Quavo Gifts Rowdy Rebel Stacks Of Cash As A Welcome Home Present

Bobby Shmurda emerged out of prison this morning and it’s a glorious day for hip-hop. Within a short time in the rap game, he had an everlasting impact that has transformed the sound of East Coast rap. His unfortunate incarceration occurred just as he was about to blow up but still, the streets never forgot about him.

After Rowdy Rebel came out of prison in 2020, he’s kept fans updated on Bobby’s whereabouts while working on new music. It seems now that both rappers are out of prison, solo music isn’t only in the pipeline but also the upcoming ShMigos project. Quavo teased the collaborative effort as recently as 2019.

Before Bobby arrived home this morning via a private jet courtesy of Quavo, the Migos rapper finally linked up with Rowdy Rebel for dinner last night. Footage circulated earlier today with Quay dropping off a stack of money for Rowdy last night that he described as a “lil’ care pack for the gang.” Adding, “You know I love you, bro.”

“Stop playin’. This goin’ straight to the bank,” Rowdy said.

Quavo celebrated Rowdy’s freedom and their link up on Twitter. “My first time seeing my dog rowdy rebel tonight!!! They freed the guys,” he said.

Safaree Says Marrying Erica Mena Was “1 Of [His] Biggest Mistakes”

Safaree Samuels and Erica Mena are seemingly hungry for attention this week, dissing each other on social media and claiming that marriage was one of the “biggest mistakes” they ever made.

Taking their relationship issues to Twitter, Safaree started some drama when he wrote, “I mean this from the bottom of my heart getting married was 1 of my BIGGEST mistakes and it will never happen again. I’m walking away before I End up in jail over some dumb sh*t. Nobody is worth my freedom!!!”

Erica Mena fired back with some shade of her own, writing, Since you always run to social media like a little girl I might as well join in. I absolutely agree with you on this. You are the most selfish, vain and inconsiderate person. And not just with me but your only daughterOut of RESPECT for my daughter and to honor my growth as a woman. I’m going to get back to doing what I do best. Make money and be only about my business. Entertaining social media with my issues isn’t my thing.”

Twitter

Back in November, Safaree made headlines when he teased a divorce from Erica Mena, claiming that he was single on Instagram and tagging Divorce Court in the picture before admitting that it was fake. A few days after, Mena teased Safaree that he could “never” leave her. The two continued their strange relationship when Safaree told Erica that he doesn’t want more kids with her in January because she got “too fat” during her pregnancy. This is seemingly the latest chapter in their never-ending nonsensical marriage.

Mac From No Limit Is Being Released From Prison

While the hip-hop world is busy celebrating the release of New York-based rapper Bobby Shmurda, it is a bit easier for another major release to go under the radar. It has been around 21 years since No Limit Record’s member Mac was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Sentenced in 2001, he served the bulk of his sentence at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Louisiana while maintaining his innocence, his family campaigning to re-open the investigation as he remained behind bars for many years.

The rapper 43-year-old rapper can now look forward to heading home following a Lousiana parole board’s unanimous vote to grant him clemency and subsequently release him. McKinley Phipps Jr., known as Mac by hip-hop fans, was convicted in 2001 of manslaughter in the shooting of 19-yar-old concertgoer Barron “Bookie” Victor Jr. at a nightclub in the state. His legal team battled to commute his 30-year sentence after a series of investigative reports by former Huffington Post reporter David Lohr, who exposed numerous flaws in his conviction.

The Louisiana Board of Pardons and Parole recommended Monday (February 22) that Phipps be made eligible immediately for parole and is now heading to the desk of Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards to approve the measure. If signed, he will then need to appear before the parole board one more time before being released.

“Today’s been a good day. It’s kind of the beginning of the road to freedom, but there’s still some more bases to go.” McKinley’s wife, Angelique Phipps, told HuffPost. “It’s a start. One step closer.”

“Not only is this amazing for us, but I believe that it also provides hope for those in comparable situations. Our goal is in sight, and we will get to the finish line,” she continued. Mac released two solo albums and one album as part of the 504 Boyz on No Limit, with his debut album Shell Shocked garnering him buzz as one of the most talented emcees on the label.

JID Calls Out Institutional Racism In His Poignant ‘Skegee’ Video

While many view Black History Month as a time to celebrate the accomplishments of Black Americans, JID wants to call a little attention to America’s history of institutional abuse of its Black citizens. His new single, “Skegee,” is named for the city of Tuskegee, Alabama, a city central to both Black achievement and where the US conducted the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study from 1932-1972.

In the first verse, JID addresses the conflicting choices with which many Black Americans are faced: “You peep all the karma that come with makin’ the cream,” he rhymes, posing the dichotomy before pulling back the curtain to reveal the game behind the game. “Get your eyes cleaned for something you have never not, not seen.” An interview with former mayor of Tuskegee, Ronald D. Williams, also reveals insight into the city’s history.

In the second verse, he shows how these forced choices are the results of policy, not just tough situations that cropped up out of nowhere. Although JID says he was recruited to Tuskegee University, a prestigious historically Black institution, the name only calls to mind the 40-year experiment in which Black citizens of Tuskegee were involuntarily studied for the effects of untreated syphilis and denied treatment (or even information about the existence of treatment once it had been developed). While JID’s recollection isn’t entirely accurate (there’s no evidence that the unethical study deliberately infected its subjects), his song may very well be many fans’ first-ever introduction to the existence of such a study — and why it remains important to this day.

With so many Americans currently refusing COVID-19 vaccination, it’s important to understand why some of them might mistrust the government, knowing this history, as well as acknowledging how much work is left to be done to repair that broken trust if true progress is to be made.

Meanwhile, JID fans continue to eagerly anticipate his follow-up to 2018’s breakout DiCaprio 2. In the meantime, he’s had several standout moments on compilation albums such as Revenge Of The Dreamers III, the Judas And The Black Messiah soundtrack, and as part of Spillage Village’s fourth studio album and major-label debut, Spilligion.

Cardi B And Mariah Carey Make A Plan To Collaborate On Music — And A Bra Line

Cardi B and Mariah Carey may soon have some new music featuring both on the way, according to their recent conversation in Interview Magazine. In the midst of a discussion about the differences between being a civilian and a celebrity, prejudice in the music industry, and the sexual awakening in pop culture since Carey’s heyday, the two made plans to collaborate on a song together — and on a bra line, after Cardi admits that she couldn’t find one that gave her the right mix of coverage and exposure.

After Carey asks Cardi “Do you have a favorite bra?” Cardi replies, “I don’t know because I’m not really a bra person. These titties be hanging. Even when I wear a certain bra, I have really big nipples, so I need a bra that shows my cleavage but could really tuck my nipples in. There ain’t none yet.” That prompts Mariah to suggest, “We need to do a bra line. We need that specialty line.”

The two then briefly discuss the music industry’s inherent prejudice against Black women, which is something Carey believes she and Cardi can fix. “We’re going to do that,” she vows. “We’re going to do our bra line, and one of these days, can we do a song together?” Cardi agrees, “I would love that. I would love to do a record that touches souls. You had me heartbroken when I was 11 years old and I didn’t even have a boyfriend.”

During the interview, Cardi also acknowledges her past job as a stripper, saying it made her feel “on top of the world.”
