Kanye West Didn’t Release ‘Donda’ After His Listening Event And The Internet Isn’t Surprised

In recent years, Kanye West has proven himself untrustworthy when it comes to doing things on time. He routinely misses scheduled release dates for his albums and that spirit of tardiness even carried over to his failed presidential campaign. So, when a release date for West’s upcoming album Donda was “confirmed” earlier this week for July 23 (aka today), it remained to be seen if the project would actually come out on that day.

Typically, albums are released at midnight on their release date, so it seemed like West’s huge listening event at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium (which was of course delayed by a couple hours) would be a perfect lead-in to Donda‘s debut on streaming platforms. However, both fans who stayed up for the anticipated midnight release and those who expected to wake up to Donda this morning were left disappointed but not surprised: As of this post, Donda is not available on streaming platforms.

As it became clear that Donda isn’t out yet, the album title became a trending topic on Twitter as fans shared memes. These posts expressed disappointment, sadness, and bemusement as fans kicked themselves for not expecting a delay.

There are still plenty of hours left in this July 23, though, so Donda could still make its announced release date. As the world waits to see if that actually happens, check out some of the reactions to the album’s delay below.

Jay-Z’s Appearance On Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ May Signal That The Two Rappers Are Finally Back On Good Terms

Earlier this week, the hip-hop world celebrated the ten-year anniversary of Funk Flex’s memorable radio premiere of Jay-Z and Kanye West’sOtis.” At that moment, the track was the second single from their soon-to-be-released joint album, Watch The Throne. That moment proved to be a huge one as it built up anticipation at an exponential rate for the project. Fast-forward to the present and many shared where they were during Funk Flex’s radio premiere of “Otis,” but it all came with the reminder that in today’s world, Jay-Z and Kanye West haven’t been on the best of terms. However, it turns out that the Watch The Throne duo may have fixed the issues in their palace.

During Kanye West’s listening event for his upcoming album, Donda, the Chicago rapper premiered a track with Jay-Z for the thousands of fans in attendance at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The song, which has an unknown title at the moment, saw Jay-Z show a lot of love to Kanye.

“Donda, I’m with your baby when I touch back road,” Jay raps on the song, later adding, “This might be the return of the throne / Hova and Yeezy like Moses and Jesus / You’re not in control of my thesis / You already know what I think about think pieces.”

The track comes after a few moments that showed the two could end up on better terms. At the end of 2019, Jay-Z named Kanye’s “Follow God” as one of his favorite songs of the year, which came shortly after they reportedly ended all legal feuds. Last summer, Kanye spoke publicly about Jay, saying, “Miss my bro … real talk” in a Twitter post that showed the two acts performing together.

You can listen to a snippet of the track in the video above.

Kanye West’s Listening Event For ‘Donda’ Is Finally Underway After A Lengthy Delay

More than a year after he first announced the project, Kanye West finally revealed when the world would receive his tenth album, Donda. The rapper announced the project would arrive this Friday, July 23. As expected, fans all over the world quickly built up their excitement for its release. To build up the anticipation for Donda, Kanye also announced a huge listening event for the project set to take place at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 75,000-capacity venue that’s home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

The event was slated for an 8 p.m. kick-off time, but to the surprise of no one, the event did not start at its intended time.

Thankfully, nearly two hours later, Kanye kicked things off for the night. The show began with what seemed to be a recording of Kanye repeatedly singing, “We gonna be okay,” as an organ played loudly in the background. The camera panned out to show him rocking a red bubble jacket while moving all across the stage, which was essentially the full stadium floor covered in some type of white material.

Prior to the show, Kanye was spotted backstage at the stadium putting the final touches on the album. This includes sequencing the project’s presumed tracklist, making last-second tweaks with producer and engineer Mike Dean, and apparently inviting acts like Playboi Carti and 2 Chainz to record additional verses for Donda.

Rumors of the arrival of Donda first began when Kanye and Tyler The Creator were spotted in the studio together, presumable working on the album together. Shortly afterward, the album was confirmed for a release through a Beats By Dre commercial featuring track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson that also featured his currently unreleased track, “No Child Left Behind.”

Kanye West Will Reportedly Make A Surprise Appearance At Rolling Loud Miami This Weekend

In the world of Kanye West, things tend to go from 0 to 100 quickly. Last weekend, with no warning, there was a listening event for Donda, and now the album is set to come out tomorrow. Now, there are two major live events on the horizon: West is hosting a listening event at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium tonight, and it looks like he’ll be performing at Rolling Loud Miami this weekend.

Rumors of this performance have been circulating for a few days. On July 20, West’s longtime collaborator Consequence shared notepad drawings of a pyramid, seemingly in reference to West’s stage design, and noted that West will be performing at the festival on Sunday. Now, we have something closer to official confirmation of West’s appearance, as Billboard reports (citing “a source close to the situation”) that it’s happening.

Meanwhile, West shared what appears to be the tracklist for the album via an Instagram post last night, which shows song titles written on a whiteboard. As NME notes, there are some differences between this tracklist and the one West shared a year ago. While there are a number of songs that have stuck around, tracks like “Pure Souls” and “We Made It” are new to the album.

Azealia Banks Insults Kanye West And Accuses Him Of Copying Her Art

As Kanye West is getting ready to release his album Donda, the rapper has made his return to social media. On Instagram yesterday, he shared some photos of himself wearing chains that feature the names of his children. While hip-hop fans are excited (or at least curious) about what Kanye has coming next, that post seems to have rubbed Azealia Banks the wrong way, as she thinks West ripped her off.

Today, she took to Instagram and shared the cover art for her 2019 song “Billionaire Bully,” which is definitely visually similar to West’s new images. She then shared one of the West photos and captioned the post with an insult: “Should have exfoliated before trying to bite me. @kanyewest”

However, she seemed to contradict the insult with a follow-up photo, which features her hand sporting fake nails that read “YEEZY.”

The accusation and insult also come after a stretch of apparent fascination about West from Banks. She recently insisted that her new single “F*ck Him All Night” is about West, saying, “This is about f*ckin him all day and f*cking him all night. This is about the throbbing black billionaire c*ck. Get into it.” In April, she also said she wants to have a kid with West, writing, “The powerful black demon entity awaiting in my ovaries and kanyes testicle is finally about to be unleashed upon the world.”

Banks fans know that all of this comes after years of beef between her and West, so at this point, it’s hard to say how Banks truly feels about West.
