Lucky Daye Releases New Single “Soft” and Announces Album ‘Algorithm’ Due June 28

Lucky Daye Releases New Single "Soft" and Announces Album 'Algorithm' Due June 28

GRAMMY award-winning, genre-bending R&B superstar Lucky Daye has released his new single “Soft” via Keep Cool/RCA Records, offering a preview of his forthcoming album Algorithm, set to drop on June 28. The dynamic new single follows the release of “HERicane,” building anticipation for the full album.

“‘Soft’ is about how love can come over a person and make them feel vulnerable, and whilst it’s unexpected, it’s also okay to embrace it,” said Lucky Date. “To be comfortable doing the things society labels “soft” like cuddling, PDA, hugging and kissing – shamelessly. It’s about a lover putting a spell on you but that spell is in fact love itself.”

Algorithm is inspired by Lucky Daye’s desire to break free from conventional industry rules and carve his own path to success. The album, created with longtime collaborators D’Mile and J. Kercy, showcases Lucky’s unique approach to defying the traditional R&B genre.

In conjunction with the new single, Lucky Daye he also announced the dates for his highly-anticipated “The Algorithm Tour,” produced by Live Nation. The tour starts on July 11 in San Francisco and will visit major cities across North America, including Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, and Toronto. Fans can expect electrifying performances at prestigious venues such as Radio City Music Hall in NYC, The Greek in LA, and the Ryman in Nashville. The tour will feature support from opener Fana Hues.

Known for his incredible live vocals and high-energy shows, Lucky Daye’s upcoming tour is set to be his most ambitious yet, giving fans an unforgettable live experience.

‘The Vince Staples Show’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

Vince Staples Drops Trailer for 'The Vince Staples Show' Headed to Netflix

Vince Staples will make a return to Netflix. The streaming giant has confirmed a renewal of The Vince Staples Show for a second season.

“The Vince Staples Show is back!” Staples said. “The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for season 2. Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!”

Starring alongside Staples in the show were Vanessa Bell Calloway and Andrea Ellsworth.

Last week, Vince Staples unveiled his eighth studio album, Dark Times, via Blacksmith Records / Def Jam Recordings. This album marks a new era in the prolific artist’s career, blending dense lyricism with lush, layered beats, and offering wry, melancholic observations about life, while finding pockets of light in an endless dark.

Dark Times features minimal guest voices, relying on samples, studio friends, and a narrative outro by iconic alt singer-songwriter Santigold, who shares an apocalyptic yet awe-inspiring dream with Staples. Notable moments include the track “Liars,” which incorporates an excerpt from a 1973 conversation between Nikki Giovanni and James Baldwin about Black love, and “Government Cheese,” where Staples raps about an imprisoned friend reaching out after seeing him on TV.

The album balances its introspective themes with celebratory tracks such as “Étouffée,” a bouncy ode to Staples’ Louisiana roots, and “Little Homies,” a message encouraging the younger generation. “Freeman,” the final song before Santigold’s outro, showcases Staples’ reflective coolness.

Ahead of the album’s release, Staples shared the first single and visual for “Shame On the Devil.”

“It’s a testament to where I am right now and how I view things—it’s just a timestamp,” Staples says of the album. “I might not feel like that again tomorrow. But in the process of making this project, these were the things that spoke to me.”

In support of Dark Times, Staples will embark on his headlining BLACK IN EUROPA TOUR, starting June 4th in Cologne, Germany. The tour will visit Berlin, Paris, London, and Manchester before concluding in Birmingham, UK, on June 13. Staples will also perform at various European festivals in August, including Oya in Oslo, Flow Festival in Helsinki, and HipHop Open in Stuttgart. For tickets and the full list of dates, visit www.vincestaples.com/tour.

Drake Set to Have His Own Song on Camila Cabello’s Album

Drake Dreamville

Drake is giving out features to all the ladies. After popping up on Sexyy Red’s latest mixtape, Drake will lend his talents to Camila Cabello.

Speaking with Billboard, Cabello revealed that The Boy will be on two singles from her forthcoming album, spawned by their time in Turks & Caicos.

“I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a nontransactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.”

“He wanted to do one more thing for the album,” Cabello said. “Why does he have his own song? Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album … I love that for me — it’s like that rebellious mood. Who says I can’t do that? It’s Drake talking his shit.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “euphoria” Has Sold Over 1 Million Units in the U.S.

Kendrick Lamar Headlines Lollapalooza's 2023 Lineup

Kendrick Lamar continues to have a good few months in sales. His “Euphoria” disco track has officially sold one million units. According to ChartData, this is Lamar’s third song in 2024 to be platinum eligible, following “Like That” and “Not Like Us.”

In recent news, Spotify has unveiled the 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of the streaming era, from 2015 to the present, as part of its Spotify CLASSICS catalog program. Topping the list is Kendrick Lamar’s influential track “Alright.”

The newest iteration of Spotify CLASSICS, a celebration of catalog music chosen by Spotify’s North American editorial team, highlights major hits such as Drake’s “God’s Plan,” Future’s “Mask Off,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble,” and “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.

Spotify’s hip-hop editorial team undertook the ambitious task of reviewing thousands of songs to compile this definitive list. Unlike other rankings, Spotify CLASSICS is entirely qualitative, focusing on the quality, impact, replay value, influence, and cultural significance of each track. The list reflects the editors’ music and cultural expertise, rather than being driven by streaming data, meaning that massive streaming numbers were not a prerequisite for inclusion.

No Progress in YNW Melly’s Retrial Amid Ongoing Legal Disputes

YNW Melly

YNW Melly appeared in court for a hearing related to his upcoming retrial. The rapper, who is charged with double murder, requested to move forward with the discovery phase, but the judge has not made a ruling as of yet. Get this: the proceedings are on hold while prosecutors appeal Judge John Murphy’s decision to suppress a documentary film they wanted to use as evidence in the trial.

The 20-minute doc, which is considered a short film in Hollywood terms, was filmed before the 2018 murders of Melly’s associates, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, and allegedly shows Melly holding a weapon and briefly mentions the murders. If this is remotely true, the state claims it proves Melly’s presence at the crime scene. Sheesh. This appeal could take months, likely causing further delays. Wild.

YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, yes, his real last name is Demons, is accused of murdering in cold blood Sakchaser and Juvy in 2018. check this out: they say he staged the incident as a drive-by shooting. Can someone explain how bullet trajectory analysis works … Anyway, his initial trial last summer ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury. Wow. Someone said, nah, he’s innocent, or someone held out and said, yup, he’s guilty. Who knows, but the 24-year-old has been incarcerated since his February 2019 arrest and faces first-degree murder charges and a potential death penalty if convicted.

Recently, Melly was transferred from Broward County Jail to the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, FL, marking his first move in nearly five years. That’s a long time in the jail system, not to be confused with the prison system.

In related developments, Melly’s attorneys filed a motion to exclude phone conversations between YNW Bortlen (Melly’s co-defendant), Melly, and Melly’s ex-girlfriend Mariah Hamilton from evidence. The defense argued that these conversations were “irrelevant, inadmissible hearsay” and merely “small talk.” The prosecution countered that argument by requesting access to the calls, videos, and pictures on Bortlen’s cell phone. It’s not looking good for Bortlen, who’s already on trial for his life.

YNW Melly’s case is stuck in a whirlwind of legal fights, with major delays and several motions impacting the retrial’s progress. The next steps are ambiguous at best as both sides continue to argue over key pieces of evidence.
