SOURCE LATINO: Fans Vote Bad Bunny’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ #1 on Billboard Poll

Bad Bunny’s new album topped Billboard’s weekly poll for favorite new music. Fans voted the Puerto Rican rapper’s Un Verano Sin Ti into the top slot with more than 48-percent of the vote.

It beat out Taylor Swift’s “This Love (Taylor’s Version),” and Jack Harlow’s “Come Home the Kids Miss You.”

Un Verano Sin Ti, released via via Rimas Entertainment on May 6, was co-produced by Tainy and MAG, alongside longtime engineer Beto “La Paciencia.”

So far, the 23-track project is the most-streamed album of 2022 on Spotify.

On April 28th, 2022 at 9:00 p.m. EST, GRAMMY Award-winning singer Burna Boy will live stream his sold-out “One Night In Space” event at New York’s famous Madison Square Garden, only on YouTube. Burna Boy has also stated that a unique limited line of merchandise would be available to commemorate the historic occasion since he will be the first Nigerian musician to ever headline the world-famous arena.

Attendees at Madison Square Garden as well as Livestream watchers will be able to purchase the NYC-themed goods. Burna’s explosive energy is mixed with the authentic spirit of New York City in the elements and themes of the compositions. Beginning at 6:00pm EST on Thursday, April 28th, the online pieces will be available through Burna Boy’s webstore. Shirts, hats, hoodies, crewnecks, and tote bags are among the limited-edition goods, with prices ranging from $25 to $100.

Burna Boy’s sold-out debut at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, electrifying performances at the 2021 Global Citizen Festival and The Governor’s Ball, as well as sold-out international shows at London’s O2 Arena, Paris’ Accor Arena, Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, and other venues around the world as part of his 2021 Space Drift tour, are among the highlights of his 2021 Space Drift tour.

Davido, an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer, has announced The We Rise By Lifting Others Tour, a limited run of Live Nation and Duke Concept-produced shows that will take place at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on June 16th, HISTORY in Toronto on June 17th, The House of Blues in Boston on June 18th, Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on June 23rd, and Youtube Theater in Los Angeles on June 25th.

[WATCH] Koffee Teams with VEVO for ‘LIFT’ Series Performances

Koffee’s third and final performance in her LIFT series, “Runaway,” from her new album Gifted, was posted today on Vevo, the world’s top music video network. In 2019, Koffee debuted on Vevo as a Vevo DSCVR artist, performing performances of “Toast” and “Raggamuffin.”

Vevo and Koffee worked closely together to use projection, light, and set design in a neutral yet elegant venue to draw inspiration from the images and aesthetics of the West Indies. The photograph, which was taken in a townhouse in Central London, was intended to depict Koffee’s energy and positivity while she was surrounded by her band and gospel choir. The films attempted to toy with the audience’s perception of space, demonstrating that the West Indies is more than just a geographical location, but also a vibe, feeling, and power that pervades its people’s spirits.

[WATCH] Colombian Drug Lord Escapes Prison Using Guard’s Uniform

An unbelievable prison escape was caught on camera as video shows a Colombian drug lord breaking out of La Picota Jail in Bogotá by simply walking out wearing a prison guard uniform and he is still on the lam.

Juan Castro aka “Matamba” was on the verge of being extradited to the U.S. when he came up with the brilliant plan of dressing up as a guard and walking out of the facility. His escape was so discreet, it wasn’t noticed that he was missing until the next day.

Since the escape, prison director Juan Gordillo and all 55 guards who were working at the time of the escape have been suspended. The prison guard suspected of giving Castro his uniform has been arrested.

Afro Nation and Billboard Partner for New US Afrobeats Chart

Billboard has launched the first-ever Afrobeats music chart in the United States, collaborating with Afro Nation, a music festival and global Afrobeats brand. The Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, which has 50 positions, ranks the country’s most popular Afrobeat songs using a weighted formula that includes official-only streams on subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, as well as download sales from top music retailers. On March 29th, the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart will be available on billboard.com.

“The last decade has seen Afrobeats explode into a worldwide phenomenon, influencing culture and fashion across the globe and I am humbled to have made a contribution to growing the genre alongside many talented, passionate people,” said Afro Nation founder, Co-Head of UTA London and founder of Event Horizon Obi Asika. “There is still so much more potential within the scene and the community that has grown around it and I believe it is vital that with Billboard we now have a US chart that reflects this growth and provides a platform for emerging artists from every continent to showcase their talent to new audiences.”

“Billboard is excited to collaborate with Afro Nation on the launch of the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart,” said Billboard’s SVP of Charts and Development, Silvio Pietroluongo. “As with much of the world, Afrobeats has grown tremendously as a genre in America and we are proud to showcase the top songs and artists with this new weekly ranking.”

Afro Nation is one of several significant drivers to the sound’s development in the United States, with singers like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido set to perform at their festival in Puerto Rico in 2022. This latest move follows Afro Nation’s relationship with the Official Charts Company in the UK, which released the Top 20 Afrobeats Chart in July 2020. Through the groundbreaking Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, they are extending their influence to Billboard.

EMPIRE Hosts “The New Africa” SXSW Showcase with Pandora

Leading indie label, distributor, and publisher EMPIRE staged their first showcase for night two of SXSW music, ‘The New Africa,’ at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q, only a month after launching EMPIRE Africa. BNXN FKA Buju, Cheque, Fireboy DML, June Freedom, L.A.X., Wande Coal, and other label artists and contemporary Afrobeats trailblazers performed at the sold-out event, which was hosted by Nigerian comedian and actor Basketmouth and DJ Poizon Ivy. Monster Energy and Puma were also sponsors of the event, in addition to Pandora.

Empire expanded in February, announcing EMPIRE Africa, highlighting the success of Nigerian artists like Freboy DML and Olamide. “Don’t forget the rate of streaming music in the States is not the rate of streaming music in Nigeria,” said Kareem Mobolaji, regional head of West Africa with EMPIRE, to Forbes. “If 10 people are streaming you in the U.S., that’s equivalent to having 60 people streaming you in Nigeria.”
