Freddie Gibbs Thinks He And DJ Akademiks Can Make Amends, “We’d Probably Be Cool…”

Freddie Gibbs Responds to Gunna's Diss Tweet in a Series of Tweets

While he prepares for the release of his highly anticipated follow up to 2020’s critically acclaimed Alfredo, Freddie Gibbs has been dealing with beefs with Benny The Butcher and DJ Akademiks. He was even attacked and beaten up by Benny and his entourage at a barbeque restaurant.

In a clip for a new interview with Funkmaster Flex, the topic of DJ Akademiks comes up, and contrary to popular belief, Gibbs said that he thinks that if he and Ak sat down and had a conversation, then they would be cool with each other.

“I love Akademiks,” Gibbs said. “We gonna have a sit-down, but you had to get that shit for all that shit you’ve been kicking. You had to get that.”

Flex added that he admires Ak for speaking his mind, to which Gibbs agreed and said that he could see himself actually being friends with Ak. “I think if we were to have a conversation, we’d probably be cool, I take it too,” Gibbs said. “I’ll take everything he say, and I love it. But you gotta take it when I give back.”

Freddie’s beef with Ak started in 2020 after Ak responded to Gibbs calling his former label boss, Jeezy “irrelevant.” Ak commented “If Jeezy is irrelevant, Freddie Gibbs, you are absolutely irrelevant as well.”

Since then there has been an on and off beef between the two. While the beef has not been violent, it sure has been hilarious, with Gibbs making a humorous freestlye about Ak, saying that he was going to “squeeze [DJ Akademik’s] tittes,” and making “Fuck Akademiks” a popular phrase on social media.

Freddie Gibbs Seemingly Shades Benny The Butcher’s Documentary About The Late DJ Shay

Freddie Gibbs has had up to here with all the music documentaries that have come out lately — including one in particular that seemingly prompted him to tweet his thoughts on the matter earlier this week. Certainly, there has been a proliferation of self-produced documentaries by entertainers aiming to do some mythmaking, from big names like Kanye West and his Netflix-based Jeen-Yuhs to Hulu’s Look At Me: XXXTentacion, which was produced by the controversial rapper’s family, to Lil Baby telling his own life story with Untrapped on Amazon Prime.

As Gibbs put it, “Everything don’t need to be a documentary.”

However, given recent history, it would seem his comments were directed more at one specific rapper than any of those named above. Especially since, the night before he tweeted, Buffalo rapper Benny The Butcher shared a trailer for Long Live DJ Shay, a documentary he made about a local Buffalo DJ and his personal mentor who passed in August of 2020. Shay was instrumental in building out Buffalo’s burgeoning underground music scene, giving local rappers both beats to rap on and venues to perform in, and was particularly invested in the rise of Griselda Records, Benny’s crew, and arguably the biggest names to rise from the upstate New York scene to date.

Of course, little of that would matter to Gibbs, with whom the Butcher has been fighting a bitter feud involving restaurant fisticuffs, stolen chains, and black eyes on stage. (Side note: “Freddie” and “Benny” don’t sound like the names of two dudes who should be rap beefing. These are Sandlot character names.) Their conflict has since cooled to a passive-aggressive war of extremely petty words, and Fred’s most recent tweet would certainly fall in line with that. Benny hasn’t responded — yet — but maybe he’s finally going to take the hostilities to the studio and rap about it on his new compilation tape dropping this week.

Freddie Gibbs And Moneybagg Yo Celebrate Their Excess Wealth In The Luxurious ‘Too Much’ Video

While Freddie Gibbs’s recent headlines have focused on his intense back-and-forth over social media with Benny The Butcher, the Indiana rapper has clearly not lost a step when it comes to the booth. The “Too Much” video finds the Bandana artist celebrating his excess wealth surrounded by beautiful women playing slots. With money in mind, it made perfect sense to throw Moneybagg Yo into the mix for a guest appearance.

The two traverse the casino while security watches with fury through their security cameras. It is a unique foray for Gibbs, as the production is more trap-focused and he utilizes autotune on his vocals. As for Moneybagg, this beat is right in his usual brooding yet high-energy pocket.

“Too Much” marks Freddie Gibbs’s first release of 2022 and comes with the announcement of his forthcoming album $oul $old $eparately set to release on September 30. “Too Much” follows Gibbs’s deluxe edition of Piñata, released in 2021. The 40-year-old is coming off of a major year after Alfredo, fully produced by The Alchemist, was nominated for a Grammy at the 2021 award show.

Moneybagg Yo has stayed present, notably joining his label CMG The Label for their compilation album Gangsta Art. He was also featured on Offset’s recent single “Code” and the two appeared on Trippie Redd’s “Big 14” in August.

Check out the video for “Too Much” above.

$oul $old $eparately is out 9/30 via ESGN and Warner. Pre-order it here.

Freddie Gibbs Launches Billboards Promoting His Forthcoming Album

Freddie Gibbs Responds to Gunna's Diss Tweet in a Series of Tweets

What better time to roll out an album than in the middle of beef? With all eyes on Freddie Gibbs, he has begun to promote a new release via billboards.

TMZ spotted the ads for SSS Resort & Casino in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. The Billboards aren’t for a casino at all; SSS Casino is the name of Freddie’s next album.

SSS means “Soul is Sold Separately,” which is mentioned when you call the posted number. Rabbit, which is also posted on the billboard, is a nod to his “Big Rabbit” nickname.

Ready for his album?

The Benny the Butcher and Freddie Gibbs beef may be going a bit too far. After Benny flashed chains snatched from Gibbs during a fight, the BSF leader hit social media over the weekend to flash images of Gibbs’ girlfriend giving oral sex.

When sharing an image of Gibbs’ bae licking his bald head and then another performing the sexual act, Benny delivered a message: “@FreddieGibbs u gotta be careful…she’ll put tht tongue anywhere”

Gibbs was sharp in his reply:

“Oh yeah fam I knew my girl did porn when I met her. Y’all some detectives tho. Try again champ @getBenny U wish yo wife was this bad fam I seen her she ain’t it!”

Gibbs’s girlfriend, known on social as The Fit Mami, thanked Benny for the promotion. “Thanks @getbenny I was wondering where all those new subscribers were coming from,” she wrote.
