Jay has already condemned the attorney behind the lawsuit, Tony Buzbee, in a fiery public statement on Sunday night. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle,” his statement reads in part. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”

The ‘Inside The NBA’ Crew Joked About Getting Sued By Drake After Playing Kendrick Lamar At Halftime

Kendrick Lamar stunned everyone last week when he teased and then dropped his newest album, GNX. Two things happened very quickly: One, it began receiving widespread acclaim, and two, people started screaming “MUSTARD” as loud as they could immediately after they heard “TV Off” for the first time. Lamar screams it on the track as a way to shout out collaborator DJ Mustard, and because the internet just does this sometimes, it got turned into a meme.

Because it was a thing people were making jokes about, it seemed a foregone conclusion that it would pop up on Inside the NBA sooner rather than later. And during halftime of Tuesday night’s NBA Cup game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, “TV Off” came over the speakers, which led to a very good riff from the fellas and special guest panelist Jalen Rose.

Shaq decided to scream “MUSTAAAAAARD” a few times and crack a joke or two, while Rose slid in a spectacular line that we assume Drake won’t love.

“I don’t know if y’all should be playing that Kendrick,” Rose told the desk. “You don’t wanna get a lawsuit up in here.”

“Lawsuits don’t scare us around here,” Ernie Johnson quickly responded.

Rose, of course, is referencing the multiple legal actions that Drake has threatened against Universal Music Group around the biggest song from his feud with Kendrick over the summer, “Not Like Us.” No lawsuits have been filed yet, but if this does turn into a full-blown legal fight between Drake and UMG, we are willing to be large sums of money that Inside is going to make a ton of jokes about it.

Recently, it was announced that “Inside The NBA” is headed to ESPN sometime in the not-so-distant future. This left fans with many questions, including whether or not Stephen A Smith will have any part in it. The network’s content president Burke Magnus addressed this question during a recent chat with Sports Illustrated. According to him, it’s not likely.

“We have no plans to do that,” he began. “And that’s because, frankly, the construct of the deal really doesn’t — that’s not how it was conceived. What is conceived is that Turner, as they have always done with this show, with this cast, with the people involved behind the scenes, are going to continue to do what they’ve always done. And we’re going to distribute it on the ESPN platform. Frankly, that’s exactly what we want. We don’t want to change it, we don’t want to interject new talent into it. We don’t want to really do anything to it.”

Smith Show. “Major credit goes to Commissioner Adam Silver and ESPN President James Pitaro for bringing this deal to life, allowing a much-loved show to remain in circulation, even as streaming rights shift hands,” he said at the time. “It’s fantastic to see the show still produced in Atlanta by the folks from TNT, now airing on ESPN and ABC.”

Earlier Friday, TNT announced that they planned to take legal action against the NBA. They referred to the NBA’s rejection of their offer “unjustified,” adding that they believe keeping NBA coverage on TNT is in the best interest of fans. Charles Barkley told The Athletic that he hoped TNT decided not to pursue a lawsuit. “If you have to sue somebody to stay in a relationship, do you think that is a healthy relationship?” Barkley also previously announced that he intended to retire from television at the end of the 2024-25 season. He has been on the air since 2000, joining TNT after retiring from a Hall of Fame basketball career. However, he sounded less committed to those original comments when his money came into question.

Barkley, who is in the third year of a 10-year contract worth $210 million, could become a free agent if Warner Bros. The Wall Street Journal reports that the NBA is “closing in” on television deals with NBC, ESPN, and Amazon valued at $76 billion in media revenue over 11 years, starting after the 2024–25 season. These agreements may result in TNT’s cherished Inside the NBA program, which stars Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson, ending after the 2024–25 season. According to the source, NBC, which would reclaim the rights to broadcast NBA games for the first time since 2002, is anticipated to pay an average of $2.5 billion a year, with roughly 100 games each season.

He also floated an interesting idea. He said that in the event that TNT Sports loses the NBA rights, he has explored reassembling the program at his own production company.

Barkley added that he had spoken with Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal, his co-hosts, about the idea. It should be noted that WBD holds the rights to Inside the NBA. Nevertheless, if Barkley were to succeed independently, he could be able to reassemble the show under a different moniker. It is a solution to many NBA fan’s fears.
