Ja Morant Leads Memphis Grizzlies to Fourth Consecutive Victory

Ja Morant got the Memphis Grizzlies rolling.

The Memphis Grizzlies, initially struggling with a 6-19 record without Ja Morant, are now on a remarkable 4-0 winning streak since the Western Conference Player of the Week’s return. In a thrilling comeback against New Orleans, Morant’s game-high 31 points, including five crucial points in overtime, secured the Grizzlies’ fourth straight victory.

Desmond Bane contributed significantly with 27 points and five 3-pointers, while Jaren Jackson Jr. recorded a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. Marcus Smart, returning from a five-week foot injury hiatus, showcased his defensive prowess.

Despite the recent success, the Grizzlies, standing at 10-19, face challenges ahead with matchups against the defending champion Nuggets and the red-hot Clippers on consecutive road nights. Morant’s return has significantly impacted the team’s performance, with the Grizzlies boasting an 8-8 record on the road, a stark contrast to their 2-11 record at home this season. Morant’s impressive stats include averaging 28.8 points, 8.5 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in his first four games back.

GloRilla & Moneybagg Yo Attend Ja Morant’s Memphis Homecoming

GloRilla and Moneybagg Yo were two of the famous faces in attendance for the Grizzlies’ December 21 game. The matchup against the Pacers also marked Ja Morant’s first game back on his home court since his 25-game suspension ended. Moneybagg was seen linking up with Morant after the game while Glo got very vocal from her courtside seats.

Morant had 20 points in the 13-point win, meaning that the Grizzlies are now 2-0 since Morant returned. However, the Grizzlies’ dismal start to the season means that the 2-0 run has only elevated the team to 8-19 on the season. However, Morant was arguably not the star of the show. Desmond Bane had a team-high 31 points. The Grizzlies are next in action against the Hawks on Saturday.

Lil Wayne Taps Ja Morant To Be The Next “Face Of The NBA”

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne said he wants Ja Morant to be the face of the NBA following the retirement of LeBron James. “To me I think the obvious answer is Ja,” Wayne said in the video below. “Because the NBA is entertainment. What I mean by that is there was always a Michael Jordan, just like, you know like God. You gonna watch these Atlanta Hawk games just to see what Dominique, just to see if he gonna get ’em one off. I’m going to watch these Portland games to see if Clyde gonna get him one. Ja’s teams are actually competitive when he’s there and he’s doing his thing,” Wayne told Bleacher Report‘s Taylor Rooks.

However, it’s not the first time that Wayne had spoken in support of Morant. “Do y’all know that boy? ‘Cause I don’t. I know him from dunking and jumping, and I only started knowing him when I started paying attention to him around his last year of college. He come from like a town with 3,000 people. Like, what? What y’all expect? Y’all gave him $200 million,” Wayne told the All The Smoke podcast while defending Morant’s actions earlier this year.

Ja Morant’s Spectacular Return Sparks Surge in Memphis Grizzlies Ticket Prices

Ja Morant Drops 34, Hits Game Winner in NBA Season Debut

NBA fans are witnessing the impact of Ja Morant’s sensational return to the court as ticket prices for his first home game skyrocket.

Before Morant’s season debut, Grizzlies tickets were among the least sought-after in the league, often starting at just $5. However, following his remarkable performance and game-winning shot on Tuesday, ticket prices for tonight’s game against the Pelicans have surged by a staggering 340%, according to TickPick.

Earlier this week, tickets were priced at a modest $10, but after Morant’s comeback, they have reached $44. The sudden spike reflects the excitement and demand generated by Morant’s return, underscoring his influence on the team’s appeal and fan interest.

After a 25-game suspension, Ja Morant returned to the court, showcasing his electrifying skills as he led the Memphis Grizzlies to a remarkable comeback against the New Orleans Pelicans. Morant’s outstanding performance included 3a4 points, six rebounds, and eight assists, with the game-winning shot at the buzzer. The Grizzlies, down by 24 points, orchestrated an impressive turnaround, outscoring the Pelicans 79-53 in the final 24:40 of the game.

“Call 12… That’s the play I wanted to run right there,” Morant said. “They believe in me. I actually wanted to go to Trip (JJJ) in the post. They told me ‘no.’ So I had to deliver for them.”

The night’s highlight came as Morant faced against the Pelicans’ formidable defender, Herb Jones. With the clock ticking down, Morant executed a dazzling spin move and a perfectly timed shot that found the basket, sealing the comeback victory for Memphis. The arena erupted in celebration as Morant’s stellar display affirmed his status as one of the league’s most dynamic and impactful players.

Ja Morant’s Immunity In Assault Trial To Be Decided Next Year

A ruling as to whether Ja Morant is eligible for immunity under Tennessee’s self-defense laws is not expected any time soon, the presiding judge has warned. “Everybody was hoping for a big decision, or finality, or something like that. These are important legal issues.” Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney told The Commercial Appeal. According to Judge Chumney, she needs more time with the case due to the lack of precedent. While Tennessee has stringent self-defense laws, they have never been applied to a civil case like the one Morant is facing.

Morant has been sued by Joshua Holloway, who claims that Morant assaulted him when Holloway attended a pick-up game at Morant’s home. Morant has countered that he was defending himself as Holloway hit him in the face with a basketball. Furthermore, Morant’s lawyers have argued that this qualifies Morant for immunity from prosecution under state law. The ongoing trial has played out in the background as Morant made his return to the NBA this week.

Ja Morant Reflects On Suspension, Shines In Return

Morant made his 2023/24 debut earlier this week, helping seal a win for the adrift Grizzlies. Prior to the game, he had reflected on the 25-game suspension he received for flashing a gun on Instagram. Amid some wider comments, Morant said there had been some “horrible days”. However, Morant accepted that simply returning to the Grizzlies wasn’t going to be enough for a lot of people. “I can’t, you know, make nobody believe me outside of my actions. So me answering this question with just words probably won’t mean nothing to nobody,” Morant told reporters.

Morant scored 34 points in his season debut as the Grizzlies improved to 7-19 and snapped a five-game losing streak. “I feel like it was the perfect ending, perfect day,” Morant said of his game-winning buzzer-beater that sealed a massive, 24-point comeback from the Grizzlies. After the game, Morant signed his jersey and gifted it to LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was sat courtside. Daniels was recently named the 2023 Heisman Winner for his monumental season leading the Tigers. However, Daniels will not play in LSU’s ReliaQuest Bowl game against Wisconsin on New Year’s Day. Instead, Daniels will skip the game to focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.

LeBron James Demands Ja Morant To “Go Be GREAT Again,” He Responds By Dropping 34 And Hitting Game Winner

Ja Morant might have cost his team a chance of making some actual noise in the postseason. Of course, it is due to his 25-game suspension he was handed down for multiple gun-flashing incidents on social media. Without him, they have severely struggled. Until last night, the Memphis Grizzlies were 6-19, good enough for 13th in the Western Conference. If they want a shot to make some sort of postseason play, they certainly have their work cut out for them. If they want to shoot for the 10th seed, the last Play-In spot, Memphis needs to get past Phoenix, and maybe Golden State.

Right now, Ja’s team is 6.5 games out of that spot, even after the Murray State product’s heroics. He made his return to the hardwood last night on the road against the New Orleans Pelicans. It was a sold-out crowd and they certainly got their money’s worth. It went down to the wire and with the game tied, Ja had the ball in his hands. He got into the lane and had the perfect touch on a floater. It bounced off the rim and dropped to seal the deal.

LeBron Roots For Ja Morant

But it was not just the game-winner that was impressive. Ja went off for 34 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. While he certainly had a lot to prove to himself, the fans, his teammates, and the league, he had someone in his corner. Before and throughout the game, LeBron James was pulling for him the entire way, according to Vlad TV. The tweet above is just one of a handful that he sent out. The last one he shared was the chef emoji and number emojis that wrote out 12.

What are your initial thoughts on LeBron James rooting for Ja Morant? Do you think he is pulling a LeGM to secretly recruit him to the Lakers? Was he wrong to support him, especially after the gun flashing? With Number 12 back, do the Grizzlies have a chance to sneak into the Play-In Tournament? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Ja Morant Gets Life Advice From Benny The Butcher

Benny the Butcher has offered up some life advice for Ja Morant as he prepares to return from his 25-game suspension. “I feel bad for him. Honestly, because coming from those type of environments, those types of environments have a very strong hold on us. So when we tend to make it out — making it into this business, I don’t have any friends in this business. All my friends is back in the streets. I made new friends. Sometimes they have a hold on us and certain expectations and peer pressure. They expect us to act one way, even though we made it. Everybody didn’t make it. That’s why my new album is called Everybody Can’t Go, because that’s one of my things: I want to let my boys know I’m not trying to be a tough guy with ya’ll no more. How ya’ll feel about me, I don’t care,” Benny began.

However, he wasn’t finished. “If you feel like I switched, I changed, I’m not the same no more — you’re right. So as [Ja] gets older he’s gonna realize that I don’t have to feel that survivor’s remorse. He want to keep guys around him that maybe he know that shouldn’t be around him. He don’t want to voice his opinion. It’s hard. I’m 39 years old and some of these things, I just learned them — how to separate my toxic friends from my career because they will bring me down. You gotta be vocal about that,” he continued.

Ja Morant Reflects On Suspension

Meanwhile, Morant recently reflected on the experience of his suspension. Morant said there had been some “horrible days”. However, Morant accepted that simply returning to the Grizzlies wasn’t going to be enough for a lot of people. “I can’t, you know, make nobody believe me outside of my actions. So me answering this question with just words probably won’t mean nothing to nobody,” Morant told reporters on Friday.

Morant is expected to return next Tuesday against the Pelicans. However, Morant returns to a Grizzlies team in dire straits. Last year’s Western Conference second seed is 6-17 and on a three-game losing streak. Their last win was against the even more hapless Detroit Pistons on December 6. Whether Morant can help engineer a turnaround remains to be seen.

Ja Morant Reflects On 25-Game Suspension

Ja Morant has reflected on his 25-game suspension for brandishing a firearm on livestreams on multiple occasions earlier this year. Ja Morant Testifies To Self-Defense In Assault Case

However, Morant’s gun-flashing suspension is not the only legal trouble that Morant is in. Morant is facing a lawsuit over assaulting a 17-year-old boy at his home last year. While testifying in court earlier this week, Morant did not deny hitting the boy. However, Morant argued that he hit him in “self-defense” after the boy threw a basketball at his face. Despite this, the prosecution is pushing hard to punish Morant. “We’re in this court. We’re not on a basketball court. In this court, we’re all equal. Nobody’s above the law.” an attorney for the prosecution said during opening arguments. This remains a developing story and we’ll have any updates as and when they emerge.

Morant’s fall from grace has also been pinned on his father, Tee. “Tee has been a major driving force in all of this. He never made the NBA, but this was his chance to live like he’s an NBA superstar. That’s been a problem from the beginning,” an anonymous source told ESPN while discussing what had driven Morant into such a compromising position.

Ja Morant Shows How To Check A Ball During Court Appearance: Watch

Ja Morant is currently being sued by Joshua Holloway, according to TMZ. Overall, this stems from an alleged incident that took place at Morant’s home. Essentially, Morant was playing pick-up basketball with Holloway when things turned violent. Holloway claims Morant assaulted him and was unrelenting. However, Morant has maintained the entire time that he was simply trying to protect himself and act in self-defense. This was all reported on in the midst of Morant’s troubles with guns and NBA suspensions.

Subsequently, Morant is now in court as a result of this lawsuit. The court proceedings began on Monday, and Morant was there to tell his side of the story. As he explains, Holloway checked a ball extremely hard, right into his face. This hurt the NBA star and he immediately responded by saying “what you on.” From there, Morant alleges that Holloway lifted up his shorts in a menacing fashion. Morant described this as a “fighting stance” and was adamant that he was being threatened. When Holloway approached him, Morant physically struck him.

Ja Morant Gives A Demonstration

Perhaps the most interesting moment in court was when Morant was asked to pick up a basketball and demonstrate what a check looks like. That is when Morant faced an attorney and showcased how to do the move properly. This was all done as a way to showcase that Holloway may have been acting in a reckless manner. Some on social media felt like this was all pretty ridiculous and just a bit mesmerizing, at the same time. After all, Morant is still serving a suspension, and some feel like he is being hit with way too many punishments, this included.

With all of this being said, let us know what you think of the Morant situation, in the comments section below. Was the NBA being too hard on him?
