21 Savage’s “american dream” Expected To Spend A Second Week At Number One

In 2023 it took almost half the year before any rap album landed at the number one spot on the Billboard 200. Artists like Young Thug, Lil Durk, and Gunna landed in the top 5. But it took Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape to finally hit number one. 2024 didn’t have any such drought. The first new number-one album of the year was 21 Savage’s american dream which hit the top spot last week with over 130k sales in its first week. The album stayed well ahead of other new projects from Kali Uchis and Kid Cudi that came out in the same week.

Now early projections are emerging for next week’s Billboard 200 and it’s good news once again for 21 Savage. The rapper is projected to spend a second week at the very top spot on the charts selling just under 70k copies. The biggest challenger among new albums is pop-punk band Green Day. The veteran band just released their new album, Saviors. It’s their first since 2020’s Father Of All and the new record is projected to sell more than 50k in its first week. Another challenger to the top spot are Morgan Wallen’s massive 2023 effort One Thing At A Time. Drake’s For All The Dogs and Noah Kahan’s Stick Season round out the top 5 of the projection. Check out the full top 20 predictions below.

21 Savage Could Reign The Billboard 200 For A Second Week

Two of the songs from his new album debuted in the top 10 in their first week on the Hot 100. “nee-nah” which featured Travis Scott and Metro Boomin landed at number 10. “redrum” proved to be the album’s breakout hit debuting inside the top 5.

Earlier today, Shannon Sharpe released his new interview with 21 Savage. The rapper appeared on his Club Shay Shay show to discuss a variety of topics. Lil Nas X’s New Single Scores Middling Hot 100 Debut

For an artist of Lil Nas X’s caliber songs are expected to be massive hits right away. That wasn’t the case with his new single “J CHRIST.” The song just hit the Hot 100 this week but was far lower down the chart than many expected. The same week that Ariana Grande debuted her new song “yes, and?” at the very top spot, “J CHRIST” just landed at number 69. Some of the rapper’s previous hits like “THAT’S WHAT I WANT” started off slow before becoming smash successes. But for the long-awaited lead single for his second album, many fans are underwhelmed.

Another element hampering the debut of “J CHRIST” is the new 21 Savage album american dream. The project debuted 14 of its 15 songs on the Hot 100, 13 of which placed above “J CHRIST” on the charts. Two of those songs “redrum” and “nee-nah” landed inside the top 10. Two additional songs “all of me” and “n.h.i.e” place in the top 20. “J CHRIST” has racked up more than 11 million streams on Spotify and its music video has over 12 million views, so the song is clearly getting some attention. It remains to be seen whether the song will fade from the Hot 100 quickly or become a sleeper hit over time.

Every week, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated January 27, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. 21 Savage, Travis Scott, and Metro Boomin — “Née-nah”

21 Savage’s new album American Dream made a splash on the Hot 100 in its opening week, as the rapper has two songs in this week’s top 10: This Travis Scott and Metro Boomin collab, and another song coming up on this list.

9. SZA — “Snooze”

While SZA’s No.-2-peaking “Snooze” appears to be on its way out of the top 10, it remains at No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart for a 25th week.

8. Teddy Swims — “Lose Control”

Last week was a major career milestone for Teddy Swims, as “Lose Control” became his first top-10 single. It debuted at No. 8 and hangs onto that same spot this week.

7. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

A former No. 1 for three total weeks, “Paint The Town Red” had a slight slide this week, down from No. 5 to No. 7.

6. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

Another former No. 1 (but for just one week), Bryan and Musgraves’ collab is hanging around the top 10 still, at No. 6.

5. 21 Savage — “Redrum”

And here’s the other new Savage song in the top 10. Notably, “Redrum” is Savage’s first top-10 single that features no other artist beside himself.

4. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

The current all-time high for McRae sits at No. 3, a spot it held last week, so it had a slight demotion in the latest frame.

3. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

The staying power of Swift’s 2019 single “Cruel Summer” has been phenomenal, as it’s been in the top 3 of that chart for what feels like forever at this point.

2. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

“Lovin On Me” previously spent three weeks at No. 1, but this week, it made way for a new champion.

1. Ariana Grande — “Yes, And?”

Grande has the first song released in 2024 to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100. “Yes, And?” is Grande’s eighth chart-topper of her career, and if you want to get super granular with the trivia, it’s the first No. 1 song with the word “yes” in its title.

21 Savage Scores Two Top 10 Hits On The Hot 100

21 Savage’s new album american dream arrived amid strange circumstances. It had no pre-release singles and was attached to a 21 biopic that left many fans more confused than excited. Despite that, the album performed quite well. american dream churned out 133k copies in its first week numbers that only a handful of rap albums released in 2023 managed to achieve. The Billboard 200 went through almost half of 2023 without a rap album topping the chart until Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape did it. With his new album, Savage assured there wouldn’t be such a streak this year. american dream debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200.

His new album isn’t the only one to debut high though. Kali Uchis also released her new album ORQUEDIAS to commercial and critical success. The album reached Kali’s highest point ever on the Billboard 200. It debuted at number 2 after pushing 69k, her highest-ever tracking sales week. The other high-profile rap album released earlier this month was Kid Cudi’s INSANO. Despite hype behind the project and some massive features, it couldn’t score a top-10 debut. The album turned up right outside of the top 10 placing at number 13 in its first week.

Savage also landed two songs in the top 10 of the Hot 100. “redrum” and
“nee-nah” with Travis Scott and Metro Boomin landed at number 5 and 10 respectively on the songs chart. do you think of 21 Savage’s new album debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200? Every week, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated January 20, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

It’s been quite the past year for Wallen’s “Last Night,” just about exactly at this point: The song was released on January 31, 2023 and it’s still in the Hot 100 top 10.

9. Doja Cat — “Agora Hills”

Doja is the only artist with multiple top-10 songs this week, and that’s thanks in part to “Agora Hills” setting a new personal-best placement at No. 9.

8. Teddy Swims — “Lose Control”

Here’s perhaps the most notable entry on this week’s Hot 100, as “Lose Control” is the first top-10 single for Teddy Swims. It’s his first song to crack the Hot 100 at all, actually. It’s been a steady rise to the region, as the track was originally released in June 2023.

7. Tyla — “Water”

Tyla had a breakout year in 2023 thanks to her hit single and that is clearly continuing into 2024, as “Water” matches its all-time high at No. 7 this week.

6. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” never quite hit No. 1, topping out in the silver-medal spot, but the song has maintained a high chart position following its April 2023 release.

5. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

Doja said what she said, and she’s been saying it for a while now, as “Paint The Town Red” was released back in August 2023 and it’s still in the top 5 on the Hot 100.

4. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

Bryan and Musgraves’ collab continues to dominate various Billboard charts, as it’s currently No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts for a 20th week and on the Hot Country Songs for a 16th total week.

3. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

“Greedy” previously reached its current chart peak at No. 3, and that’s where McRae’s hit finds itself this week, too.

2. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Swift’s “Cruel Summer” previously enjoyed four weeks at No. 1, and while it’s not on top anymore, the 2019 song is still enjoying significant Hot 100 success.

1. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

This is the third total week at No. 1 for “Lovin On Me,” Harlow’s 2023 hit. This is tied for his longest stay on top of the Hot 100, as “First Class” was previously No. 1 for three weeks in 2022. His Lil Nas X collab “Industry Baby” also reigned for a week in 2021.

Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” Jumps Back To Number 1 On The Hot 100

After a month of many of the biggest hits being slid down the Hot 100 by Christmas music, it’s finally beginning to fade. As Christmas songs fall off the chart this week numerous songs are taking massive leaps back up the charts. Jack Harlow’s “Lovin’ On Me” was the last non-Christmas song to top the charts in early December. The song managed to stick around in the Top 10 every single week despite the influx of holiday tunes and this week it returned to the very top spot.

Elsewhere near the top of the charts are similar songs making big leaps. Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” and Tate McRae’s “greedy” jumped 17 and 21 spots respectively to get back into the top 3. Doja Cat lands two songs in the top 10 with “Paint The Town Red” at number 4 and “Agora Hills” at number 10. Both songs jumped up 26 spots on the chart to hit their current spot. Breakthrough R&B star Tyla also scored a new peak for her song “Water” which turns up at number 7. Check out the full top 10 of the Hot 100 below.

Nicki Minaj Reveals J. Cole Was Hyped To Hear “FTCU” And That The Song Almost Went To Drake

Last month, Nicki Minaj released her highly-anticipated 5th studio album Pink Friday 2. It was her first new album in 5 years dating back to 2018’s Queen. The project is a feature-packed affair with appearances from major artists like Lil Wayne, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert. Another artist that provides a major contribution to the album is J. Cole. He appears for a memorable feature on the track “Let Me Calm Down” but that isn’t the only contribution he made to the project.

During a recent interview on Apple Music 1, Nicki revealed some behind-the-scenes details about Cole’s contributions. “After I played him that song, I played him ‘FTCU.’ I was like, ‘Yo, I don’t like playing my music, but I’ll let you hear another song.’ So I played him that. And when that second verse came in, his reaction is why that song is so high. She also revealed that the song almost went to Drake for his album For All The Dogs. “Because Drake had originally loved that song. While he was working on his album, he was thinking about if that could fit for his album as well. Because I sent it to him when I did it, because I loved the beat. But I wasn’t sure about the chorus.” Check out the full interview below.

The First No. 1 Single Of 2024 Is… A Christmas Song From 1958, Of Course

Every week, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated January 6, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. The Ronettes — “Sleigh Ride”

The new chart covers the tracking week from December 22 to 28, and the chart that represents Christmas and Christmas Eve tends to be the most holiday-focused of the year. That’s certainly the case this week, as the only non-holiday song in the top 10 is…

9. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

Throughout the holiday onslaught, Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” has been the consistent non-Christmas beacon hanging on in the top 10, and it managed to stick around at No. 9 this week.

8. José Feliciano — “Feliz Navidad”

Feliciano’s 1970 favorite peaked at No. 6 during the 2020 holiday season, but its 2023/2024 high has fallen a bit short of that.

7. Dean Martin — “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!”

This is a new all-time peak for Martin’s rendition of “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!,” as last week’s placement at No. 8 matched its previous high.

6. Andy Williams — “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”

Williams now has the all-time record for the span between his first and latest week in the top 10 at 64 years and three months, as “Lonely Street” was first in the region in October 1959.

5. Burl Ives — “A Holly Jolly Christmas”

Spots No. 5 through 3 are the same this week as they were last time, starting with Ives’ holiday mainstay.

4. Wham! — “Last Christmas”

Wham! holds strong at No. 4, and this comes after “Last Christmas” become the Christmas No. 1 single in the UK for the first time ever.

3. Bobby Helms — “Jingle Bell Rock”

Helms hasn’t yet been able to crack the top 2 with his holiday hit, as two titans keep getting in his way.

2. Mariah Carey — “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

It’s usually the case that Carey has the first and final No. 1 single of the year as “All I Want For Christmas Is You” holds onto the top spot as the calendar rolls over, but not this time.

1. Brenda Lee — “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”

Carey was No. 1 last week, but after previously spending a couple weeks at No. 1 recently and falling down to No. 2, 1958’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” is back on top, making it the first No. 1 single of 2024.

Why did Lee and Carey swap spots? It looks like Lee’s song had more momentum than Carey’s. The two tracks had similar numbers in terms of airplay and sales, but “Rockin’ racked up 57.3 million streams (a 16-percent increase) vs. “All I Want” getting 54.8 million (up 13 percent). Carey’s airplay and sales numbers were actually both higher than Lee’s, but Carey had a bigger drop-off in airplay from last week to this one.

SZA’s “Snooze” Becomes The Only Song To Chart On The Hot 100 For All Of 2023

SZA’s new era was already a smash success by almost any metric and she’s continuing to pile up impressive achievements. Her album SOS dropped late last year and spent months on top of the Billboard 200. She scored a number-one hit with her single “Kill Bill” when she teamed up with Doja Cat for a remix. The song ultimately became the third biggest hit of 2023 on the Year End Hot 100. But shockingly, it wasn’t even her only song to land in the top 10 biggest hits of the year.

SZA also scored the ninth biggest song of 2023 with her post-album single “Snooze.” The track picked up right when “Kill Bill” began to slip from the top 10 and carried all of its momentum along. Now that the final charts of 2023 are able to be projected, the song achieved something even more impressive. It’s officially the only song to appear on every single Hot 100 chart throughout the entire year of 2023. Even some of the biggest smash hits of the year like Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” and Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” couldn’t pull that off as they were released too late. And the R&B superstar had a message to fans who have been supporting her the whole way.

SZA’s Newest Crazy Chart Achievement

In the comments of a post celebrating her achievement, SZA replied. “I’m so grateful to everyone in this comment section that streamed and supported me !! GOD BLESS YOU ! Thank you so much,” her comment reads. The R&B star has accomplished so much this year that in a recent interview, she told Zane Lowe that she had no more goals left to achieve.

She has also begun teasing a deluxe edition of her highly successful album SOS. For the project’s one year anniversary she posted a series of teasers confirming that a deluxe version called LANA was in the works. Nicki Minaj Lands 14 “Pink Friday 2” Songs On This Week’s Hot 100

Despite the massive influx of Christmas music that occupies the Hot 100 this time of year, Nicki Minaj still managed an impressive showing on the chart. A week after releasing her highly anticipated new album Pink Friday 2 more than half of the album’s 22 tracks made their debut on the Hot 100. It puts her among pretty impressive company with artists like Drake, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift who made similar album dumps earlier this year.

Leading the way is Nicki’s collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert “Everybody.” The song became the instant breakout hit of the bunch and had numerous celebrities sharing videos of themselves dancing to it on social media. The song made its debut at number 26 on the Hot 100, one of three songs that landed inside the top 50 on the chart. “Needle” which featured Drake continued the rapper’s massive year on the Hot 100 landing at number 34. The hard-hitting “FTCU” also made an impressive debut at number 42.

Nicki Minaj Has 14 Songs On The Hot 100

She also released the songs “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” and “Last Time I Saw You” which peaked at number 13 and 23 respectively.

Nicki Minaj had an even stronger debut on the Billboard 200. Pink Friday 2 debuted on the chart over the weekend at the very top spot. Not only did the album hit number one but it also sold well over 200k copies in its first week, placing it among some of the biggest debuts of the year.
