Ja Morant Provides Recovery Update

Ja Morant posted an inspiring message to his fans as he continues to recover from season-ending shoulder surgery. “What you went thru has a purpose. So does your life. Focus on your life’s purpose and you will get thru this trying time,” Morant wrote alongside a picture of him giving a peace sign in a hospital bed. Moran’t surgery was reportedly successful and he can begin his recovery.

Morant was ruled out of the rest of the 2023/24 season after playing just nine games following a 25-game suspension. The team had gone 6-3, matching their win total in the 25 games they played without Morant. Morant’s injury only deepens the issues for the Grizzlies. At the start of the season, the team lost Steven Adams to season-ending surgery.

Ja Morant Tells Grizzlies To “Keep Grinding”

Meanwhile, Morant told the team to “stay locked in and keep grinding” despite his injury. Morant’s words inspired the team to earn a gutsy win over the Mavericks in Morant’s first game on the sidelines. Morant was in attendance, watching from behind Memphis’ bench with his arm in a sling. However, Morant is expected to be ready to play at the start of the 2024/25 season. At the time of writing, the Grizzlies are 14-23 and are 13th in the Western Conference.

“Ja’s always going to be positive. He’s one of our brothers, and we love him to death. He’s a big part of this thing, whether he’s playing or not,” Desmond Bane told ESPN after the win over Dallas. “Everyone just feels for Ja. I mean, they know how much work he’s been putting in this season, obviously what he’s done since he’s come back just within the last couple of weeks. But these guys really care for each other and they really care for Ja, and obviously they know how much he cares for them and how he showed so much support even when he was out the first 25 games,” head coach Taylor Jenkins said.

Ja Morant Seemingly Hits Gun Celebration During Grizzlies Win

Ja Morant has once again created controversy after he seemingly pulled a gun celebration against the Pelicans. After dropping a dunk, Morant appeared to fire off two imaginary guns before running back down the court. Of course, this caused a lot of outrage given that Morant is just four games into a season cut short by a gun-related suspension. However, the Grizzlies appeared to be a fan of the move, sharing the clip to the team’s official X account.

The win over the Pelicans marked the Grizzlies’ fourth consecutive win, meaning the team is 4-0 since Morant returned to the team. Morant had a game-high 31 points along with 7 assists. However, Morant was also tied for a game-high 6 turnovers with the Pelicans’ Zion Williamson.

Lil Wayne Taps Ja Morant To Be The Next “Face Of The NBA”

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne recently said he wants Morant to be the face of the NBA following the retirement of LeBron James. “To me I think the obvious answer is Ja,” Wayne said in the video below. “Because the NBA is entertainment. What I mean by that is there was always a Michael Jordan, just like, you know like God. You gonna watch these Atlanta Hawk games just to see what Dominique, just to see if he gonna get ’em one off. I’m going to watch these Portland games to see if Clyde gonna get him one. Ja’s teams are actually competitive when he’s there and he’s doing his thing,” Wayne told Bleacher Report‘s Taylor Rooks.

It’s not the first time that Wayne has spoken in support of Morant. “Do y’all know that boy? ‘Cause I don’t. I know him from dunking and jumping, and I only started knowing him when I started paying attention to him around his last year of college. He come from like a town with 3,000 people. Like, what? What y’all expect? Y’all gave him $200 million,” Wayne told the All The Smoke podcast while defending Morant’s actions earlier this year.

GloRilla & Moneybagg Yo Attend Ja Morant’s Memphis Homecoming

GloRilla and Moneybagg Yo were two of the famous faces in attendance for the Grizzlies’ December 21 game. The matchup against the Pacers also marked Ja Morant’s first game back on his home court since his 25-game suspension ended. Moneybagg was seen linking up with Morant after the game while Glo got very vocal from her courtside seats.

Morant had 20 points in the 13-point win, meaning that the Grizzlies are now 2-0 since Morant returned. However, the Grizzlies’ dismal start to the season means that the 2-0 run has only elevated the team to 8-19 on the season. However, Morant was arguably not the star of the show. Desmond Bane had a team-high 31 points. The Grizzlies are next in action against the Hawks on Saturday.

Ja Morant’s Spectacular Return Sparks Surge in Memphis Grizzlies Ticket Prices

Ja Morant Drops 34, Hits Game Winner in NBA Season Debut

NBA fans are witnessing the impact of Ja Morant’s sensational return to the court as ticket prices for his first home game skyrocket.

Before Morant’s season debut, Grizzlies tickets were among the least sought-after in the league, often starting at just $5. However, following his remarkable performance and game-winning shot on Tuesday, ticket prices for tonight’s game against the Pelicans have surged by a staggering 340%, according to TickPick.

Earlier this week, tickets were priced at a modest $10, but after Morant’s comeback, they have reached $44. The sudden spike reflects the excitement and demand generated by Morant’s return, underscoring his influence on the team’s appeal and fan interest.

After a 25-game suspension, Ja Morant returned to the court, showcasing his electrifying skills as he led the Memphis Grizzlies to a remarkable comeback against the New Orleans Pelicans. Morant’s outstanding performance included 3a4 points, six rebounds, and eight assists, with the game-winning shot at the buzzer. The Grizzlies, down by 24 points, orchestrated an impressive turnaround, outscoring the Pelicans 79-53 in the final 24:40 of the game.

“Call 12… That’s the play I wanted to run right there,” Morant said. “They believe in me. I actually wanted to go to Trip (JJJ) in the post. They told me ‘no.’ So I had to deliver for them.”

The night’s highlight came as Morant faced against the Pelicans’ formidable defender, Herb Jones. With the clock ticking down, Morant executed a dazzling spin move and a perfectly timed shot that found the basket, sealing the comeback victory for Memphis. The arena erupted in celebration as Morant’s stellar display affirmed his status as one of the league’s most dynamic and impactful players.

Ja Morant’s Immunity In Assault Trial To Be Decided Next Year

A ruling as to whether Ja Morant is eligible for immunity under Tennessee’s self-defense laws is not expected any time soon, the presiding judge has warned. “Everybody was hoping for a big decision, or finality, or something like that. These are important legal issues.” Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Carol Chumney told The Commercial Appeal. According to Judge Chumney, she needs more time with the case due to the lack of precedent. While Tennessee has stringent self-defense laws, they have never been applied to a civil case like the one Morant is facing.

Morant has been sued by Joshua Holloway, who claims that Morant assaulted him when Holloway attended a pick-up game at Morant’s home. Morant has countered that he was defending himself as Holloway hit him in the face with a basketball. Furthermore, Morant’s lawyers have argued that this qualifies Morant for immunity from prosecution under state law. The ongoing trial has played out in the background as Morant made his return to the NBA this week.

Ja Morant Reflects On Suspension, Shines In Return

Morant made his 2023/24 debut earlier this week, helping seal a win for the adrift Grizzlies. Prior to the game, he had reflected on the 25-game suspension he received for flashing a gun on Instagram. Amid some wider comments, Morant said there had been some “horrible days”. However, Morant accepted that simply returning to the Grizzlies wasn’t going to be enough for a lot of people. “I can’t, you know, make nobody believe me outside of my actions. So me answering this question with just words probably won’t mean nothing to nobody,” Morant told reporters.

Morant scored 34 points in his season debut as the Grizzlies improved to 7-19 and snapped a five-game losing streak. “I feel like it was the perfect ending, perfect day,” Morant said of his game-winning buzzer-beater that sealed a massive, 24-point comeback from the Grizzlies. After the game, Morant signed his jersey and gifted it to LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was sat courtside. Daniels was recently named the 2023 Heisman Winner for his monumental season leading the Tigers. However, Daniels will not play in LSU’s ReliaQuest Bowl game against Wisconsin on New Year’s Day. Instead, Daniels will skip the game to focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.
