The BET Awards is a spectacle that many look forward to annually, and the 2024 ceremony promises to be grand. In a year brimming with extraordinary talent, the awarding body has once again unveiled the nominees for the coveted honors. Without a doubt, one of the most competitive categories this year is the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category. This year’s lineup is a testament to the evolving landscape of R&B and pop music. 

While it features veteran acts like Usher and Chris Brown, it also highlights first-time nominees like Fridayy and October London. All eight artists who have been nominated in this category have an equal claim to the gold and are very deserving of this recognition. On June 30, we’ll find out which of these stars will take home the award. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the male artists who have bagged a nomination in this category for the 2024 BET Awards.

Brent Faiyaz

Since he broke into the music scene with his debut album in 2017, Brent Faiyaz has been a force to reckon with. The singer-songwriter is widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in contemporary R&B. Faiyaz released his debut mixtape, Larger Than Life, on October 27, 2023, and it has been well received by fans and critics alike. Additionally, over the past year, he was a featured artist on a handful of tracks. Faiyaz appeared on “Fell in Love” with Marshmello and “Should’ve Worn a Bonnet” with 21 Savage, among others. Altogether, the quality of the music he has put out within the past year has earned him a spot on this list. 

Bryson Tiller

Bryson Tiller took the world by storm in 2015 when he released his beloved debut album, TRAPSOUL. Since then, he has won three BET awards, and soon, he might bag another victory. If he wins the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, it would be his second in the category. Further, the singer dropped his eponymous fourth studio album in April 2024. The project is among the best R&B releases of the year so far. With this in mind, it’s no surprise Bryson Tiller has been nominated in this category at the 2024 BET Awards. 

Burna Boy

Widely known as the African Giant, Burna Boy is at the forefront of the Afrobeats movement. The artist has been on an unstoppable roll for a while now and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. He has won three BET awards in the past, and in 2024, he might add to his list of wins. Although he was nominated in this category in 2023, he lost to Usher and Chris Brown. This year, he faces both artists again and has a chance of taking the win this time. The work he is being recognized for is I Told Them, his seventh studio album.

Chris Brown

While there may not be any clear favorites this year, Chris Brown is certainly the biggest threat on this list. With seven wins out of 16 nominations in this category alone, he is the most-awarded artist in this category. At the 2024 BET Awards, he might extend his record even further. Over the past year, he released and contributed to several quality records, so there is no question as to why he is being recognized. Alongside Usher, Brown is currently holding this award. 

Drake

The 6 God has been one of the most relevant artists in the industry for a while. Since his debut, Drake has not let up, dropping undeniable hits year in and year out. In 2024, he released his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. The project contains several hits, including “Rich Baby Daddy,” “First Person Shooter,” and “Slime You Out,” among others. Drake has received nominations from the BET Awards every year from 2010 till 2024. Altogether, he has won 17 BET awards, but none in this category. As a matter of fact, this is his second nomination in the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category following 2023’s nomination. Tune in on June 30 to find out if he’ll take home the gold this time.

Fridayy

With his distinct baritone and eclectic blend of R&B and Hip Hop, Fridayy has won the hearts of many. The singer released his eponymous debut album on August 25, 2023. The 14-track project has helped announce him as one of the most exciting new R&B acts. It has also earned him his first BET nomination at the 2024 awards ceremony. Evidently, Fridayy has a bright future, and fans are eager to witness his rise.

October London

The second of two first-time nominees on this list, October London is a very promising R&B act. The 37-year-old singer signed to Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records has been releasing music since 2022. However, it was his third studio album, The Rebirth of Marvin, that put him under the spotlight. He is nominated in two categories at the 2024 BET Awards and may very well win his first major award this year.

Usher

Another R&B veteran, Usher, has been nominated in this category 11 times and won four of those nods. Behind Chris Brown, he is the second most nominated act in this category and has the second most wins. Following his Super Bowl Halftime performance, Usher released his ninth studio album, Coming Home, on February 9, 2024. The 20-track album reminds listeners why the singer is regarded by many as R&B’s champion. At the 2024 BET Awards ceremony, he has the chance to inch closer to Chris Brown’s record seven wins. Award night promises to be very entertaining indeed.

LeBron James Unfollows Diddy After Video Of The Music Mogul Abusing Cassie Surfaces Online

After a video purportedly showing Sean “Diddy” Combs physically abusing singer Cassie Ventura surfaced, LeBron James unfollowed Diddy on Instagram. This new information adds to the plethora of scandals surrounding Diddy, who is involved in several legal disputes. The video went viral on social media, and the backlash has been swift. Diddy apologized on his Instagram account after the video caught fire on Twitter. The reported video took place in a hotel almost eight years ago. The shocking video showed Diddy repeatedly kicking Cassie while running her down in nothing but a bath towel. 

An LA Lakers fan page initially noticed the unfollowing, which sparked a flood of responses online. Many supporters applauded Klutch Sports, LeBron’s agency, viewing the decision as a protest against Diddy’s behavior. While some praised LeBron for adopting a moral stand, others saw it as a calculated PR move. Whether LeBron chose to unfollow Diddy on his own or got advice from Klutch Sports, his fans overwhelmingly think it was a wise decision. Overall, it’s a big deal that LeBron has unfollowed Diddy, and it probably took too long for him to pull the trigger.

LeBron James Unfollows Diddy on Instagram

The media has given considerable attention to the accusations made against Diddy. After Cassie Ventura filed her first complaint, several additional people came out with similar charges against the music mogul. In the video, he is seen running after a 29-year-old Ventura down the hallway of the InterContinental Hotel in Century City while she tries to enter an elevator. He is naked and has a towel wrapped around his waist. He then grabs Ventura by the hair and throws her to the ground.

Though unrelated to the current federal investigation, the video is still making waves. For James, this was the last straw regarding his unusual reluctance to break his distance from Diddy. LeBron has been involved with Diddy on a social level, just like a lot of famous people have been. Overall, it is probably overdue for the LeBrons team to have unfollowed Diddy, who has been involved with several legal disputes that just do not look good to be associated with.

Lil Scrappy Threatens To Fight Diddy In Reaction To Leaked Cassie Assault Video

The entire hip-hop world has been reacting to Diddy’s newest controversy. Over the weekend CNN leaked a video allegedly showing an assault he was accused of last year. The allegation came in a lawsuit filed against Diddy by Cassie. Though the lawsuit was settled quickly, the newly unearthed video presented a much more revelatory lens on what actually went down between the pair. The video has tons of rap fans and many within the rap community itself sharing their reactions, including Lil Scrappy.

In a long and profanity-laced new video, Scrappy relentlessly attacks Diddy. He wasn’t afraid to use strong language to condemn Diddy’s actions. “That was some real b*tch sh*t. You can tell he was doing that sh*t for a long time,” he says at one point in the video. At a different moment he also physically threatens Diddy claiming that the new video makes him want to start a fight with the rap mogul. In the comments some fans agree with him, but many are quick to point out Scrappy’s own history. “Scrappy should be the last person talking” one comment says. Others condemn him for not speaking out until there was a video as they think he already knew the extent of Diddy’s actions. Check out the full rant he shared below.

Lil Scrappy Shares Heated Diddy Rant

Lil Scrappy is hardly the only one to level harsh condemnation of Diddy’s actions following the release of the new video. Aubrey O’Day has been one of the rap mogul’s most vocal critics in the past few months and she unsurprisingly commented once again. In her new post she called out the fact that Diddy denied all of the allegations against him until he no longer could. She and Charlamagne The God have both made the claim that this invalidates his attempted apology.

Cardi B’s recent comments on Joe Biden and Donald Trump were the subject of debate during the latest episode of CNN’s State of the Union show. The rapper told Rolling Stone that she doesn’t plan on voting for either candidate in the upcoming election because she doesn’t feel comfortable supporting a candidate who is actively funding the violence in Palestine.

“The famous rapper, Cardi B… she endorsed Biden in 2020. Now she told Rolling Stone magazine she doesn’t ‘f’ with either of them,” Jake Tapper said. Bakari Sellers added: “I don’t think the biggest threat to Joe Biden is Donald Trump. I think the biggest threat to Joe Biden is people staying at home. Cardi B actually echoes that sentiment.”

Cardi has discussed her issues with Biden on multiple occasions in recent weeks. “When it comes to Biden, I can’t support you because you’re funding a war,” she said during a live stream on social media, as caught by Complex. “You’re funding a war where millions are getting killed. And you know who’s getting killed? This is not a war that is soldiers fighting soldiers. Because if it’s soldiers fighting soldiers, alright, that’s a war, that’s a battle. But there’s children and parents getting killed. I am a parent, I would hate to be a child and to see my father or mother get killed due to a bomb. I can’t support that, I just can’t. My heart can’t. I can’t support that.” She added: “But I’m not going to feel guilty three years from now, two years from now, when one of these old hags is our president and some f*ck sh*t happen. I don’t wanna feel guilty that I’m part of the pick.”

Despite the stance, she says she’s not trying to discourage people from voting. “I’m not encouraging anybody to not vote. Megan Thee Stallion Drops Hard-Hitting New Freestyle Over “Like A G6”

At the start of May, Megan Thee Stallion warned fans to keep a lookout for what was coming soon. She hasn’t disappointed so far starting with her newest single “BOA.” The song is the third in her series of snake-themed released following last year’s “COBRA” and this year’s “HISS.” The song is off to quite a hot start, racking up over 10 million streams in its first 10 days ahead of its debut on the Hot 100 later this week. The song is expected to debut inside the top 40 of the chart when the full roster is released. It follows “HISS” which debuted at number one, becoming the first of a few diss tracks this year to do so.

Throughout the month she’s also been sharing some new freestyles with fans on a weekly basis. Fittingly, she’s calling it Megan Mondays and has already taken on a few notable songs. But her newest freestyle may be her most unconventional yet. She takes on the beat from Far East Movement’s 2010 radio smash “Like A G6.” Though the song doesn’t seem like a natural fit for her fast flows right away, she absolutely eats the song up from the moment she starts rapping and fans in the comments agree. Kid Rock brandished a gun during a new profile with Rolling Stone reporter David Peisner, who claims the conservative rockstar also said the n-word at multiple points. The outlet published the piece on Monday afternoon, detailing a visit to Rock’s home outside of Nashville. The conversation often turned to Rock’s views on politics.

“And I got a f*cking goddamn gun right here if I need it!” he shouted at one point. “I got them everywhere!” From there, Peisner quotes Rock as saying the n-word multiple times during a conversation about rap music. Afterward, he reveals that it wasn’t the only time Rock used the slur during the visit. Of those instances, Peisner wrote: “It’d be easy to label this as the rantings of a drunk racist, but as with everything that Ritchie does, it’s hard to know how calculated it all is. Is he just trying to get a reaction? Is he begging to be pilloried when this story comes out so he can launch into a very public tirade against ‘cancel culture?’ Is this all just a play for more attention? Would any of that make it less sh*tty?”

Since the announcement news about the album has come from a variety of places. 50 Cent confirmed that the album would be handled by Dr. Dre on production, something that delighted long-time fans of Em and Dre’s collabs. There was also an obituary for the character of Slim Shady published in a Detroit newspaper further teasing the album’s concept. But in the midst of a swirl of music-related news, Em also had some personal matters to attend to, most notably his daughters wedding.
