Drake Responds To AI Cover Of Ice Spice’s “Munch”: “This The Final Straw”

As record labels and streaming services team up to combat AI, there’s a polarizing reaction from artists and fans alike. Artists like Drake, Kanye West, Rihanna, and many others have had their voices sampled to processed through AI generators. We can’t lie, these Kanye AI covers are refreshing. However, it still breeds concerns surrounding the future of music. Industry experts, artists, and executives expressed the need to address the issues surrounding ethics. Meanwhile, it also spurs questions surrounding how musicians will further generate revenue when technology can seemingly replace them within seconds. Some might embrace the future of technology but others feel like this could lead to the worse.

Of course, the most popular artists have become the easiest to duplicate. One guy went viral for using AI to create his own Kendrick Lamar song. Another person uploaded AI covers of Rihanna performing renditions of songs from Maroon 5 and Beyoncé. However, a recently viral cover of an AI Drake performing Ice Spice’s “Munch” got the internet in a chokehold. Fans have been stunned by the uncanny resemblance to his voice and the uber-sassy bars coming from Drizzy.

Drake Reacts To AI “Munch”

Universal Music, who reportedly inked Drake to a “Lebron-sized deal,” recently put in a request to streaming services to prevent AI-generated covers from landing on their platforms. This later caught the attention of Drake, who finally responded to the cover of Ice Spice’s “Munch.” Drizzy appears to be baffled by the whole thing, writing, “This the final straw AI.” He clearly isn’t amused by hearing his own voice calling another man a munch, even if he was an early supporter of the Bronx Baddie’s breakout record.

The Financial Times first reported Universal Music’s request to Spotify and Apple to prevent AI covers from emerging on DSPs. Universal said they have a “moral and commercial responsibility to our artists.” With the proliferation of AI, they said they have to stop DSPs from “ingesting content that violates the rights of artists and other creators.” “We expect our platform partners will want to prevent their services from being used in ways that harm artists,” their rep added. Check out Drake’s response to the AI cover of Ice Spice’s “Munch” above.

Drake Blamed For Recent Toronto Raptors Loss

The Toronto Raptors were eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday night. The loss was heartbreaking as the team couldn’t find a rhythm from the free throw line. However, could there be other reasons to blame for the poor performance by the Raptors? For one radio curse, a certain curse could have returned involving a celebrity Raptors fan. The fan in question is one of the biggest musicians of his era. Has the Drake sports curse hit the Raptors franchise again?

On Thursday’s edition of the D.A. Show, Pat Boyle seems to think Drake could be to blame for the loss in Toronto. Boyle believed the Toronto superfans’ presence at the game could have canceled out DeMar DeRozan’s daughter shrieking. DeRozan’s daughter could be heard letting out a loud screech during each trip to the free-throw line. Her vocal performance immediately made Diar DeRozan a viral sensation. Whereas a Toronto superfan was nowhere in site“If you don’t have Drake, and if that doesn’t work, the niceties of offering her things to make her stop shrieking, you get physical. You get her out,” Boyle said.

Radio Host Calls For Drake’s Toronto Raptors Fan Card

Generally, it has been a long-running joke that whatever side Drake chooses in an athletic endeavor will eventually lose. One of Drake’s most notable fandoms is his passion for the University of Kentucky’s college basketball team. Drake joined the team during the pre-season of one of their more memorable seasons. The Wildcats were on the verge of becoming history in 2015. Until the team lost their first game of the season in the Final Four. Drake was a huge supporter of the 38-1 Wildcats. Undeniably there is evidence behind the mythical curse.

The Toronto Raptors are now preparing for the off-season. Undoubtedly the potential Drake curse wasn’t the only pain last night. But Patrick Beverley also threw salt into the wounds after the game. The Bulls star was heard telling the Raptors GM that his team was trash. It hasn’t been an ideal 24 hours for the city of Toronto. However, the Raptors are not far removed from their own championship run. A moment the city of Toronto or Drake will never forget. Denzel Washington Remembers Not Remembering Meeting Drake When The Rapper Was Just A Young Boy In Toronto

Drake is one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers now, but once upon a time, he was just another kid growing up in Toronto. During that time, though, Drake met a global star in Denzel Washington, who recently spoke about the encounter in a new interview with Good Morning America.

Towards the end of the segment, Washington told the story:

“You just never know who you touch. I met a kid in Toronto who came up and was fascinated because I was like this star, and he wanted to talk to me, and he couldn’t believe that he met me. Well, 10 or 15 years later, he came up and he said, ‘You don’t remember when you met me.’ I said, ‘No.’ His name is Drake. And he said what I said to him, he never forgot.”

Washington was on the show to discuss the Boys & Girls Clubs opening its 5,000th location, since he’s a spokesperson for the organization who benefited from it as a child. He explained, “I was that 6-year-old kid that was nervous. What am I now? I’m still that 6-year-old, wide-eyed kid who’s curious about life. I was being taught about grace, about winning with grace and losing with grace, and being a leader and all of these things.”

Denzel Washington Speaks About Meeting A Young Drake

Denzel Washington and Drake have an interesting history. It primarily revolves around a tattoo the rapper got of the actor in 2017. The tattoo was a Denzel deep cut, referencing the Spike Lee-directed Mo’ Better Blues. However, despite a bemused reaction from Denzel, nothing really came of the viral moment.

But what if there was another connection between the two celebrities? In this case, one that dated all the way back to Drake’s childhood in Toronto? A recent interview with Denzel appears to point to that being the case.

Denzel Recalls Meeting Drake As A Child

Appearing on Good Morning America, Denzel recalled a story from the early 90s with a surprise celebrity cameo. “I met a kid in Toronto, who came up and was fascinated with me because I was like this star and he wanted to talk to me and he couldn’t believe that he met me. Well, 10 or 15 years later, he came up and he said “you don’t remember when you met me” I said no. His name is Drake.” The meeting came at a Boys and Girls Club in Toronto. Denzel has been a spokesperson for the charity for over 30 years and was on GMA to celebrate the opening of the 5000th Boys and Girls Club. Prior to his appearance on GMA, he delivered a keynote speech at the newest location. The Boys and Girls Club seeks to provide safe community spaces and opportunities for young people.

But Denzel, who was speaking on never knowing whose life you might affect, had more to say about the rapper, “He said what I said to him and he never forgot.” Denzel didn’t share what he told Drake all those years ago but it’s clear that the meeting with and the advice that Denzel gave him as a child helped Drake become the man he is today. It’s a powerful and heartfelt story about the power that idols and role models can have. Denzel has seen the Boys and Girls Club add 3000 locations during his 30 years as spokesperson. The 5000th location was opened in Elgin, Illinois. With this new revelation, maybe Drake would be willing to share the advice Denzel gave him that inspired him so much.

Drake Surprises Crowd At Lil Wayne Show In Toronto

Lil Wayne recently embarked on his Welcome To Tha Carter Tour, and he has had plenty of surprise guests come along for the ride. The run of shows began on April 4 at The Fillmore in Minneapolis. They will continue throughout the entirety of April and into the middle of May. With 28 shows in all, Wayne isn’t taking a lot of time off between dates. Still, at least he has his friends to keep him company for some of the shows. At his show in Chicago, Wayne brought Chance The Rapper onstage to perform his song “No Problem.” That wasn’t all Wayne had in store, though.

At his Toronto show on April 12, fans were treated to a very rare sight. It turns out Wayne had invited a Toronto native to open for him. With very little commotion or production, Drake walked onto the stage and began performing. As soon as they recognized him, the rapper’s fellow Torontonians went absolutely wild. Phones came out by the hundreds to film the event. Fans jumped up and down in excitement. Seeing Drake this close-up is rare, especially as an opener.

Drake’s Message To Wayne

Drake and Wayne have a long and storied history together. After all, it was Wayne that signed Drake to Young Money back in 2009. It’s difficult to imagine there was a time when the rapper was just an actor in a teen drama. Now, more than a decade into his rap career, Drake is an icon in his own right. Much of that is thanks to Lil Wayne and Young Money, who also signed Nicki Minaj at the beginning of her career. Say what you will about Wayne. He’s responsible for some of the biggest artists of all time. That’s in addition to his own status as a legend in the industry.

Earlier this year, Drake spoke to Wayne via video message at the Recording Academy Honors. He had plenty of kind words to say and thanks to give. “Lil Wayne… I love you so much. I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family,” Drake said. “But I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same without your natural gift to just be yourself.” How would you react if you were at a Wayne concert and Drake came out? Let us know in the comments!

Drake Was Lil Wayne’s Surprise Opener At The Toronto Date Of The ‘Welcome To Tha Carter Tour’

Lil Wayne is not messing around on his Welcome To Tha Carter Tour. The highly anticipated run kicked off earlier this month in Minneapolis, and every night has been getting better and better. In Chicago on April 9, the rapper welcomed Chance The Rapper onto the stage to perform “No Problem” from his 2016 LP Coloring Book.

Tonight (April 12), Lil Wayne had a surprise opener for his show in Toronto. That happened to be the one and only Drake, who’s famously a native of the city. The crowd immediately lost their minds and grabbed their phones to capture the unbelievable moment. Watch some videos of the performance below.

Earlier this year, Drake attended the Recording Academy Honors Presented by the Black Music Collective at Hollywood Palladium and honored Lil Wayne with a video message: “Lil Wayne… I love you so much. I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same without your natural gift to just be yourself.”

Drake also brought out Lil Wayne during his co-headlining set at Dreamville Festival at the beginning of April.
