Britney Spears is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in pop music’s history. Since her rise to stardom in the late nineties, the “Princess of Pop” has also been in quite a few high-profile relationships. While some names like Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline stand out, the “Baby One More Time” singer has some other notable names in her dating history. She is currently single, however.
Her recently released memoir, The Woman In Me, has been taking the public down memory lane. Some topics she’s explored include the many highs and lows in her career, as well as her recently ended conservatorship and gaining back her freedom. Additionally, it also shines some light on her romantic history and the intricacies of her relationships. From the brief romances to her deepest loves, let’s take a look at the relationships Britney Spears has had since her rise to fame.
The “Toxic” singer had met Justin Timberlake when they were both child stars on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club in the early nineties. Their friendship eventually blossomed into a dreamy union that lasted four years. Unfortunately, the relationship ended on a sour note in 2002 with rumors of infidelity on the part of both singers.
With the release of The Woman In Me, some previously unknown details about their time together have been revealed. For example, Britney Spears revealed that she terminated her pregnancy because the former NYSNC star “was not ready to be a father.” Understandably, Timberlake has been receiving widespread backlash since these revelations have surfaced.
Wade Robson (2002-2003)
Rumor had it that Britney Spears was hooking up with choreographer, Wade Robson, while she was dating Justin. Perhaps these rumors were fueled by the fact that she got together with him not long after her former relationship ended. Nonetheless, they did share a brief romance between 2002 and 2003. Robson and Spears were together for about a year before they called it quits in 2003.
After things ended with Robson, Britney was linked to both Jared Leto and Fred Durst. However, Spears never admitted to dating any of these men. She did, however, admittedly date Irish actor, Colin Farrell. Moreover, she shared that they had a passionate, sexually driven fling that lasted about two weeks. The pair also were seen making out at a nightclub in L.A.
Columbus Short (2003)
Britney Spears and Columbus Short had a brief fling in 2003. Their romance was rather short-lived, especially as Short had an eight-month pregnant wife at the time. Per Hollywood Life, the affair resulted in the end of Columbus’s marriage. Previously, Columbus had been a backup dancer for Britney, but that also ended after their affair came to light. In his 2020 autobiography, Short Stories, Short revealed that Spears’ parents did not approve of their brief time together. Moreover, he claimed that they referred to him with a racial slur while on the phone to their daughter.
Jason Alexander (2004)
Britney’s shortest relationship is her marriage to Jason Alexander, which lasted only 55 hours. The wedding took place in Las Vegas, and Britney has since admitted she had been drunk and was just having fun. Jason Alexander was a childhood friend, and according to her memoir, they were not in love. The timespan of their annulled marriage quickly became a famous topic at the time.
Kevin Federline (2004-2007)
In the same year of her 55-hour long marriage, Britney fell in love and settled down with Kevin Federline. Federline had once been a backup dancer for Justin Timberlake. The marriage seemed to be going well until 2007, when Britney filed for a divorce due to irreconcilable differences. The union also produced two sons, one in 2005 and another, one year after. Their relationship was widely covered by the media. Post-divorce, Britney Spears became catnip for the paparazzi, especially as her infamous shaved-head “breakdown” occurred soon after their divorce.
After ending things with Kevin Federline, Britney briefly dated J.R. Rotem, a music producer. Later that year in December, she surprisingly got with photographer Adnan Ghalib, while he was married. Spears’ relationship with Ghalib also came as a shock because he was a paparazzo. At the time, cameramen and flashing lights were unwelcomingly all over Britney. The relationship was short-lived, however, and ended with Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, filing a restraining order against Ghalib.
Jason Trawick (2009-2013)
Jason Trawick was Britney’s manager at the time, and their relationship was one of her longest. The pair were also engaged, but unfortunately, it was abruptly called off after one year. At the time, the rumor mill insisted that Trawick was simply a spy for Jamie Spears, but he denied it. This rumor was further fueled by the fact that he became a co-conservator with Jamie Spears. Trawick recently received backlash for revealing on Kevin Connelly’s podcast that he believed Britney Spears needed the conservatorship at the time. He claimed Federline was spending a lot of her money and she needed someone to give her “some guidance.”
David Lucado (2013-2014)
Britney Spears met David Lucado at a party and was reportedly introduced to him by her friends. This introduction blossomed into a relationship that lasted for a few months. Unfortunately, Spears had reportedly found a video of David making out with someone else. Expectedly, this led her to call it quits.
Charlie Ebersol (2014-2015)
Britney Spears met Charlie Ebersol through her assistant not long after her split from David Lucado. The relationship lasted for only a few months, as the couple split in mid-2015. Nonetheless, the relationship succeeded in shying away from headlines while it lasted. Ever sold was notably private, while Spears had been adjusting to a more serene lifestyle.
Sam Asghari (2017-2023)
Sam Asghari was Britney’s most recent heartthrob, and their union of six years is her longest ever. Their relationship began in early 2017, but they actually met in 2016 on a music video set. Their relationship went on relatively well, with Sam supporting the pop superstar through the court proceedings that ended her 12-year-long conservatorship. The couple also got married in 2022, with high-profile guests like Drew Barrymore and Madonna in attendance. Unfortunately, they got separated in August 2023, after one year of marriage and a six-year relationship.
K-Fed is about to move to Hawaii, and he’s taking his sons with him. Their mother, Britney Spears, has not seen any of them in over a year with intention. And now it sounds like Kevin Federline won’t force his kids to go see their mom before the tropical relocation. Sons Sean Preston and Jayden have the choice of saying goodbye to Britney before they jet off to Hawaii in August. As of this writing, they have yet to make a decision.
Kevin Federline is actually encouraging the brothers to go see Britney. But he won’t force them or pressure them into doing something they don’t want to do. According to TMZ, Kevin’s attorney and Britney’s lawyer exchanged a letter where K-Fed was asking Britney permission to move the boys to Hawaii with him and his current wife. In order for them to actually relocate, they needed Britney’s permission, which she gave a few days ahead of an imposed response deadline.
With being allowed to move, this closes what might be the final chapter of the K-Fed and Britney saga. Despite the tumultuous relationship between the parents, they have recently been nothing but supportive of each other. Britney didn’t fight the Hawaii relocation. Kevin Federline recently defended Spears after a Daily Mail report claimed she was on methamphetamines. After allowing the Hawaii move, Spears took to social media to support to her sons, calling her eldest, Sean Preston, “her first love.”
This isn’t the first time Britney has dealt with family dilemmas. She got out of a traumatic conservatorship with her father back in 2021. This was after 13 years of her father abusing his powers as conservator of her estate. She’s also had a falling out with her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears. Her mother implores that she reconcile with Jamie Lynn. Seeing as she allowed her sons and Kevin Federline to move to an island, perhaps she extends the olive branch to her sister as well.
Britney Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, has shot down a report from the Daily Mail that suggested the singer’s family is worried that she is on meth and could die of an overdose. The outlet claimed to have spoken with Federline, and her estranged father, Jamie Spears, about Britney’s situation during a recent interview.
“It saddens our family that Daphne Barak and Erbil Gunasti have decided to fabricate lies and publish the heartache our family has endured, along with the trauma of our minor children in the Daily Mail and The Sun,” Federline wrote in an Instagram Story statement, Sunday. “We did allow Daphne & Bill into our home because we trusted them, but that trust was lost and we severed ties back in March for many reasons we choose not to go into here. It is very distressing that she continues to harass our family when we have repeatedly asked her to leave us alone.”
As for the Daily Mail’s report, they quoted Federline as saying, “I fear she’s on meth. I’ve been praying someone would make it public and that she wakes up. It’s terrifying. She is the mother of my boys.” They also mentioned Jamie comparing Britney to Amy Winehouse, who died of alcohol poisoning at just 27 yards old in 2011 after battling with substance abuse.
“Every time the telephone rings, I fear that there will be devastating news,” they further quoted Federline as saying. “I don’t want the boys to wake up one morning and find their mother has taken an overdose.” Britney and Federline were married from 2004-2007. They share two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden.
Kevin Federline Responds On IG
The comments from Federline come as Spears celebrates her first wedding anniversary with her husband, Sam Asghari. The two tied the knot in the backyard of Britney’s home in Thousand Oaks, California on June 9, 2022.
Britney Spears is making things hard on her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. He has allegedly set a Friday deadline for Britney’s lawyer to approve his planned relocation. The pop star’s ex plans to move to Hawaii with their two children. If the lawyer fails to give consent, Kevin intends to take the matter to court and seek approval from a judge. That is according to a report from TMZ. Kevin’s attorney has reportedly made multiple requests to Britney’s lawyer. He has asked for written confirmation that Britney is agreeable to the move. However, no response has been received thus far.
The planned move is scheduled for August 1st. Kevin is under pressure to finalize arrangements, including securing a rental property. His wife, Victoria Prince, has received a job offer from a local university’s sports department and needs to commit. Kevin’s lawyer asserts that there should be no issue regarding their two children. The two are now 16 and 17 years old. He claims that Kevin has full legal custody and de facto physical custody. He further notes that Britney has not seen the boys in over a year. Elsewhere in Britney’s family life, she seems to be healing.
Britney Recently Reconciled With Her Mother
According to TMZ, Britney Spears and her mother, Lynne, had a rare in-person meeting on Wednesday night. Britney welcomed her mother into her home once she arrived in Los Angeles. During their approximately 30-minute conversation, Britney’s husband, Sam Asghari, was also present. It was reported that Britney was not aware of the exact timing of Lynne’s visit. She did, however, know that her mother was in town to see her.
Sources claimed that there appears to be a thawing of the relationship between mother and daughter. Apparently, they have been exchanging text messages recently. Lynne felt confident enough to travel from Louisiana to Los Angeles to meet with Britney. This indicates her commitment to reconciling with her daughter. However, considering Britney’s recent statement referring to TMZ as “the trashiest news channel,” it is likely she was not pleased with the report.
The Ex-husband of Britney Spears, Kevin Federline, reportedly plans to move her two sons to Hawaii. Reports say Federline had his lawyer send Spears a letter, asking if she would be okay with her sons’ relocation. It is also reported that Federline’s lawyer expects to hear back from the pop star‘s representation within the week. It’s said that if Spears disagrees with the decision to move the children, the case will be taken to court. Federline would then have to ask a judge to grant permission. Sources say they don’t believe the case will get to that point.
A source also told TMZ that the reason for the family’s move is a job offer that Federline’s wife, Victoria Prince, received in the area. Sources add that their decision to move is influenced by Federline’s ability to DJ in Hawaii, while the children live a more quiet life. It was added that Spears’ and Federline’s son, Jayden, would complete schoolwork online while their other son will have graduated.
Spears Faces Another Battle
Ahead of TMZ’s documentary, Britney Spears: The Price of Freedom, rumors circulated of trouble in her marriage to Sam Asghari. Sources told TMZ that Spears has gotten physical with him before, adding that screaming between the couple is common. They also claim that depite the couple’s June wedding, Asghari doesn’t stay in the same house as Spears’ very often. The trailer for the documentary fueled the rumors, as it claimed that after her conservatorship ending, Spears was dealing with “big problems.” A clip of TMZ’s editor Fabian Garcia claiming that she got physical with her husband can also be heard in the trailer.
Further concerns surrounding Spears’ well-being were shared in the trailer. One concern included the suggestion from TMZ executive producer Charles Latibeaudiere to, “keep knives away from her.” Despite the rumors, another source said that Spears’ marriage to Asghari is doing fine. The source claimed that “All is good,” adding, “Sam is working on a project and [Britney] is on a vacation.”
Earlier this month, Britney Spears found herself in a spat with ex-husband Kevin Federline after he claimed her sons were distancing themselves from her. Nicki Minaj didn’t at all care for how that went down, so now she has sided with Spears and shared some unflattering words about Federline.
On the August 16 episode of Minaj’s live Queen Radio show, Minaj started:
“Do you understand what kind of a clown you have to be to be a whole grown f*cking man and as soon as you see somebody happy and getting married and moving on and being free and feeling good in their own skin, to do the very thing that you know is going to attempt to break them down? Going to the media. Only cowards use the media against a famous person who they once loved, they procreated with, they once were being taken care of by, using the person’s fame as this constant ‘gotcha’ moment, and you think you’re not going to f*cking have karma from it? You think it’s OK? You think that anybody is going to feel sorry for you?”
She continued with praise and more empathy for Spears:
“She loves her kids more than life itself. As soon as y’all see people feeling strong and good and confident and happy, and you no longer have them by the f*cking balls, you want to take your little goofy ass and do some motherf*cking interview. How dare you. How dare you encourage this woman’s children to be a part of your nonsense. And when they look back, they’re going to say, ‘Why? Why? Why did we do this?’ They’re kids, they don’t know how detrimental this is, but you know, c*cksucker. Leave her the f*ck alone!”
