Swae Lee And Jack Harlow Declare ‘Ball Is Life’ In Their ‘Madden 22’ Contribution

“Ball Is Life,” Swae Lee‘s contribution to the newly released Madden NFL 22 soundtrack with Jack Harlow, is a bit of a departure from the mostly aggressive, boisterous material from fellow contributors like Tierra Whack and Moneybagg Yo. Instead, it’s a spacey, trap&b head-nodder on which Swae croons about “balling every day” over ethereal synths and booming 808. Harlow comes in on the bridge with his usual rags-to-riches braggadocio.

Swae hasn’t released too many solo singles this year, instead popping up on tracks with PnB Rock and Pink Sweats (“Forever Never“) and Skrillex and Siiickbrain (“Too Bizarre“), and on an episode of FX’s Lil Dicky comedy Dave with his brother Slim Jxmmi. Harlow, though, has had something of a breakout year, dropping his debut album That’s What They All Say to overall positive reception and featuring on songs with some of music’s biggest stars including Eminem (“Killer” remix with Cordae) and Lil Nas X (the controversial “Industry Baby“). He also got to meet Saweetie, which was fun.

Denzel Curry Recreates A 16-Bit Classic In His Video For ‘The Game’

In addition to the 11-song soundtrack released to DSPs by Interscope today, the 2022 iteration of Madden NFL also includes another 40 songs which can be found both in the game and on the official Madden NFL 22 Soundtrack playlist on Spotify. While the original soundtrack boasts appearances from 42 Dugg, Jack Harlow, JID, Swae Lee, and Tierra Whack, the playlist version on Spotify adds dozens of previously released tracks.

However, it looks like the curators missed out on the theme-appropriate “The Game” from Denzel Curry, which the Miami rapper shared with a retro-aesthetic video inspired by the original 1995 version of Madden. A thumping, borderline menacing beat backs Denzel’s ruminations on “The Game” — the rap one — as a game plays out in the video with updated graphics reflecting a team named for Denzel’s most recent album, Zuu, and with himself included as the star running back.

Meanwhile, Curry himself has been relatively busy for an artist who hasn’t dropped a new project in two years (even allowing for the pandemic). He’s guested on tracks with fellow rabble-rousers Jasiah and Rico Nasty (“Art Of War“), collaborated with DC Comics on a companion to the Death Metal miniseries (“Bad Luck“), and teamed up with Snot (“Sangria“) and JID (“Bruuuh” Remix) in past months, all while preparing a new album that has fans pretty excited.

Benny The Butcher & Conway The Machine Team Up For “Fly With Me”

Benny The Butcher decided to open his vault and release Pyrex Picasso, a seven-song project designed to bridge the gap between proper studio releases. As he tells it, every song was recorded in a single day three years ago, which should please fans hoping to hear a little bit of that classic Benny — not that he’s faltered in the slightest, remaining one of the game’s sharpest emcees today.

In honor of the nostalgic Griselda vibe, we’ve opted to highlight the album’s closing track “Fly With Me,” featuring his longtime collaborator Conway The Machine. You already know that when these two line up on the same song, it’s sort of like putting Sub-Zero in a room with Scorpion. Bloodsport of the lyrical variety. Regardless of which one you might favor, both men play quite nicely off one another and the soulful “Fly With Me” is no exception. Check it out for yourself, and go stream Pyrex Picasso right here.

They got murals of my face on the buildings
And that’s way in New Zealand
Damn, look at all the paper I reeled in
Before the Shady deal, I was basically dealing
My bitch ain’t have a fat ass, but her face was appealing
