Rick Ross & Nas Stood As Equals On “Usual Suspects”

Yesterday marked the official anniversary of Rick Ross’ third studio album Deeper Than Rap, originally released twelve years ago in 2009. Featuring guest appearances from Kanye West, Foxy Brown, Trina, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Robin Thicke, Nas, and more, the project remains a favorable effort from Renzel, though not quite touted among his strongest bodies of work. Still, it’s an album that’s well worth revisiting, and where better than the Nas-assisted “Usual Suspects?”

The chosen backdrop is a luxurious anthem from The Inkredibles, deftly capturing everything that Rick Ross represents — opulence and authority among the chief qualities. Though some proved hesitant to give Rozay his due as a lyricist, standing alongside Nas as an equal is no easy feat. He rises to the occasion admirably, lining up a pair of verses for the occasion. “17, time to man up,” he reflects. “Feed the fam boy, I put that on these canned goods / All I got was diabetes and a damn hug.”

Nas, aquatic compared to Ross’ methodical flow, joins his counterpart on memory lane. “And still my talent is yet to be challenged,
Had no jet with my own pilot, no blastin’ off with Flex or DJ Khaled,” he raps. “My mom stressin’ college / But my crude sense of logic did allude to my empty wallet.”

Twelve years since its original release, where do you stand on Deeper Than Rap?

A Republican Congressman Complained About Cardi B On The Floor Of The House Of Representatives

Cardi B often incorporates risqué elements into her music, videos, and performances, which rubs some observers the wrong way. Cardi seems to derive great enjoyment from that, though, like when she recently laughed off the 1,000-plus complaints the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) received regarding her and Megan Thee Stallion’s 2021 Grammys performance. The performance also bothered at least one high-profile politician in the House Of Representatives.

While speaking on the House floor this morning, Republican Representative Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin cited Cardi’s performance while criticizing the FCC and partially blaming them for “the moral decline of America.” He said, “I received complaints in my office, and rightfully so, about Cardi B and the Grammys. They wonder why we are paying the FCC if they feel that this should be in living rooms across the nation. I realize that Kamala Harris has used her fame to promote this performer, but I assure the FCC that millions of Americans would view her performance as inconsistent with basic decency. Wake up, FCC, and begin to do your job! The moral decline of America is partly due to your utter complacency.”

This news is still fresh, so Cardi has yet to respond to it, but based on her past reactions to this sort of criticism, it seems unlikely she will lose any sleep over it.

Joe Exotic Responds To Carole Baskin’s Proposed Deal To Help Reduce Prison Sentence

Months after saying that she was relieved that Joe Exotic has remained in prison, Carole Baskin has sidestepped her recent claims that she still doesn’t feel safe by offering an olive branch of sorts for her longtime nemesis. According to Complex, Baskin’s husband Howard recently did an interview with the Mirror, and during the interview, he revealed that he and his wife were willing to bury the hatchet and offer their support to Joe’s legal troubles.

However, in order for them to do so, they suggested that Exotic would have to put his support behind the Big Cat Public Safety Act and stop breeding tigers. Following last spring’s pandemic-ready docuseries Tiger King in which the world saw how much pure animosity existed between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, the Baskins’ offer is shocking.

Apparently, even Joe Exotic thinks so. Nevertheless, the Tiger King subject recently told Entertainment Tonight that he’s down.

“It is time for Carole and Howard to put up or shut the hell up because I’m accepting their offer,” he said. “And I’m gonna take it one step further than that, OK?”

“It is time to get on the phone to President Biden or whoever they need to that they’ve got in their little financial pocket,” Joe continues before criticizing the bogus nature of the charges that he is currently in jail for, “and say, ‘Hey, Joe is willing to support a big cat bill to help protect cats in America from being exploited. But we need to keep our end of the deal and get Joe a pardon because this wasn’t really about murder for hire or shooting five tigers—this was about exploiting Joe to support Carole’s agenda.'”

“So, there’s the offer on the table, all right?” He concludes. “Other than that, they need to stay the hell out of the news with all their crap just to get their name in the paper because I just called their bluff.”

Since Joe Exotic’s statement, Carole Baskin has reiterated that she’ll stand by the offer, but she has also added additional conditions, saying, “I think he’d say anything, but not actually do it. He’d have to actually work with authorities to bring all of his buddies to justice and work with legislators to end cub-handling. Then, I’d want him to be rewarded for having done the right thing.”

Only time will tell if Tiger King subjects Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin will ever put their differences behind them and join forces, so stay tuned for developments in their long-running feud.

Instagram Star Lil Tay Returns With “Bad News”

Does anybody remember Lil Tay, the nine-year-old Canadian girl that rose to social media infamy through her foul-mouthed videos flexing in luxurious cars? Well, after a three-year hiatus (during which she was very likely completing elementary school), she appears to be nearing her return to Instagram… if that’s something you care about.

The pre-teen seemingly had her eyes set on becoming a rapper, crowning herself as “the youngest flexer of the century” in her videos. However, when it was revealed that, along with her mother and brother, she was using other people’s homes and cars for her content, she dropped off the face of the earth. Some people have been wondering what happened to the Vancouver-based girl who regularly popped up on our social media feeds and it looks like an explanation will soon be issued. However, it doesn’t appear to be positive.

For the first time in months, Lil Tay’s Instagram page was updated on Wednesday with a new story, teasing a big announcement about her future on the platform. “We have bad news about Tay,” wrote the post, which was shared several hours ago. It reads as though it was written by a member of her family. While many are expressing that they forgot Lil Tay even existed in the comments, others are already assuming the worst. Of course, a large number of folks are also calling out Tay’s family for chasing clout, jerking around her fans with a vague announcement of this sort without actually revealing the “bad news.”

What do you think happened to Lil Tay?

Nate Husser & Mick Jenkins Spit Bars On “Teriyaki”

Montreal is in the building as Nate Husser taps the honorary MTL-representative Mick Jenkins for the new single “Teriyaki.” Those familiar with Husser’s vibe already know that the lyricist is no stranger to experimentation, a fact that becomes clear within the track’s opening moments. Initially firing off rhymes in a disorienting fashion, it may take a second to gather one’s bearings — but once the beat hits, everything starts to come together. It’s a testament to Husser’s bold approach, and before long, he’s kicking reflective bars over lively synthesizers.

“Never did the costumе, pretending shit but every day was Halloween, even with no pot to pee in, had a lotta green,” he spits. “Streets trust me like banks trust white men / I might just get rich and still trap, I’m just sayin’.” Mick Jenkins comes through to close things out, his own deadly pen making him a worthy sparring partner for Husser. “Bury me with kings or I want cremation, please don’t fake the shit,” he raps. “We not really talking about the art, ni*gas heard it once, you talk about wasting shit / Ni*gas ain’t got aim, you talk about wasting clips.”

For those who appreciate raw lyricism and undeniable vibes, be sure to give Nate Husser and Mick Jenkins’ new collaboration “Teriyaki” a spin right now.

Jake Paul Pulls Out Of Rumored WWE Match With Ben Askren

Somehow and someway, Jake Paul managed to become one of the most buzzing fighters in the country. He absolutely demolished Ben Askren in the first round of their match on Triller Fight Night, knocking out the retired UFC fighter in the first round. Following the bout, which many have speculated could have been rigged, Jake and Ben continued going at each other’s throats on social media, potentially teasing a rematch in the future. However, because Jake knows he’s one of the most in-demand fighters right now, he’s chosen to move on to bigger and better targets.

Revealing that he was offered a deal to wrestle against Ben Askren for another multi-million dollar bag, Jake Paul told his fans that he decided to step away from the rumored WWE or AEW match-up, choosing to focus on his next opponent instead.

“I doubled Ben Askren’s Instagram following within 3 months. Made him the biggest pay day of his life. KO’d him in 1 minute. And this douchebag still talking sh*t,” wrote the YouTube influencer on Twitter. “Isn’t life funny? What I love about power is having the ability to put people on and choosing not to. Ben and I were supposed to have a wrestling PPV match after their fight which would have easily generated millions of dollars. Im choosing not to do it anymore because he’s a f*cking loser.”

Would you have been down to see Jake Paul and Ben Askren have a rematch in WWE? Who do you want to see Jake Paul fight next?

IDK Taps Westside Gunn, MF DOOM, & Jay Electronica For Stacked Posse Cut

IDK has been one of the game’s most unpredictable artists of the new generation, toeing a line between lyrically focused and musically experimental. As such, he’s maintained an intriguing presence, earning mutual respect from artists like Kanye West, Travis Scott, Jay Electronica, Westside Gunn, and many more.

Last night, IDK sparked excitement upon revealing the lineup to an upcoming single called “Red,” logging onto his Reddit account to break the news. Though he did not share a date, IDK confirmed that the track will feature the stacked lineup of the late MF DOOM, Jay Electronica, and Westside Gunn, a veritable collection of lyricists if ever there was one. And given that many of the included tend to appreciate the raw production aesthetic, we can assume that “Red” will keep that spirit alive.

Upon sharing the cover art, minimalistic save for a lengthy message inscribed at the bottom, many looked for clues in the cryptic writing. “I see blue but I thought it was red ’cause that’s what they taught me,” it reads. “And there’s no way to describe it to you… So how do we know if we see the same thing, if we can’t even say that we see the same thing? If me and you can literally talk about colors, and we’re not advanced enough… society, humanity, whatever you wanna call it… to know if we actually even see the same colors then how can we say there is no God?”

Keep an eye out for “Red,” which may be coming as soon as tomorrow, though nothing concrete has been confirmed in that department. Who do you think will end up stealing the show with the standout verse? In other IDK news, the rapper recently united with Offset for “Shoot My Shot,” which you can check out right here.
