January 26, 2020 crash, including Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, and Christopher Chester’s wife Sarah Chester, 45, and daughter, 13-year-old Payton.

Kobe’s widow Vanessa Bryant and Chester both sued L.A. County after sheriff’s deputies shared graphic photos from the crash site in text messages. The lawsuit alleged one sheriff’s deputy showed crash scene photos on his smartphone to a bartender at the Baja California Bar and Grill on Jan. 28, 2020.

Attorneys for L.A. County argue that while Vanessa can prove the photos of Bryant’s charred body were shared in text messages among the officers, Chester can’t prove that photos of his wife and child were among the images.

The county’s attorneys filed a motion with the U.S. District Court in California asking U.S. District Judge John F. Walter and Magistrate Judge Charles F. Eick to separate Bryant and Chester’s lawsuit into two separate lawsuits.

“Chester cannot point to any evidence of photos depicting his loved ones,” the county argued.

“Given Kobe Bryant’s worldwide recognition, Bryant’s case is distinct. Chester should not be permitted to ride Bryant’s coattails and benefit from critical evidence that only pertains to Bryant.”

“Chester has shown his propensity to do this in nearly every pretrial filing and again at the July 8 pretrial conference.”

L.A. County deposed 40 witnesses who could not identify Chester’s family members in the grisly photos.

The county said Chester will “unfairly reap the benefits of the significant impact Bryant and her celebrity witnesses will have on this case.”

Hooper Turned Rapper DC The Don Rates NBA Stars’ Rap Bars

The rapper-hooper comparison might be a cliche, but cliches are cliches for a reason. It remains as true as ever: Rappers all want to be ballers and ballers all want to rap. Now, more than ever, the crossover (heh) has gotten ridiculous, blurring the lines between the two as former high school hoop stars like NLE Choppa and Quavo pen Billboard hits, and rap’s upper echelon guys get pro hoops co-signs from LeBron James like Lil Durk, sign pro contracts like J. Cole, or host their own in-home rec leagues like Drake.

Intriguingly enough, as more NBA stars dip their toes into rap careers, following in the footsteps of Shaq, Kobe, and Allen Iverson, it’s a little rarer to see ball players get serious about their rhymes. Of course, there’s Damian Lillard, who’s three albums deep into his career as Dame D.O.L.L.A., but for the most part, the current generation of NBA talent has yet to commit. Maybe they just need a little encouragement, and that’s where Milwaukee native/LA transplant DC The Don steps in.

The 6’7 rising rap star is best known for viral tracks like “Worst Day” and “Walk Thru,” but he’s probably just as well-known for his first song “Everything 1K” appearing in Big Baller Brand’s first sneaker commercial. That’s because he was a former Chino Hills High teammate of Lonzo Ball — another aspiring rhyme purveyor currently playing in the NBA — and his brothers LiAngelo and LaMelo. Obviously, DC went the other way, and so he’s willing to lend some of his expertise to rating NBA stars’ rap bars. Check out the video above.

A game-worn Kobe Bryant jersey was recently sold at an auction for close to $3 million.

The jersey was worn by the basketball legend during the 1996-1997 NBA season and for at least 2 games during the 1997 playoffs.

The jersey was auctioned off through SCP auctions. And after 26 bids an anonymous buyer purchased the jersey for $2,735,546 million, to be exact. According to David Kohler of SCP Auctions, the jersey had been estimated to sell between $3 million and $5 million before going up for auction.

This is not the only one of Bryant’s jerseys to sell for millions of dollars. Last year, another one of Bryant’s rookie jerseys sold for millions. The jersey was another yellow, game-worn jersey but was autographed by Bryant himself. The $3.69 million price tag made it the most a basketball jersey has ever sold for.

SCP also sold a rare, signed 1997 Precious Metal Gems Kobe card which sold for over $403,000.
