Doja Cat Draws Attention To “Suffering” In Palestine, Ukraine, And More With Passionate Global Citizen Festival Speech

Doja Cat used her platform at the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday night in New York City to draw attention to injustices taking place in Palestine, Ukraine, and several more countries across the world. In doing so, the Scarlet rapper called on her fans to continue using their voices to raise awareness for those in need of help.

“Right now, millions of men, women and children in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, the Congo and all across the world, are suffering. In times like this, it is important to remember that we have the power to bring change, love light and hope to those who need it most,” Doja said, as caught by Billboard. “I join forces with Global Citizen to help people in areas of conflict and crisis, and I know so many of you join me in taking action to earn your tickets to be here tonight. But we can’t stop now. Please keep using your voice to help those fleeing violence get the food, shelter and education they need and very, very much deserve. There is a beauty in strength in all of you who are watching this, and who choose to be here tonight. This is our time to put it into what matters most, and that is life.”

Doja is far from the first artist to speak out on the situation in Palestine. Macklemore recently made headlines for shouting “F*ck America” during a performance at the Palestine Will Live Forever Festival. He eventually got dropped from Neon City Festival in the wake of the move. He also released the song, “Hind’s Hall 2,” earlier this month.

Yet Again, Doja Cat Has Denied Being Secretly Married To Joseph Quinn, This Time At Global Citizen Festival 2024

Although Doja Cat will make for a rather dazzling bride, the “Paint The Town Red” rapper has yet again let the public know that moment hasn’t arrived.

Yesterday (September 28), Doja Cat used her breathtaking performance during Global Citizen Festival 2024 to deny that she secretly married Joseph Quinn (of Stranger Things fame).

While singing her song “Agora Hills,” Doja Cat flashed her bare ringing then said, “I’m not married.”

This marked the second time Doja Cat brushed off self-inflicted rumors that the two were ready to or had already walked down the aisle.

On September 21, Doja Cat initiated the rumor by flashing a ring during her set at iHeart Radio Festival 2024. However, shortly after fans began to congratulate the rumored couple. In a now deleted upload onto X (captured by Pop Crave, viewable here), Doja Cat wrote: “No, I’m not engaged. Its. David Yurman ring with no rocks in it.”

After supposedly getting together back in August (no, thanks to Joseph Quinn’s Stranger Things co-star Noah Schnapp), fans have rooting for the pair. Neither have confirmed that they are indeed a romantic item. However, that did not stop Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn from gallivanting around Europe hand in hand following the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On September 28, the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park will play host to the 2024 Global Citizen Festival. The event is coming into shape with the headliners announced today, June 18: Doja Cat, Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Rauw Alejandro lead the way, while additional performers are set to be announced.

The event is set to be hosted by Hugh Jackman (a Global Citizen Ambassador), while Jane Goodall and Coldplay’s Chris Martin (the latter being the Global Citizen festival curator) are expected to appear.

There are two main ways to get tickets. There’s a general on-sale that begins today at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster, or you can earn free tickets by “taking action” through Global Citizen. More information is available on the event website.

Doja said in a statement (as Billboard notes), “It’s been a few years since I was last on the Global Citizen Festival stage in Paris, and I’m excited to join forces with Global Citizen once again in Central Park this September to drive as much action as we can to make the world a better place. We all have a part we can play to help end extreme poverty and stand up for equity. I’m looking forward to being part of this major evening of positive change.”

A statement from organizers also notes, “The hunger crisis continues to grow, infectious diseases are still spreading, debt is on the rise, and last year was the hottest on record. Meanwhile, governments everywhere are reducing their contributions to foreign aid, with more than half of G7 countries having proposed cuts this year. Despite the emerging gap between what the world needs and what seems politically possible, the plight of the world’s most vulnerable communities is more urgent than ever. This is a critical year for the global community to support frontline organizations, invest in lifesaving solutions, and act today, to save tomorrow.”

Megan Thee Stallion Reportedly Had A Beyoncé-Related Reason For Dropping Out Of Global Citizen Festival

Earlier this month, it was reportedly that Megan Thee Stallion had unexpectedly dropped out of Global Citizen Festival due to a scheduling conflict. As it turns out, she had to be in her hometown, Houston, Texas, to help out a friend: Beyoncé.

According to Page Six, Beyoncé invited her to perform at her Renaissance Tour date in their shared hometown — an offer Thee Stallion couldn’t refuse. After all, it was Beyoncé who helped deliver Meg her first-ever Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single with her appearance on the “Savage” remix, and performing for the Renaissance Tour in the city both artists called home certainly constitutes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

As for why the conflict came up at the last minute, a source told Page Six “an inadvertent duplicate scheduling by her team” caused the mix-up.

Meanwhile, Global Citizen is going forward with headliners Jung Kook, Lauryn Hill, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Megan Thee Stallion has been busy of late, returning to the spotlight after taking some downtime in the aftermath of the trial against Tory Lanez for shooting her and amid her ongoing legal dispute with her label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. Meg made her comeback in splashy fashion, joining Cardi B for her new Dembow-influenced single “Bongos,” which they also performed at the 2023 MTV VMAs. She also announced her casting for season 7 of Big Mouth and role in the new A24 movie Dicks, and had a viral moment with Justin Timberlake backstage at the VMAs. With a Beyoncé performance allegedly coming soon (the Renaissance Tour arrives for two dates in Houston this Saturday), it looks like Thee Stallion is back.

Megan Thee Stallion Has Reportedly Dropped Out Of 2023 Global Citizen Festival

Megan Thee Stallion’s Hottie tri-state area fans’ opportunity to catch the “Bongos” rapper performing live in the region has just dropped to one. Tonight (September 12), Megan is set to take the stage during the 2023 VMAs. However, her scheduled performance in New York City later in the month has reportedly been canceled.

According to Billboard, Megan Thee Stallion has pulled out of the 2023 Global Citizen Festival. Although a formal announcement hasn’t been posted on the event’s social media pages, in a statement shared exclusively with a representative confirmed the news.

“Due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be available to perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival,” said the rep.

The remaining roster includes Jung Kook, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Anitta, and more. Global Citizen Festival is described as a global movement whose goal is to end poverty. Each year, the event calls on world and corporate leaders to support the organization’s call for financial equity, environmental justice, as well as food and job security for all.

The 2023 Global Citizen Festival is set to take place in New York City’s Central Park on Saturday, September 23. Find more information here.

Megan Thee Stallion Drops Out Of 2023 Global Citizen Festival Lineup

Megan Thee Stallion has reportedly dropped out of headlining the 2023 Global Citizen Festival, just eleven days before the event. According to a statement from the festival, as reported by Billboard, she is no longer able to make it “due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict.” She was originally slated to be one of the festival’s headliners, alongside Ms. Lauryn Hill and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is currently uncertain if a replacement act will be secured. The festival is scheduled to be held at the Great Lawn in New York’s Central Park on Saturday, September 23rd.

Numerous fans on social media are speculating that Megan’s absence might hint at something else. Fans are hoping this means a potential appearance at Beyoncé’s Houston show in Texas, scheduled for the same day as the Global Citizen Festival. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding this. Both artists hail from Houston and collaborated on a remix of Megan’s viral hit “Savage,” released in March 2020. Megan has frequently acknowledged Beyoncé’s influence on her artistic journey.

Fans Speculate Megan Might Be Joining Beyonce In Houston Instead

Although Megan won’t be able to perform at Global Citizen Festival, audiences will still be able to enjoy other sets. Conan Gray and Stray Kids are also slated to take the stage at this year’s festival. Streaming information for the event will be available shortly. Megan Thee Stallion is scheduled to make a special appearance at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards. She will perform “Bongos” live for the first time alongside Cardi B.

The Global Citizen Festival is set to take place in New York City’s Central Park. The festival’s primary goal is to take immediate action to combat extreme poverty. They are advocating for world leaders to address not only this issue but also the climate crisis and gender equity for women and girls. The timing of the concert and its initiatives aligns with a September gathering of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Tems Performs ‘No Woman, No Cry’ From ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ At Global Citizen Festival

This November, Tems’ cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” will appear on the soundtrack of Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. A portion of her cover appeared in a trailer for the movie, which was revealed in July, and an EP containing the song was released shortly after. This weekend, Tems performed the song live for the first time at Global Citizen Festival in Ghana.

Joined by a backing band, Tems is seen in a fan-shared clip singing the song with her vocals just about matching the quality of those on the studio recording. The crowd mirrors her energy, particularly as she gets to the bridge, singing along, as Tems repeats, “everything’s gonna be alright, everything’s gonna be alright.”

Tems has come a long way in the past five years. In an interview with GQ UK, she revealed that in 2017, the year before she released her debut single, “Mr. Rebel,” she was living alone and struggling financially.

“There were times when I was not just broke – I was broke and hopeless,” she said. “I used to steal food. I used to go to my aunty’s house just so she could give me food to take home,” she says. “I just felt like, What is the point of me existing right now? You have to remember those times. Because that person does not exist anymore.”

Over the course of the past year, she’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Drake, Future, and Beyoncé. Not to mention, she’s contributed to the soundtrack of one of the year’s most anticipated films.

Ed Sheeran Jokes About His And Beyonce’s Famously Contrasting Outfits From A 2018 Performance

Back in 2018, Ed Sheeran and Beyonce performed their duet “Perfect” at Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, an event that honored Nelson Mandela a century after his birth. While Sheeran wore a simple outfit consisting of jeans and a casual shirt, Beyonce was wearing a flashy violet gown. As Insider noted at the time, this sparked conversations, with some saying the different outfits sent a message about gender standards while others argued that both artists dressed true to their respective styles.

Whatever the case, last night, Sheeran and James Corden joked about the moment on The Late Late Show.

As part of his week-long residency on the program, Sheeran joined the host for a segment called “Side Effects May Include.” The bit parodies medical ads by listing off fake side effects for non-medical things. One of the topics was “being underdressed next to Beyonce” and Sheeran and Corden took turns reading off the side effects, with Corden going first:

  • “Everyone being like, ‘Ed, what were you thinking?’”
  • “Being like, ‘I thought I looked nice, and then Beyonce shows up.’”
  • “Igniting a public debate about our cultural expectations of men and women”
  • “Being like, ‘Ugh, did I really look that bad? I mean, the t-shirt was clean!’”
  • “Really ticking off the Beyhive with your casual disrespect”
  • “Listen, James, if you’ve never stood next to Beyonce, you just can’t understand what you’re up against.”
  • “Getting the entire internet’s opinion of your shoes”
  • “Knowing that, in my heart of hearts, no matter what I might’ve worn, I am still me standing next to Beyonce.”

Watch the full segment above. Sheeran also performed “Thinking Out Loud” on the show, so check that out below.
