‘Last of Us’ Season 2 Announces Four New Cast Members

One of the most highly anticipated series, The Last of Us, announced four new cast members to join the sophomore season of the HBO tentpole.

Variety has reported Danny Ramirez (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ariela Barer (“How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” “Runaways”), Tati Gabrielle (“You,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), and Spencer Lord (“Riverdale,” “Family Law”) are entering the dystopian series based on the popular video game.

More from the Variety story on the cast breakdowns. Of course Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie are returning as series leads. While Ramirez is playing Manny, who is described as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most.”

Barer is playing Mel, who is “a young doctor whose commitment to saving lives is challenged by the realities of war and tribalism.”

Gabrielle is cast as Nora, “a military medic struggling to come to terms with the sins of her past.” And Lord will appear as Owen, “a gentle soul trapped in a warrior’s body, condemned to fight an enemy he refuses to hate.”

ICYMI, again, The Last of Us, is based on the smash hit video game of the same title created by Neil Druckmann and developed by Naughty Dog. The official synopsis is “the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

The series is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Druckmann. Each have directed episodes of the series. Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, are executive producing along with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan as well as Jacqueline Lesko and Cecil O’Connor. The Last of Us is a co-production between HBO and Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog produce.

Tyler Perry’s Upcoming Amazon MGM Studios Film ‘Joy Ridge’ to Star Shannon Thornton and Tosin Morohunfola

Tyler Perry is busy dropping films across multiple streamers. His Mea Culpa film just dropped on Netflix, and now his latest Amazon MGM Studios film Joy Ridge announced the project’s leads. Shadow and Act reports that Perry has a four-year-deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Naturally, as part of his brand, Perry is writing, directing, and producing the film Joy Ridge, which is the third as part of his deal with Amazon MGM.

The genre is romantic and stars Shannon Thornton, who is in Mea Culpa, and Tosin Morohunfola. The film wrapped production in Colorado and at his Tyler Perry Studios in Georgia. Producing are Angi Bones and Will Areu under Tyler Perry Studios.

Here’s the logline, that Variety reported:

“Amidst the picturesque landacapes of Colorado Joy (Thornton) finds herself on a holiday trip with a man she envisions as ‘the one,’ However, her journey takes an enchanting turn as she stumbles upon someone who might just redefine her notions about the life she once knew back home.”

Two other films that have been announced under the Amazon MGM are a Meagan Good starrer Divorce in the Black, which is billed as a romance drama about a “broken marriage,” and a police brutality themed film Black, White & Blue that focuses on and stars Meagan Tandy, Tyler Lepley and Kat Graham. Perry is staying busy. He is one of the few production moguls with deals all over the spectrum, including his film and TV deal at Netflix and his massive presence at BET and BET+.

New Trailer for A24 Horror Film ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ Starring Jurassic World Dominion’s Justice Smith and Danielle Deadwyler

A24 is becoming known for their smart horror films as much as their off beat dramas these days and their upcoming horror thriller I Saw The TV Glow, intends to be their next scary movie hit.

The film stars Jurassic World Dominion’s Justice Smith with Brigette Lundy-Paine (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Ian Foreman, Helena Howard, Fred Durst and Danielle Deadwyler also star in the film, written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun.

[WATCH] First Trailer For “Freaknik” Documentary Featuring 21 Savage, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon

The very first trailer for the forthcoming Freaknik documentary Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told, ATL’s pioneering HBCU festival that was popularized in the early 90s, has been released.

The in-depth doc features various celebrities speaking about going to Freaknik, including Jermaine Dupri, Rasheeda, and Jalen Rose. 21 Savage, Jermaine Dupri, and Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell are also featured in the documentary and serve as the film’s producers.

Jalen Rose recalls the days of Freaknik, saying “I don’t know what heaven looks like, but this seems like a version of it.”

Meet the Cast: Jackson 5 Members Announces for Michael Jackson Biopic

Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming biopic Michael, based on the epic life story of Michael Jackson, has just announced who will play MJ’s iconic brothers and members of the Jackson 5.

As reported by Shadow and Act, Jermaine Jackson will be played by Jayden Harville (younger) and Jamal R. Henderson (older), Marlon Jackson will be portrayed by Jaylen Lyndon Hunter (younger) and Tre Horton (older), Tito Jackson will be played by Judah Edwards (younger) and Rhyan Hill (older) and Jackie will be played by Nathaniel Logan McIntyre (younger) and Joseph David-Jones (older).

“The truly epic nature of this film required a total of ten actors with the talent to portray the Jackson 5 through the years,” says producer Graham King. “I’m thrilled to bring this extraordinary group of actors and performers to worldwide audiences in this film.”

Here’s the logline for the biopic:

Michael will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became known worldwide as the King of Pop. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, captured by his most iconic performances. As never before, audiences will experience an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.

Michael is in production now from Lionsgate and is expected to be released in theaters on April 18, 2025, to worldwide audiences.

ICYMI Jermaine’s son, Jaafar Jackson, plays his real-life uncle, with Juliano Krue Valdi as Michael in his younger years. Earlier reported cast announcements include Nia Long and first-time academy award nominee Colman Domingo. Miles Teller is also starring.

John Logan is writing and producer of King, along with the co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate, John Branca and John McClain.

Teaser & Poster Released for ‘Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead’ Remake

Looks like there’s another exciting movie remake coming to theaters soon. Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, a BET+ original film, will see a theatrical run starting April 12 via Iconic Releasing. It will hit the streaming platform after the initial release.

You may or may not know, but the original dark comedy film of the same name came out in 1991 and starred Christina Applegate, Keith Coogan, and Joanna Cassidy.

The new film star Simone Joy Jones stars in the role initially played by the unforgettable Christina Applegate. The updated DTMTBD has an ensemble cast that includes Nicole Richie, June Squibb, Donielle Tremaine Hansley, Jermaine Fowler, and Ms. Pat. Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson, Gus Kenworthy, and Tyriq Withers also star. The film is directed by Wade Allain-Marcus and from a script penned by Chuck Hayward.

Here’s the official description:

Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell (Simone Joy Jones) can’t wait to spend the summer living it up with her friends in Spain before heading to Howard University in the fall. But when her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to head to a much-needed wellness retreat in Thailand, Tanya is forced to stay home with her three siblings instead. ‘Bad Boys 4’ Set Photo Reveals Will Smith’s Character Mike Lowrey Is Possibly Getting Married?

Here’s a movie to be excited about … Bad Boys 4 is currently in production, and someone leaked a set photo on the Twitterverse, now officially called “X.”

Even People reported the leak on their official X account, but it’s out there, and Will Smith is apparently on set and in character with This is Us star Melanie Liburd in what appears to be a wedding scene. So check this: Liburd was announced as a part of the cast to play a new character named Christine.

There’s no official word about who Christine is in the story, but it’s clear she’s some love interest if we’re to believe our eyes, but who knows? Some misdirection could be at play here, but that’s just speculation. But something has been going on since Smith’s Det. Mike Lowrey’s character and Liburd’s Christine are kissing during this scene. So maybe Smith’s character, who’s historically been a lady’s man, is possibly hopping over the broom, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Bad Boys 4 is aiming for a June 14 release, so it’s safe to say production may be winding down and likely heading into post-production.

What’s cool is Bad Boys 4 is being directed by the creative team Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Also, in the report from People, the fourth installment will also star Vanessa Hudgens, Eric Dane, and Alexander Ludwig. Let’s not forget Martin Lawrence will co-star alongside Smith, playing Det. Marcus Burnett. But Tasha Smith is replacing Theresa Randle as Marcus’ wife, Theresa. Interesting but that happens.

Wedding or not, we’re excited for Bad Boys 4, and it’s great to see Will Smith back starring in a big franchise again.

Tyler Perry is ‘A Little Annoyed’ with How Long it’s Taking to Make ‘Sister Act 3’

You know Tyler Perry stays busy, and after the release of his newest film, Mea Culpa, he gave an update on one film fans from across the spectrum want to see: Sister Act 3.

Perry was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight and explained why the second sequel and third installment of the franchise are taking so long to come together. “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long, like I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this,”

Perry also said, “When I’m outside producing with — you know, Disney’s a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie, and Whoopi really wants to get this movie.”

Perry is producing the film, and the good news is that Whoopi Goldberg is reprising her memorable leading role as Dolores Van Cartier/Sister Mary Clarence. Get this: Goldberg has been vocal about wanting Keke Palmer, Lizzo, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and more to be involved with the new Sister Act, but there have been no other significant cast confirmations.

“It’s coming. We gotta shoot it, but it’s happening,” Said Goldberg in her own conversation with Entertainment Tonight a couple years back in 2022. “You’re never fully happy with a script because one of the things you find is you wanna have the space to make an adjustment if you need to. Sometimes what looks right on paper doesn’t come out of your mouth the right way. You have to move it around a little bit but I’m very hopeful people will be happy.”

Going back even further, the original announcement came out in 2020 as it was set to be released on Disney+. What we do know is Sister Act 3 is most certainly the next film in the successful franchise 30 plus years in the making following 1993’s Sister Act 2: Bad In The Habit. Okay, Tyler, let’s get going … kidding (prayer hands emoji).

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Surpasses $100M at the Worldwide Box Office

Paramount Pictures biopic Bob Marley: One Love, based on the prolific life of Jamaican musician Bob Marley, has eclipsed $100 million at the box office in only ten days.

The breakdown includes over $60 million in North America and nearly $40 million from foreign box office. Full stop. These days, when theatrical successes are few and far between, as the exhibition industry still works out the kinks post-pandemic, this is a big win.

It is fair to say Bob Marley: One Love has performed better than projections with a modest production budget of $70 million.

The biopic is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch, who plays Marley’s wife, Rita Marley. Despite the strong performance, the film follows other run-of-the-mill biopic blueprints, follows Marley’s life during essential moments, and dives into his music and the storied activism that arose from it.

In a statement from Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley, he said: “My family and I are honored with the amazing response to ‘Bob Marley: One Love’. Like my father’s music, this movie is meant for the people and his message of peace, love, and unity is clearly connecting with audiences around the world. We thank the people for embracing this film and in so doing helping to highlight the message of one love.”
