Kevin Porter Jr. Is Playing In Greece Following Domestic Violence Charges

Kevin Porter Jr. has not been in the NBA since he was arrested and charged with assault and strangulation. Porter allegedly attacked and strangled WNBA player and then-girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick in September of 2023. Gondrezick was sent to the hospital after the incident, where she was treated for a laceration to her face and neck pain from strangulation. Porter Jr. does not currently have an NBA contract and is not on any roster in the league. The Houston Rockets traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in October of last year. Porter was immediately cut.

Porter Jr. will remain out of the league for the foreseeable future. The guard has recently been seen playing professionally in Europe. Porter is apparently playing for $10k in Greece. It’s a far cry from the $80 Million NBA contract he squandered. He had announced his deal on his social media. Kevin Porter Jr Reaches Plea Deal In Girlfriend Assault Case

Kevin Porter Jr has reached a plea agreement with a New York court in regard to assault allegations filed last year. Porter Jr will plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and a harassment violation. However, he will be allowed to withdraw his plea if he completes a 26-week partner intervention program. This will essentially clear Porter Jr’s record if he completes this condition. “The resolution will allow Mr. Porter to put this incident, which involved false felony allegations and false facts, behind him with no criminal record and move forward,” Porter Jr’s attorneys said.

Porter Jr has long denied any allegations made against him. This was corroborated by his girlfriend and alleged victim Kyrze Gondrezick. The former WNBA player denied that Porter Jr had assaulted her and accused a New York DA of “manipulating” her. “It has been deeply frustrating and disturbing by the manipulation of what was stated by the prosecution. To be criminalized, harassed, and misrepresented at the expense of charging someone else is dishonoring and insulting to my integrity,” Grondrezick wrote in an open letter.

However, soon after the allegations became public, Porter Jr was traded to the Thunder, who then waived him. At the time of his exit from the league. Porter Jr was averaging 15.3 points and 5 assists a game. However, as ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news, many fans expressed hope that Porter Jr would not return to the league.

Porter Jr was a late first-round pick in 2019 and began his career in Milwaukee. Traded on draft night, Porter Jr played a season in Cleveland before starting his sophomore year on the inactive list due to a weapons charge. While it was later dropped, a negative locker atmosphere over the acquisition of Taurean Prince led the Cavs to trade Porter Jr to Houston. Cavaliers' Kevin Porter Jr. Arrested on Weapons Charge

Former Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. has reached a plea agreement in the assault of his former girlfriend and WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the former Rockets guard pleaded guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree.

In a September interview with the New York Post, Kysre Gondrezick said: “He didn’t hit me. He never balled his fists up and hit me. And he definitely didn’t punch me in the face numerous times…I don’t have any injuries to support that.”

In Sept.2023, Porter Jr. pleaded not guilty to two felony assault charges and was released on $75,000 cash bail, and an order of protection was placed.

Porter was facing felony assault and strangulation after allegedly striking his Gondrezick “repeatedly about the face with a closed fist, causing a laceration above her right eye and bruising and substantial pain to her face” at a Manhattan hotel.

Immediately following the assault, Gondrezick states Porter Jr. “pressure to her neck by forcefully squeezing it, causing her to experience difficulty breathing, redness and bruising to her neck, and substantial pain.”

Later, she stated in to the New York Post, no assault had taken place. According to ABC13 Houston, Gondrezick suffered a fractured vertebra in her neck. Prosecutors state the attack by Porter continued until Gondrezick ran into the hotel hallway covered in blood.

Gondrezick was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2021 and is currently a free agent. Porter Jr. was set to make $15 million with the Rockets next season.
