49 is big number. Tonight (May 18), Saturday Night Live closed out its 49th season with a bang. Though finishing 49 seasons is a huge milestone, tonight’s host Jake Gyllenhaal was seemingly hoping to be in the running to host the premiere of season 50, which will take place later this year.
But of course, Gyllenhaal was determined to make this finale special. Near the end of his opening monologue, Gyllenhaal broke out into song — a special rework of Boyz II Men‘s ’90s classic, “End Of The Road.”
During his cover, Gyllenhaal surprised the audience with his pipes, delivering strong vocals as he hilariously jokes that Pedro Pascal and Ryan Gosling were asked to host this episode before him (even though they have both previously hosted this past season).
While Gyllenhaal was captivating the audience with his singing, a few of the cast members elevated the performance.
Punkie Johnson, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, and Devon Walker joined in, giving the song additional harmonies, taking it to the next level.
Although a hosting slot for the season 50 premiere of SNL is highly coveted, the quality of this opening monologue is going to be hard to match.

Acting icon Denzel Washington is heading back to Broadway, and he is poised to play Othello, William Shakespeare’s tragic African general. The new production will be opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Talk about two Hollywood heavyweights sharing the stage for one of Shakespeare’s greatest stories.
Kenny Leon is directing the production of Othello by producer Brian Anthony Moreland. Washington plays Othello, and Gyllenhaal stars as Lago, his nemesis who ruins his life and marriage.
Most of the upcoming Broadway rendition of Othello is being kept under wraps, but the production will kick off in the spring of 2025.
The last time Washington dipped his toe into Shakespeare was in Kenneth Branagh’s 1993 film Much Ado About Nothing. The film also starred Branagh, Emma Thompson, Keanu Reeves and Michael Keaton. Washington also starred in The Tragedy of Macbeth, an Apple TV+ film directed by Joel Coen, and co-starred Frances McDonald and Alex Hassell.
Washington is also starring as another iconic historic African general, Hannibal, in a film by Antoine Fuqua.
Post Malone was spotted in some gnarly makeup as Jake Gyllenhaal shared photos from the set of Road House. Malone’s makeup appeared to indicate that he had just shot a fight scene, given the bruised and bloody look he was sporting. “A man of many talents. To say it was a pleasure working together is an understatement. Welcome to the #roadhouse @postmalone!” Gyllenhaal wrote on Instagram.
Road House is a reimagining of the 1989 Patrick Swayze film of the same name. In the original, Swayze plays a bouncer at a Missouri bar who must protect the establishment from a corrupt businessman. However, in this new version, “A former UFC middleweight fighter [Gyllenhaal] ends up working at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys where things are not as they seem.” The film is set to open South by Southwest next month and will be available on Amazon on March 21.
However, Road House is just the latest example of Malone flexing his non-musical interests. Last year, Malone became the proud owner of the One Ring Magic: The Gathering card. In March, Wizards of the Coast released a Lord of the Rings card set for their massively popular competitive card game. Within this crossover collection was the One Ring, based on the One Ring of Power from the iconic fantasy series. Additionally, The One Ring card is truly unique – a one-of-one, serialized, foil-printed card. Furthermore, it was placed into a random Collector Booster pack somewhere in the world.
According to a post on X from Brook Trafton, Malone has now acquired the One Ring card. Trafton had previously spoken with outlets such as Dexerto anonymously through his PR presentation, The Notable Group. However, Trafton went public to share the news of the sale to the acclaimed musician. “This is my dream come true, meeting @PostMalone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale. @PostMalone @wizards_magic you’ve changed my life. Things like this don’t happen to people like me. Forever grateful #mtg #onering,” Trafton wrote on X, also sharing a video of him meeting Malone and safely delivering the card.

Conor McGregor, 34, is the latest professional fighter to go from the cage to the silver screen as it was announced on Wednesday that the former UFC champion will be making his acting debut, starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming Road House remake.
“Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of ‘Road House,’ a beloved classic,” said McGregor’s publicist Karen J. Kessler in an official statement. “While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming.”
According to various sources, the Amazon Studios-produced reimagining of the classic 1980s film starring Patrick Swayze will star Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter — who like the original — returns home to the Florida keys to become a bouncer. The film goes into production in the Dominican Republic this month and set to be released on Prime Video in 2023. McGregor’s role in the film is currently unknown.
Outside film, McGregor is currently healing from a fractured leg he sustained in July 2021 in a MMA match with Dustin Poirier. McGregor was ranked the highest-paid athlete of 2021 after selling majority of his Proper Twelve whiskey brand to Jose Cuervo in April 2021 that was worth $600 million.
Talks of a second boxing mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and himself in the works have been swirling around newsfeeds in recent weeks. More as the story develops.
“All Too Well,” Taylor Swift‘s most beloved (and best) song, is rumored to be about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. “Rumored” as she never names the actor in the Track Five (because nothing rhymes with “Gyllenhaal”?), but come on. There’s a reason he’s public enemy No. 1 among Swifties on the day that Red (Taylor’s Version) came out — “All Too Well: The Short Film” probably isn’t going to win him any fans, either.
The 13-minute video of the 10-minute song premiered on Friday at New York City’s Lincoln Center 13, where Swift also performed the song live for the first time. Now, the short film can be enjoyed by everyone — except Jake and Maggie, presumably — as it’s available on YouTube. The emotional part-music video, part-domestic drama tracks the relationship between Stranger Things standout (and Swift mega-fan) Sadie Sink as Not-Taylor and Dylan O’Brien as Not-Jake; there’s also a surprise cameo at the end.
Swift, who directed the short, told Seth Meyers that if Sink had said no to the role, “I don’t think I would’ve made it. I don’t think I would’ve made the film. I think I would’ve just been like, this is a sign.” You can watch “All Too Well: The Short Film” above.
