J Cole Dubbed A “Hypocrite” Online After Calling Kendrick Lamar “Boring”

This morning, J Cole surprised the music world with a new album called Might Delete Later. Overall, no one expected a new project from Cole. Instead, they thought Drake might be coming through with a response to Kendrick Lamar. Instead, it was Cole who decided to bite first. In this new album, he takes shots at Kendrick throughout. However, it is the final song, “7 Minute Drill,” that contains the strongest diss towards Lamar. It is here where he dubs albums like To Pimp A Butterfly as boring while claiming that Mr. Morale is a tragedy.

Unfortunately for J. Cole, it doesn’t seem like his approach is working right now. While there are certainly some people who like the diss track, there are others who believe this is a bad case of someone not being particularly self-aware. Albums like 4 Your Eyes Only and K.O.D. have been panned in the past for being boring albums. Furthermore, To Pimp A Butterfly is one of the most critically acclaimed projects of all-time, with songs that bring a ton of energy to the table.

Others simply posted memes of themselves sleeping to Cole albums. Needless to say, the diss didn’t hit the way Cole probably hoped it would. Now, all eyes are on Kendrick as it remains uncertain whether or not he will respond.

Cole is the first to respond to the mighty Kendrick Lamar since his viral verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.” Even better, this diss track appears on J. Cole’s surprise new album Might Delete Later. After a series of now-deleted vlogs of the same name, the Frankfurt, Germany-born MC is giving us an extra treat before The Fall Off.

Treat does not even begin to describe how massive a moment this is for hip-hop, as Cole did not hold back one bit. “7 Minute Drill” is not actually that long but is instead a possible reference to lyrical exercises the Dreamville rapper put himself through to continue to improve. According to Genius, these were brought up in The Off-Season documentary. Cole was certainly locked in for “7 Minute Drill” because there are bars o’ plenty.

This is genius marketing from one of the biggest rappers in the world, as what used to be a series of vlogs that teased new music, is now a full album’s worth of material. In fact, the volumes lived up to their name, being deleted from all of Cole’s social media platforms. With Might Delete Later now out, fans might want to know some of the production credits or features.

Well, we got you with all of those details right here. For J. Cole’s ninth project, he is back working alongside some familiar faces. The legendary T-Minus has his talented hands all over this album. J Cole Called Out For Transphobic Bars On “Might Delete Later” Track “Pi”

J Cole is easily one of the biggest artists in the entire rap game. Overall, he is someone who is constantly evolving, and dropping big projects. However, a few weeks ago, Kendrick Lamar came after him a bit. This was done on the song “Like That,” with Future and Metro Boomin. Fans have been waiting for Drake’s response, although it has yet to arrive. On Friday, Cole was the one to bite first, as he dropped off a 12-song album called Might Delete Later.

On this track, there is a very clear-cut diss at Kendrick on the final song, “7 Minute Drill.” That said, there are some other songs that people are dissecting right now. Not all of these dissections are positive, however. On the track “Pi” with Daylyt and Ab-Soul, Cole has some questionable bars that can be interpreted as casual transphobia. “Is you a demon or is that demeanor for the ‘Gram? Tell us/They plead the fifth, I’m seeing hints of a trans fella/In cancel culture’s vicinity, he’s no killer, trust me/Beneath his chosen identity, there is still a pussy, period,” Cole raps.

In the tweets below, you can see that many took exception to these lyrics. Numerous artists have had transphobic lyrics in the past, but when it comes to Cole, some figured he would be above that. That said, there is no telling what his true intentions were. Some of the interpretations will be charitable, and others won’t be. Only time will tell whether or not Cole is going to try and clear things up before things continue to spiral.
