Ja Morant, the dynamic point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has made significant waves in the NBA since his debut. As of 2023, his net worth is estimated to be around $50 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. But how did he amass such wealth in such a short span of time? Born as Temetrius Jamel Morant on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina, Ja’s basketball journey began in his backyard, practicing with his father. His talent was evident early on, and by the end of his high school career, he was Crestwood High School’s all-time leading scorer. His outstanding performance on the court led to a four-year $39.6 million extension. By September 2022, he signed a whopping five-year $193 million maximum rookie contract extension with the Grizzlies. This deal, based on various bonuses and milestones, could escalate to $231 million, bringing his average annual salary to an impressive $38.6 million.

Beyond his earnings from the NBA, Morant has secured lucrative endorsement deals that have significantly contributed to his net worth. He signed a multi-year contract with Nike in 2019, which pays him $12 million annually. This partnership even led to the release of the “Hunger Ja 1” signature shoe in April 2023. Additionally, Powerade recognized Morant’s rising star power and signed him for a multi-year deal, paying him $10 million annually. This deal was announced in March 2023, with Powerade committing a substantial amount for commercials, radio, and billboards featuring Morant.

However, every journey has its bumps. Shortly after the Powerade deal was announced, a video surfaced showing Morant brandishing a gun. This led Powerade to pause all their ad campaigns featuring him. Nike also faced challenges with Morant, removing his shoes from their website and app after a second controversial video surfaced in May 2023.

Ja Morant Posts Up In The Gym Ahead Of NBA Season

Ja Morant has been spotted working out in the gym as the start of the NBA season draws closer. Morant will miss the first 25 games of the 2023-24 season as he serves as suspension for his second offense of flashing a gun on Instagram Live. It’s the second piece of offseason footage we have of Morant. In late August, an Instagram user posted clips of Morant working out with David Roddy and GG Jackson.

Morant is expected to return on December 23, the first in a four-game Christmas road trip for the Grizzlies. However, the 2022/23 two-seed will have to find a way to stay competitive without their star player for the first almost-third of the season. With the Western Conference becoming increasingly stack during the offseason, it’s hard to say where the Grizzlies will be when Morant returns to the team.

However, Morant’s legal troubles might just be beginning. In July 2022, Morant reportedly got into an altercation with Joshua Holloway, who was 17 at the time. Holloway had been attending a pick-up game at Morant’s home in Tennessee. There, he claims he was assaulted by Morant and Morant’s friend Davonte Pack. An initial investigation was opened and quickly closed, with no charges filed. However, a Washington Post report, released alongside a civil suit filed by Holloway, revealed a lot of questionable details in the original investigation. Morant is now embroiled in that suit, which alleges assault, reckless endangerment, abuse or neglect, and infliction of emotional distress. However, Morant has filed a countersuit for slander, battery, and assault.

Per court filings from July, Morant’s team is arguing that Morant has immunity under Tennessee’s Stand Your Ground law. This allows an individual to act with force in self-defense if threatened on their own property. This stems from the claim that Morant only hit Holloway after Holloway struck Morant in the chin with a basketball. While Morant’s team has claimed that this was deliberate, Holloway’s team has argued that the then-teenager was simply performing a “ready check”. However, it is important to clarify that Morant’s team does not deny that Morant did indeed hit Holloway. Instead, it’s the circumstances and reasons for the assault that they dispute. The judge has set a hearing date of October 12 to hear the motion.

Tee Morant, the father of Ja Morant, was speaking at the Up Next Elite Camp in New Orleans and was letting players know how their decisions will impact them. During the conversation, Morant revealed his son’s suspension is a result of his actions.

“Make sure anytime y’all anywhere, know the capabilities of everybody around you,” Tee Morant said. “My son didn’t get in trouble for the people around him, he got in trouble for his decisions so, always be mindful of every decision y’all make. Because, it could pretty much, take over you and can consume you and make you think that you’re who you’re not.”

Morant added, “The smallest thing you can do can make the biggest difference in your life.”

Ja Morant’s Father Speaks On His Suspension

Tee Morant, the father of basketball player Ja Morant, recently spoke on his son’s suspension from the Grizzles. The 24-year-old’s 25-game suspension followed a couple of incidents that saw him flashing a gun on Instagram Live. He was suspended following the second offense. “Morant wielded the firearm while knowing that he was being recorded and that the recording was being live streamed on Instagram Live, despite having made commitments to the NBA and public statements that he would not repeat the conduct for which he was previously disciplined,” the NBA said of his suspension.

Many have chimed into the controversy, with some claiming that the incidents were simple mistakes. Many have also claimed that his behavior could have been influenced by those he was choosing to spend time with. Now, his own father is weighing in, and it appears as though he thinks it’s his son’s own cross to bear. He spoke on the situation at the Up Next Elite Camp in New Orleans, warning other young athletes. He advised them to be careful of the decisions they make, as they can make a lasting impact.

Tee Morant Warns Young Athletes To Be Mindful Of Their Decisions

“Make sure anytime y’all anywhere, know the capabilities of everybody around you,” Tee Morant explained. He continued, describing how he feels as though Ja’s mistakes were his, and his alone. “My son didn’t get in trouble for the people around him, he got in trouble for his decisions so, always be mindful of every decision y’all [are making]. Because, it could pretty much, take over you and can consume you and make you think that you’re who you’re not.”

“Any time y’all are anywhere,” he continued, “just think everything is looking at you, everything is magnified.” “The smallest thing you can do can make the biggest difference in your life,” he also notes. Ja Morant will become eligible to return to the NBA in December, after losing a third of the season and over $7.5 million.

Ja Morant Pays Tribute To Kobe Bryant With Massive Back Tattoo

Ja Morant is finally making headlines for something other than Instagram Live drama or fighting teenagers. The Memphis Grizzlies star linked up with @inkednba to showcase his new tattoos. Morant’s latest is a full-back tattoo showcasing various chapters of his life. This includes images representing all the teams he’s played for (Crestwood High School, Murray State University, the Grizzlies). However, there is also a prominent tribute to Kobe Bryant.

Taking pride of place on Morant’s lower back are two images in memory of the late Lakers legend. One is a large replication of the iconic Mamba logo. The other is a large 24 with the word “mentality” written over it. Other new additions to Morant’s ink include several gambling motifs, such as dice and cards, along with the phrase “life’s a gamble”. The series of images shared by @inkednba also include Morant gifting the artist behind the designs, Andreas Ortega, with one of his jerseys.

Of course, this isn’t the first link to Kobe for Morant. In April 2022, Shaq said that Morant reminded him of his former teammate. “He has the ‘it’ factor. He knows he’s the best guy on the court,” the legendary big man said. “I made this statement a couple of months ago that he reminds me of Kobe — and he does.” However, it was not a comparison that Morant necessarily wanted to endorse. “ I appreciate the love from OG, but I ain’t Bean,” Morant said when asked about the comparison. “There will never be another Kobe.”

However, new tattoos or not, Morant will begin the season on the bench as he serves his 25-game suspension for flashing a gun on Instagram Live. He will rejoin a Grizzlies team that didn’t do a whole lot in the offseason as they look to continue their Western Conference rise. The Grizzlies added Derrick Rose in free agency, while also looking to minimize the drama by shipping Dillon Brooks to Houston. Meanwhile, the team acquired Marcus Smart, Josh Christopher, and Isaiah Todd via trades.

Ja Morant Claims Self-Defense In 2022 Fight Lawsuit

Before Ja Morant was the guy who couldn’t stop waving a gun on Instagram Live, Ja Morant was the guy allegedly beating up minors.

However, the suits now hinge on a legal maneuver from Morant’s team that has been described as a “Hail Mary”.

Morant Invokes Stand Your Ground Law

Per new court filings, Morant’s team is arguing that Morant has immunity under Tennessee’s Stand Your Ground law.

Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney has ruled that attorneys from all sides, including the Tennessee Attorney General, may present arguments in the Stand Your Ground defense. While Morant and Holloway’s team will argue for and against it, the state AG will determine whether the law is actually applicable. Holloway’s attorney, Rebecca Adelman, called the move the “Hail Mary of Hail Marys.” Furthermore, Pack was arrested earlier this week on a misdemeanor assault charge linked to the incident. However, Judge Chumney scheduled an October 12 hearing for the arguments, meaning the story is on hold for the moment.

SOURCE SPORTS: Warrant Issued for Davonte Pack, Friend of Ja Morant, Over Pick-Up Game Beatdown

Ja Morant Unfollows Friend Who Put Him on IG Live

Davonte Pack, the friend of Ja Morant, is the subject of an arrest warrant out of Shelby County, Tennessee. According to CBS Sports, the warrant is over a fight at Morant’s home involving a teenager.

The teenager, Joshua Holloway, who is now 18, has been accused of beating Pack and Morant after a basketball game.

“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the arrest of Davonte Pack, who has been charged with simple assault in relation to the July 2022 altercation involving Mr. Pack, Memphis Grizzlies basketball player Ja Morant, and a juvenile basketball player at Mr. Morant’s residence in Eads,” the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office said in an a statement. “The SCSO consulted with the SCDAG before obtaining the warrant.”

In June, according to The Blast, Morant unfollowed his childhood friend on Instagram after the second Instagram Live gun flash.

The childhood friend is Davonte Pack, the person on IG live who caught Mroant with a gun in the background. Pack would attempt to drop the camera and hide when Morant flashed the weapon.

In addition to unfollowing Pack, Morant also no longer follows the MBNO clothing brand. MBNO was owned by Pack and stands for My Brothers, No Others.

Ja Morant Responds To Isaiah Thomas’ Next Year Comments

Isaiah Thomas offered his two cents on the Ja Morant situation, with the young NBA star dealing with flashing guns on his Instagram Live multiple times. Thomas threw this out on his Twitter: “Watch what type of season Ja has next year with D Rose connected to his hip all year long.” He’s referring to Derrick Rose, a veteran NBA player who was the youngest season MVP winner of all time back in 2011. “Once he gets off suspension, he will have his best season yet,” Thomas continues.

Ja Morant is serving a 25-game suspension, handed down by Adam Silver, for violation of the league’s policy around guns and gun violence. He plays for the NBA franchise Memphis Grizzlies, which suspended Ja for a few games last year for his first incident. He allegedly went to therapy during that suspension and claimed to be feeling better. However, a second Instagram Live in which he flashed a piece made people not so sure. (He has since proved that the second incident was a fake gun.)

Isaiah Thomas finishes his Ja comments with, “That D rose presence going to have him on some MVP sh*t… Watch!” To which Ja Morant replied: “[You] too loud, OG. [They] gon feel me fasho.” He seems to agree with Isaiah that he is putting the off-the-court issues behind him and getting focused on basketball. The Memphis Grizzles signed Derrick Rose, announcing the signing on July 3rd. Deal terms were not disclosed to the public, per team policy. Ideally, Rose will help guide the young guard through a more successful era of his career.

Ja Morant is one of the most talented players in today’s NBA. Drafted number two overall in 2019, the point guard was the Rookie of the Year in 2020. That year’s rookie class might go down as one of the most talented in quite some time. Zion Williamson went number one overall, but injuries have derailed his career so far. Other than that, RJ Barrett, De’Andre Hunter, and Darius Garland round out the top five. They all play pivotal roles on playoff-caliber teams.
