Lana Del Rey Says Her Will Demands No Posthumous Releases Of Her Music

Anderson .Paak generated some attention earlier this week when he revealed some ink that’s more legally binding than it is aesthetic: He tattooed a statement on his arm that reads, “When I’m gone, please don’t release any posthumous albums or songs with my name attached. Those were just demos and never intended to be heard by the public.” While .Paak went extreme with getting that indelibly written on his arm, Lana Del Rey shared a similar sentiment, albeit not on her skin.

Yesterday, Del Rey showed her support for .Paak’s move by sharing the image of his tattoo, taking the opportunity to reveal that she has also taken steps to make sure that her unreleased music doesn’t see the light of day after her death. Alongside the image, she wrote, “it’s in my will but it’s also on his tattoo.”

Meanwhile, Del Rey is still with us, and she has some new music on the way: She recently updated her Blue Banisters artwork and teased a new single. That comes after her first album of the year, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, and her recent appearance on a Bleachers song.

Vince Staples Gives A Somber ‘Tonight Show’ Performance Of ‘Take Me Home’ With Fousheé

Call me biased, but Vince Staples’ self-titled album is still my pick for the best of the year so far. It’s incisive and vivid, paranoid and nostalgic, witty and world-weary, all at the same time. A perfect microcosm of the album’s worldview is its Fousheé-featuring single “Take Me Home,” which Vince and Fousheé stopped by The Tonight Show to perform Wednesday.

As stripped-down as the album is, the circular stage the two artists share is fittingly bare as they sit back-to-back under blue light, delivering their straight-faced performances directly into the camera. The stage itself rotates to bring each to the foreground for their respective verses/hooks.

Vince’s appearance on The Tonight Show is just one of the examples of his newfound commitment to his artistry, which he says he wanted to highlight on the new album. He recently performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts — again, with Fousheé, the lone feature on the album, as his special guest — and he plans to hit the road with Tyler The Creator on the Call Me If You Get Lost Tour. He also popped up in a cameo in Tyler’s Converse commercial, increasing his visibility as he enters the next phase of his career.

Meek Mill Gives A Tour Of His New York City Apartment

As you likely already know, the price of living in New York City is insurmountably high. The cost of a studio apartment can often run you into the thousands, and if you want to rent a 1-bedroom flat, you’d better be prepared to shell out over $2,000. As a world-famous rapper, Meek Mill can afford the best of the best, even in New York City, and he recently showed off his gorgeous apartment for Modloft, giving them a glimpse of his superstar lifestyle.

Allowing the modern furniture company into his apartment to take photos of his place, Meek showed off his stunning view, designer furniture in his living room, and Hermes accessories to add some charm. His wood-paneled balcony overlooks the city with outstanding views, and his bedroom looks extremely comfortable.

Although his apartment isn’t the biggest in the world, it looks cozy and comfortable, and that’s really all you need. Of course, he’s got other spots around the world, and lots of money for short-term rentals, if he wants to spice up his life when he leaves the city.

Recently, the Philadelphia-born rapper has been involved in a feud with hip-hop manager Wack 100, going back-and-forth with The Game and Blueface’s right-hand-man on social media. Read more about that here.

T.I. Sliced Through Soulful Kanye West Production On “Trap Muzik” Standout “Doin’ My Job”

Although Hip-Hop has progressed past the sensationalism of Trap Music during the 2010s, the last decade saw the Hip-Hop subgenre get more popular than ever thanks to a wave of artists like Future and Migos. Throughout the widespread appreciation for trap, some of Hip-Hop’s OGs often debated about the origins of the subgenre, with Gucci Mane, Jeezy, and T.I. being some of the names most commonly cited in arguments as the rappers who created trap.

In recent years, T.I. has made a point to steer clear of claiming that he is the founder of trap, but he has continued to hammer in the point that he is responsible for coining the phrase “trap music.” For that argument, he often points to his sophomore album and his first release on his now-legendary label Grand Hustle: 2003’s Trap Muzik.

While sonically, Trap Muzik sounds quite different than you’d expect an album named after one of the most gritty, unpolished, and raw Hip-Hop subgenres to sound like, it’s definitely an important album in Hip-Hop history, and today, it celebrates its 18-year anniversary. Word has it that Pharrell has previously called T.I the “Jay-Z of the South,” and the King of the South definitely approaches Trap Muzik with that kind of energy. Especially on the post-Blueprint, Kanye West-produced “Doin’ My Job.”

Give it a listen below, and take some time today to revisit T.I.’s work on Trap Muzik. Nearly two decades later, how well has the Atlanta rap veteran’s game-changing album aged?

Quotable Lyrics

And for you to see what I’m saying, open eyes will help
If you could think about somebody besides yourself
Why you pointing fingers at me, analyze yourself
Quit all that chastising and try to provide some help
Instead of calling the law and busting my balls
With all due respect, we don’t even be fucking with y’all

Shady Records’ GRIP Announces New Album

Atlanta-bred GRIP has unveiled the release date for his debut album under the Shady Records imprint. Officially titled I Died For This?!, the project is set to arrive on August 27, marking his first full-length release with the label and following up on 2019’s Snubnose.

It will be his second release ever via Shady after sharing his “Gutter” single with an appearance from WARA.

GRIP’s signing was announced in July, but it was a process nearly a year in the making, per the Atlanta emcee’s accounts.

“This was like fucking last year, we got approached by Paul Rosenberg,” he told Twenty Infinity in July. “He had heard the music through the homie Mike and was just like, ‘Yo.’ Played it for Em and Em was just like, ‘Yo, who the fuck is this? Let’s see what’s up.’ I talked to him a few times and shit. You know all the legal shit, that takes a long time. It was hard to keep the cat in the bag. I don’t even think I told family members and shit like that. We all knew but it was just like, ‘I’m finna do this,’ then if shit falls through it’s like, ‘Damn n-gga, I thought you was gonna do that.’”

GRIP further explains that while the deal was in the works, he and his team focused on completing the album no matter the outcome.

“Pretty much wrapped the album up and everything came and signed a deal,” he added.

Offset To Lizzo’s Haters: “Let These Beautiful Black Women Be Great”

Known for her bubbly personality and body-positive messaging, in an Instagram live video, Pop singer Lizzo recently broke down over fat-shaming, racist reactions to her newest single featuring Cardi B, “Rumors.”

“Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back. It’s like, it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world. You’re still going to have people who have something mean to say about you. I just feel like I’m seeing negativity directed towards me in the most weirdest way, like, people saying s–t about me that just doesn’t even make sense. It’s fat-phobic and it’s racist and it’s hurtful. I’m not making music for anybody.”

Trolls on social media accused the “Truth Hurts” singer of making songs that cater to white people and Lizzo clapped back with a perfect response, reminding folks that she is Black. In the lengthy video she went on to say:

“I’m a Black woman making music. I make Black music, period. I’m not serving anyone but myself. Everyone is invited to a Lizzo show, to a Lizzo song. To this good energy. Everyone is invited. …For the people that just are always going to have something negative to say about me, that has nothing to do with music, or the content of my character, or me as an artist, and just has everything to do with my body or whatever trope you think I fall into, suck my pussy from behind. Cause y’all motherfuckers gonna be the main ones catching up.”

Fans on Twitter came to her defense almost immediately:

Cardi B also did not hesitate to support her fellow music collaborator. In a tweet, she argued, “When you stand up for yourself, they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t, they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”

Cardi was not the only celebrity who felt it necessary to uplift Lizzo. In a TMZ interview, her husband Offset shared a specific message for Lizzo haters.”Let these beautiful Black women be great. Stop judging and bringing out negative energy. We work hard to be entertainers for the world. Let us be.”

Watch Offset’s response below and share your thoughts below, does Lizzo make “white people music”? Is there even such a thing?

Sha’Carri Richardson Hypes Up Her Next Race, But Fans Seem To Have Turned On Her

There was a wave of support for Sha’Carri Richardson after the American sprinter was disqualified from competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics because of a failed drug test, where she tested positive for marijuana. Throughout the Olympics, fans continued to show love to Sha’Carri, who watched on from the sidelines and trained hard for her next race. Now that she’s started to hype up her upcoming competition, fans appear to have turned on her.

On Wednesday, Richardson posted a new video on Instagram, where she got her hair styled and used a Nicki Minaj voiceover to warn her fellow track & field competitors that she’s back, and she’s not the one to mess with. However, considering three Jamaican runners ran faster than Sha’Carri’s personal best in the 100M sprint at the Olympics, fans appear to have lost hope in her winning ability, challenging her confidence in the comments.

Letting fans know about her race on Saturday against the stars from the Jamaican Olympic team, Sha’Carri popped her shit and told her opponents to watch out, but fans weren’t having it. She was instantly met with rude comments about how she would come in fourth place, which will surely only fuel her desire to win even more.

On Thursday, Sha’Carri started trending on Twitter with more supportive messages coming in.

She will be running this weekend at the Prefontaine Classic. Will you be tuning in?

Kanye West’s Chicago ‘Donda’ Event Will Reportedly Be ‘A More Detailed Show On A Whole Other Level’

After a few days of rumors, Kanye West confirmed yesterday that he will be hosting a third Donda listening event, but this time, he’s heading to Soldier Field in his hometown of Chicago. After West shared the news on social media, somebody in his camp offered some more details about the event, revealing that there will be some differences from previous iterations.

West associate Ameer Sudan told Billboard yesterday that the new event is upping its production value, saying, “Expect a more detailed show on a whole other level.”

Furthermore, he said that Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia will also be creative director for the event, as he did for the Atlanta shows. Additionally, West videographer Nico Ballesteros will be filming the event, which will, like previous installments, be livestreamed on Apple Music.

It’s also worth pointing out, on a somewhat related note, this since making the announcement, West has removed all of the posts on his Instagram page.

As for when Donda will actually be released, that remains to be seen. The album was expected to be released after each listening event, but clearly, that hasn’t come to pass. This next event is on August 26, so at this point, one would assume the album currently has a planned August 27 release. Again, though, nothing is set in stone.
