Ebro Gives Doja Cat Her Flowers

Doja Cat is one of the artists that has completely taken over in recent years, impressing millions of fans with her sophomore studio album Hot Pink. Her versatility has always been at the forefront of her craft, and she’s been celebrated because of her fearlessness to get creative and try new things in the studio. Finally, one of rap’s most respected radio hosts is giving her her flowers, praising the 25-year-old rapper for stylistically being able to tackle any style she wants.

Taking to Twitter, Ebro wrote, “You can argue that you don’t like what Doja Cat has to say when rapping… But her rapping abilities are top notch, stylistically speaking she can do almost any style.”

Known for writing her lyrics and having a hand in her production as well, Doja is one of the most talented artists of her generation. As she continues to perfect her third studio album, presumably titled Planet Her, for a release in the coming months, this latest co-sign from Ebro could go a long way in cementing her as a force for a more seasoned rap audience.

Smoke DZA & Dom Kennedy Unite For “No Regrets”

Smoke DZA has been one the game’s most consistent emcees, having quietly kept up a prolific pace with releases like the recent compilation album R.F.C (Money Is the Motive), Pt. 1. Now, DZA is preparing to release his brand new album The Hustler’s Catalog 2, a sequel to his 2015 project. Ahead of the upcoming drop, DZA has officially come through with “No Regrets,” a link-up that finds him reuniting with Dom Kennedy over a triumphant instrumental.

Taking to an anthemic brass sample, DZA sets it off with a slick opening verse. “I know the hustlers is feeling this,” he spits. “Steak tartar, breaking bread doing business with / hedge fund babies, they invest, took a million risks / brought his wife to the dealer, she did so much botox she talking like a ventriloquist.” Dom Kennedy steps up to offer some closing remarks, letting fly a solid dose of bars for the occasion. “Most these n***as soft and counterfeit,” he laments. “Online poppin’ shit, trying to save a bitch.”

Check out the latest from DZA and Dom now, and keep an eye out for more news on The Hustler’s Catalog 2 as it surfaces.

Diddy Offers To Pay For Black Rob’s Funeral As His Cause Of Death Is Disclosed

After suffering a series of strokes in 2015 and other health ailments, Black Rob passed away this past weekend at the age of 52. Mark Curry, Mario Winans, and DJ Self confirmed the tragic news, and many fans immediately berated Diddy for not helping the Bad Boy Records alum out earlier before he passed while being in the position to do so.

The “Whoa!” rapper was recently hospitalized for an unknown ailment and was once believed to have been suffering from a rare kidney disease. His death was ultimately attributed to cardiac arrest, however. According to other Bad Boy alums like Mark Curry, however, insist that Diddy had already reached out to him to offer assistance before his death. Page Six also reports the multi-millionaire is looking to pay for Black Rob’s funeral.

A source close to the situation reportedly told the publication, “Diddy offered help for Rob but in the end, sadly, it was too late. He wants to make sure Rob is laid to rest with dignity and according to his wishes. He is helping to make the funeral arrangements.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone recently, Curry clarified the nature behind Diddy and Black Rob’s relationship, explaining Puff had reached out to Rob the day before he died to smooth things over. “Before Rob passed, he said, ‘One thing I was going to do before I leave this earth is make sure we all speak to each other again,’” Curry said.

“It’s always great to see when people are growing and learning to forgive.” He added, “[Rob] was very concerned in getting his life together health-wise. He didn’t have any vices. He was walking the good life and his spirits were good. A true inspiration. A great heart. A kind spirit. He’s gonna be missed all over.”

The Bad Boy Records CEO penned a tribute Sunday (April 18) to his former artist. “Rest in power King @therealblackrob,” he wrote. “As I listen to your records today there’s one thing that they all have in common! You have made millions of people all over the world feel good and dance! You are one of a king! GOD BLESS! Love. You will be truly missed,” penned Puff.

Our prayers go out to Black Rob’s loved ones during this time.

Westside Gunn & Benny React To Viral Griselda TikTok Challenge

Regardless of how one might feel about it, TikTok users have made no small habit of incorporating infectious and catchy hip-hop tunes into their dance challenge videos. It’s gotten to be such a recurring practice that some have even taken to accusing artists of deliberately crafting music with TikTok in mind. While many such songs share similar qualities, seldom is grimy and bar-driven rap used as a backdrop — least of all Griselda’s impeccable discography.

That is, until now. One TikTok user in particular decided to try his hand at fashioning a TikTok dance challenge for the ages, looking to Westside Gunn’s street classic Supreme Blientele for inspiration. Opting for the Jadakiss and Benny The Butcher assisted “Gods Don’t Bleed,” which features a haunting vocal loop from Daringer, the user proceeds to deliver a string of choreographed dance moves over Benny’s clinical verse.

The clip quickly began to circulate on social media before eventually catching the eye of both Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher, both of whom appeared to have different reactions. Gunn seemed particularly amused by its existence, writing “I needed this” alongside a slew of hysterical and grateful emojis. On the other hand, The Butcher appeared overcome with second-hand embarrassment, seemingly baffled that he’d provide the soundtrack to such antics.

Suffice it to say, such is our reality now — one in which not even the work of the Griselda trifecta is impervious to the TikTok takeover. On that note, both Benny and Conway The Machine have recently delivered new albums in The Plugs I Met 2 and La Maquina respectively. Do your due diligence and support both albums now — even if it means putting those choreography chops to good use.

Flying Lotus Connects With Niki Randa For “Between Memories”

Flying Lotus has returned with another new song from the upcoming Netflix original anime series Yasuke, which is set to drop on April 29th. In addition to the Thundercat-assisted “Black Gold,” which is reportedly set to be the show’s theme song, FlyLo has also served up the closing credits by way of Niki Randa-assisted “Between Memories.”

Off the bat, FlyLo’s largely instrumental track is extremely atmospheric, combining swirling synthesizers, shuffling percussion, and a wispy vocal melody from Randa. Though lyrically sparse, the song still manages to conjure heightened emotions as FlyLo’s musical elements coalesce; there’s power in his harmonies, and the eclectic producer deftly straddles the line between inspiring and melancholic. It’s a testament to his ability to take listeners on journeys, and the fact he’s able to evoke such powerful emotions within such a brief runtime speaks to his prodigious imagination.

Check out “Between Memories” now, and look for FlyLo’s music to play a prominent role in the upcoming Yasuke series, on which he serves as an executive producer.
