“Saw X” Editor Confronted By Police Over Horrific Noises

Saw X hit theaters in the U.S. yesterday (September 29), and as expected, came through with just as much gore as one would expect. The movie centers around Jigsaw, who travels to Mexico seeking a risky medical procedure that he believes could cure his cancer. After he discovers the whole thing’s a scam, however, things turn ugly for the con artists behind the operation.

The Saw franchise is known for being pretty over-the-top and twisted, and this latest addition is no exception. Apparently, one of the scenes was so messed up that it even got police suspicious of a crew member. The film’s director Kevin Greutert recently spoke with NME, revealing that the main editor of the film was working on a scene when neighbors heard horrific noises coming from his direction.

Neighbors Called Police Over Editing Sounds

The editor, Steve Forn, was reportedly spending some time perfecting the sound design of a particularly brutal scene. The scene sees one character getting their eyeballs sucked out with an “eye vacuum.” Obviously, the sounds were probably pretty terrifying out of context. “There was a knock at the door,” Greutert began. “We have the doorbell [camera] video of the police walking up, [Forn answering the door] and the police saying, ‘The neighbours [have been] calling and saying someone’s being tortured to death in here.’”

According to the director, Forn told police “‘Actually, I’m just working on a movie… You can come in and see it if you want?’” Police reportedly turned down the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the eye vacuum. “It’s a pretty funny story,” Greutert also adds. “Plus Steve is such a mild mannered guy. I can only imagine the look on his face when he realized what was happening.” What do you think of the Saw X editor getting the police called on him? Do you have plans to check out the new movie? “Insidious: The Red Door” Takes The Franchise Back To Its Roots

Insidious was a staple of the 2010s horror boom. The first film, Insidious, premiered in 2010 and focused on the Lambert family, whose son falls into a mysterious coma. Malevolent spirits then set upon the family due to the connection with the spirit realm their son has formed. The Lamberts’ story was continued in 2013’s Insidious Chapter 2, as the family learns more about what keeps them tied to the spirit realm.

The franchise then moved into lore-building sequels for Insidious Chapter 3 (2015) and Insidious: The Last Key (2018). However, reception for the films cooled immensely over the course of the franchise. Insidious holds a 66% critics rating and 62% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Insidious: The Last Key sits at 33% critics rating and 50% audience rating. Now the franchise is set to return to its roots.

The Lambert Family Return In “Insidious: The Red Door”

Canonically set a decade after we last saw the Lambert family in Insidious 2, Insidious: The Red Door seems set to finally close the book on their story. After receiving treatment to suppress their memories, patriarch Josh (director Patrick Wilson) is still haunted by what happened. However, it is his college-age son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) who is the primary target of the spirits. After falling into a coma 13 years prior (and kickstarting the franchise), Dalton is now experiencing the spirits reaching out to him once more. Moreover, they are reaching out to him via his artwork. That seems like a problem, given that Dalton is now at art school.

The trailer balances scares and action, giving us the franchise’s signature “blink and you’ll miss it” spirit appearances. However, that quickly changes when violent spirits are seen attacking Josh and Dalton. Dalton, who has become estranged from his father, must battle the spirits Josh faced a decade ago. The film also hints at a significant amount of time spent in the spirit realm, as father and son looked to end the haunting that has plagued their family. Rose Byrne and Lin Shaye are also set to reprise their franchise roles as the trailer gives a sense of finality to the franchise. Insidious: The Red Door is set to hit theatres on July 7.

Dracula Is A True Monster In “The Last Voyage Of The Demeter”

The past few years have been full of variations on Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula. The iconic vampire has been sent to us via email, become an evil mastermind on Netflix, and even become an anime anti-hero. Most recently, Dracula is a campy Nic Cage in the horror-comedy Renfield.

But we are now about to see not a man, but a beast. This adaptation comes from Universal, who released the first trailer for The Last Voyage Of The Demeter. The film is inspired by a single chapter of the original novel, as Dracula’s coffin travels from Romania to London. André Øvredal (Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark) handles directorial duties in this seaborne horror.

“The Last Voyage Of The Demeter” Brings True Horror To Dracula

The Last Voyage Of The Demeter follows The Demeter, a trading ship carrying private cargo between Romania and London. Under the watchful eye of The Captain (Game Of Thrones‘ Liam Cunningham), the ship sets sail with one final addition, British-educated doctor Clemens (Corey Hawkins of The Walking Dead). However, as night falls, a creature unfurls itself from a casket and begins to stalk the crew. Those who survive the initial assault must find a way to kill the creature before the ship reaches London. Also among the cast are Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale, The Fall, Game Of Thrones), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad), and Javier Botet (REC, Mama, Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark) as Dracula.

Unlike other adaptations, The Last Voyage Of The Demeter has no interest in showing us a human-like Dracula. Instead, the film focuses on a purely bestial and monstrous creature who has nothing but a hunger to be sated. It is set to be a bloody, and visceral, fight for survival. Furthermore, as the trailer implies, this version of Dracula has the ability to “infect” individuals. That unnerving ability adds a tantalizing splash of paranoia to the film’s tone. Expect no mercy in this brutal, bloody, and tense take on the classic vampire. The Last Voyage Of The Demeter sails into theaters on August 11.

Hyped Horror Film “Talk To Me” Drops First Trailer

2023 is already shaping up to be a great year for the horror genre. From M3GAN to Knock At The Cabin to Infinity Pool, there has been something for every variety of horror fan. Furthermore, legacy franchises have also come out strong, with the likes of Scream VI and Evil Dead Rise gracing theaters. Horror fans are almost spoiled for choice, especially with the range of big-budget and indie films available.

However, the year’s most-talked-about horror flick might be Talk To Me. From brothers Daniel and Michael Phillipou (better known as the YouTube duo RackaRacka), Talk To Me is set to horrify audiences this July. The film was incredibly well-received at Sundance and was almost immediately picked up by A24. Many critics are already calling it the horror film of the year. However, it is not a film that holds back on its horror.

“Talk To Me” Trailer Prepares To Scare Audiences

Talk to Me follows a group of Australian teenagers who come into possession of an embalmed hand that allows them to talk to spirits. However, the film goes deeper than this simple premise. Talk To Me explores the dangers of addiction to a novel thrill via the medium of the supernatural. The story focuses on Mia (Sophie Wilde) and her ever-spiraling journey into the thrill of going to the other side. However, the true horror begins once spirits begin to enter the mortal world. The film promises to be truly horrifying, employing unique practical effects and sound design to create a gruesome tale of caution. Furthermore, with a runtime of just 94 minutes, it will be a concise and direct experience.

The film already holds a 97% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on early reviews. It is the directorial debut for the Phillipou brothers, who are already working on their next film, Bring Her Back. Talk To Me will look to be the horror event of the year, riding its critical reception. Its gruesome and serious tone will put it in competition with the likes of the upcoming Evil Dead Rise. Not one for the faint of heart, Talk To Me releases on July 28.

Jadakiss Gives Hilarious Reason For Not Liking Horror Films

While horror films are great, they aren’t for everyone. Some people simply have a low tolerance for being scared. Others reject the films based on the content, be it gore, jump scares, etc. Even in a new era of horror (so-called “elevated horror”), there are many people who hold firm in their beliefs.

Rapper Jadakiss has some interesting, albeit coincidental links to horror. His given name is Jason, like the iconic killer in the Friday the 13th franchise. He released a collaborative album with Fabolous entitled Friday on Elm Street. Not only is this a reference to horror icons Jason Vorhees and Freddy Kruger, but the album was also even originally titled Freddy vs. Jason. However, turns out that Jadakiss isn’t that big on the horror genre, at least when it comes to the movies.

Jadakiss’ Only Child Status Led To His Dislike Of Horror Films

Appearing on Sway’s Universe, Jadakiss was asked if he had a list of favorite horrors. “[I am] absolutely scared shitless of horror films,” came the rapper’s response, “Besides my name being Jason, I want absolutely nothing to do with horror films.” When pressed on the topic, Jadakiss had a very simple explanation for why he didn’t like the genre. “I’m an only child,” he explained, “So I grew up by myself. So I would be at my cousin’s crib, or we’d go to the movies, and I gotta go home alone,” he continued. Already a hilarious explanation, Jadakiss wasn’t finished. “I’m seeing Michael Myers, I’m hearing shit. The closet’s shaking. My mom don’t come home till 12.” he went on to say.

A lot of people have presumably had the same experience as Jadakiss. They’ve watched a scary movie, only for the scary movie to follow them home. Whether the killer was in the closet, under the bed, or lurking in the corner, an experience like that changes you. It’s completely understandable why Jadakiss is so opposed to horror films. Especially given he cites Michael Myers, it’s easy to see where he is coming from. People today forget that before the amped-up horror of the 90s onwards, Freddy, Jason, and Michael were the scariest things around. But Jadakiss has made his stance on the genre clear.

“The Strays” On Netflix Has Viewers “Scarred For Life” After Watching British Horror Film

Halloween is still many months away, but a recent horror arrival on Netflix has left some viewers feeling “scarred for life” after watching. The British flick is called The Strays. According to many Twitter users, it has an eerily similar feeling to Jordan Peele’s fan favourite, Get Out. It previously premiered on the streamer at the end of February and has managed to keep the internet talking in the weeks since.

The Nathaniel Martello-White-directed project follows Neve (played by Ashley Madekwe), a light-skinned Black woman living in a suburban English town. She works as a deputy headmistress and is married to Ian (Justin Salinger), a white man. For the most part, Neve seems to avoid embracing her biracial status. When two strangers arrive in town, however, her picture-perfect life begins to unravel in ways you could never imagine.

The Strays Trailer

In the Netflix trailer for The Strays, the troubled woman nearly crashes her car, containing her two children, upon seeing the mysterious figures. Later in the clip, we see Neve and Ian entertaining guests while a creepy man watches on from the pavement outside. “What’s that at the window? Someone’s there, can’t you see?” she asks. Surprisingly, the other guests are left confused, asking the hostess, “What’s wrong with you tonight?”

Easily one of the streamer’s most chilling arrivals so far this year, The Strays has plenty of people speaking their minds on Twitter. “Guys I’m watching ‘The Strays’ on Netflix and I’m just thinking about how Jordan Peele has quite literally created his own film genre,” one user pointed out. “‘Get Out’ literally has sons now I’m actually so shocked lol.”

“I can honestly say this is the wildest f*cking movie I’ve ever seen,” another person wrote. “Just finished watching ‘The Strays’ on Netflix and I think I’m [scarred] for life because what the hell did I just watch!” someone else vented after viewing the film.
