Big Sean’s New Album Is Projected To Be Lowest-Selling Of His Career

Big Sean went through a lot to get his new album made. The rapper poured his blood, sweat and tears into Better Me Than You, and fans could tell. The album was packed with introspective songwriting and uplifting sounds. Unfortunately, the uplifting elements have not applied to album sales. Hip Hop By the Numbers released the projected first week sales for Better Me Than You, and they are not good. In fact, they will mark the lowest-selling first week of Big Sean’s entire career.

Big Sean’s latest album is projected to sell less than 24K in its first week. Statistically, these numbers will put him outside of the top 20 on the Billboard 200 charts. Still high, right? Well, not for Big Sean. Despite not being considered “Big Three” caliber, Sean has been a steady commercial force throughout his entire career. His first four albums all topped the hip hop charts, and his third album, Dark Sky Paradise (2015), managed to top the Billboard 200. To date, none of Sean’s studio albums have charted lower than three. Better Me Than You will be lucky to crack 20.

Big Sean Will Debut Outside Of Top 3 For The First Time

There are, of course, lots of variables at play here. Big Sean hasn’t released an album in four years. Said album, Detroit 2, was not the commercial success that its predecessors were. It was eventually certified Gold, but it lacked a hit single. Better Me Than You has the same problem with even more distance from Sean’s last hit. None of the three lead singles from the album charted on Billboard. Big Sean clearly had more of an album statement in mind, but it still stands to reason that a viral hit would have done a lot to boost his sales.

It’s also worth noting that rap albums have consistently underperformed in 2024. Unless your name is Travis Scott, you are struggling to sell records. Mustard way underperformed when he put out Faith of a Mustard Seed in July. He sold only 18K copies, despite having a stellar roster of guest stars and the after glow of a Kendrick Lamar-assisted number one. Mustard’s partner in crime, YG, fared even worse. Just Re’d Up 3 sold only 8K first week, which is massively down from the rapper usual Billboard numbers. It’s a rough patch that the genre hopefully gets out of.

Travis Scott’s “Days Before Rodeo” Could Have The Biggest Hip-Hop Debut Of 2024

Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo could end up being the most successful hip-hop album to debut on the Billboard 200 in 2024 as early projections for the rereleased project’s first-week sales continue to increase. According to HipHopAllDay, Days Before Rodeo is expected to sell closer to 300,000 units in the seven days following its release. The project originally dropped back in 2014, but to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Scott added it to streaming services while releasing a deluxe version that features guest appearances from Young Thug three times, Quavo, Playboi Carti, and Mike Dean.

Depending on where exactly Days Before Rodeo’s sales land, it could outrank the previous most successful hip-hop album, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). The Detroit legend dropped that effort back on July 12 and moved 281,000 album-equivalent units in the first week.

When DJ Akademiks shared the latest expectations on Instagram, fans in the comments had mixed reactions. One fan wrote: “He’d be bigger than Drake if that Astro world tragedy didn’t happen, only rapper selling out stadium’s & performing for 80k people imagine what he’d be doing if that didn’t slow down his momentum.” Others were more critical of the way he’s been earning pure sales. “Anyone with a brain knows this is bc his clothes are hot right now lol,” one user argued. “These are t shirt bundle sales [laughing emoji]. Album did 20k from streaming numbers. Its all fugazi.”

Travis Scott’s “Days Before Rodeo” Continues To Dominate

In addition to fans criticizing Scott, Sabrina Carpenter, who is also competing for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with Short n’ Sweet, tweeted, “this one’s for nicki,” last week. She appeared to be referring Scott beating out Minaj in 2018 as his album, Astroworld, competed with her album, Queen. Be on the lookout for further updates on Travis Scott on HotNewHipHop.

Ice Spice’s Tragic “Y2K” First Week Sales Projections Leave Fans Stunned

Following months of teasing, Ice Spice finally unleashed her debut album last week, Y2K. It boasts features from the likes of Gunna, Central Cee, and Travis Scott. Unfortunately, while the project had a ton of potential, many feel like it left a lot to be desired. Some were even quick to dub it the worst project of the year. That’s clearly up for debate, as the Bronx-born baddie arguably delivered at least a couple of bangers. Either way, the album’s commercial performance has been less than impressive.

According to Hits Daily Double, Y2K is on track to move 20k units in its first week. Social media users agree that this number is shockingly low, even considering all of the criticism surrounding the project. As a result, X users are now clowning the “Deli” rapper, and comparing her performance to that of peers like JT, Latto, and more.

Y2K On Track To Sell 20K Its First Week

Social media users are also speculating what could have caused the apparent drop-off. Some think it could be related to her shady comments about Nicki Minaj or other beef. Others also think she should change up her sound, and argue that listeners are simply getting bored. Luckily, not everyone has something bad to say about Y2K, as Pitchfork recently gave it a controversially high rating. The publication rated it 7.6 out of 10, the highest rating they’ve given a mainstream rap tape all year.

With that being said, many other critics have ripped the album to shreds. The same can be said for a new bonus track she unveiled today, “GYAT,” which has also elicited lukewarm reactions from listeners. What do you think of Ice Spice’s new album Y2K? What about it being on track to sell 20k units in its first week? Are you surprised or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Megan Thee Stallion “HISS” On Pace For No. 1 Debut

Megan Thee Stallion is in full rollout mode with a new album and tour on the way, and that always involves a lead single to get fans excited, prepared -– and streaming. Moreover, despite the quality behind the under-appreciated “Cobra,” it seems like “HISS” will serve this purpose quite well for her when it comes to both how it’s resonated with fans and with commercial metrics. According to Chart Data on Twitter, the Houston rapper could land a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 if its numbers continue on the pace they are at as of writing this article. While the report doesn’t indicate a particular number, Billboard themselves reported that the song continues to grow and garner more and more streams.

As such, Megan Thee Stallion could potentially have her first-ever No. 1 debuting song as a solo artist. This would be a great start to this new phase of her career, and would also lay the foundation for more buzz and promotion from a purely commercial standpoint. But the 28-year-old still impresses with blazing flows, combative energy, and some really sharp lines to contrast her previously measured and emotional single. What she needs to keep up is this sense of dynamism and freshness with each cut, and we’ll have a great project and lead-up to cherish in 2024.

Megan Thee Stallion Is On Track For Her First Solo Number One Hit

However, the “Hot Girl” continues to face a lot of scrutiny and backlash from some rap corners in the game, albeit not many. For example, Wack 100 recently claimed that there is a video of Tory Lanez’s shooting of her that proves that she is lying, and that this incident didn’t happen at all between them. Many fans debated the veracity of this on social media, given that there is no evidence of this clip. Some believe the prosecution and court suppressed it in Lanez’s trial, whereas others expressed shock at how fans continue to challenge the conviction.

Meanwhile, on the topic of conflict, Nicki Minaj’s response track “Big Foot” is also performing well commercially. It played at some big events, broke streaming records for hip-hop in 2024, and made a big splash on arrival in other ways. No matter which song you think is better, this success can only set the bar for their future work, and only they can capitalize on it. On that note, come back to HNHH for more news and the latest updates on Megan Thee Stallion.

“Pink Friday 2” Projected To Top Album Chart, Breaks Spotify Record For Female Hip-Hop

Pink Friday 2 is expected to debut at No. 1 when it becomes chart-eligible next week. According to HDD, the album’s first-week projections currently sit at a very strong 170,000-190,000 units. That should be more than enough to see Pink Friday 2 jump right to the top of the Billboard chart. If that becomes the case, it will be Nicki Minaj’s first No. 1 album since Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in 2012. Both The Pinkprint and Queen peaked at No. 2 in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Furthermore, per Chart Data on X, Pink Friday 2 has broken Spotify’s record for a female hip-hop debut on the platform. The album is also currently at No. 1 on Apple Music’s real-time chart. The previous record was held by a pair of Doja Cat albums – Scarlet and Planet Her. The Barbz, of course, are absolutely over the moon about the success of Pink Friday 2.

Nicki Minaj Thanks J. Cole For Pink Friday 2 Collab

Meanwhile, Minaj herself took to social media to personally thank J. Cole for collaborating on “Let Me Calm Down”. “This man J. Cole had a 2 hour talk with me. 2. Two!!!! Didn’t realize I was sitting on a therapist couch but ummm😩2 days later I heard this verse & couldn’t stop crying,” Minaj began her post. “In a world where we know EXACTLY how & WHEN to tear each other apart, there are still Kings & Queens who know how to put ppl back together. Patch them up. Heal them. Empower them. Understand them. Listen to them. Make them do the most beautiful thing a human being can do,” she continued.

Furthermore, she also highlighted how the verse reminded her of the first time that her son smiled at her. “After having #papabear I couldn’t wait for the day he’d smile @ me. First smile? It was one day when I blew a kiss @ him. I said “papa mmuuuaahhhhh!!!!” then? Time froze. Froze. He smiled? He smiled. At Me? Looking directly in my eyes? Yes. Me? Held back the tears & just kept doing a billion more times. I cried later,” Minaj noted. Be sure to read her full post below.

Chris Brown’s “11:11” First Week Sales Predictions

Chris Brown has had a long and extremely successful career, that is no secret. His hits are plentiful and he is a true established veteran in the R&B genre. He is now 11 albums deep which is a feat not many artists can say they have. That project ironically is called 11:11. The original plan for the record was for it to drop on November 11 as well, really committing to the bit. However, it was not much of a surprise when Breezy decided to drop it a day early, which was a Friday.

In hindsight, it was probably the right move, especially with a lot of other major artists dropping on that day. He would be a day behind and some people might not have known that someone had dropped on Saturday. However, Brown’s new album might not have been good enough regardless. As of now, only one track is gaining some traction. That is one of the lead singles, “Sensational,” with Davido and Lojay. Currently, it sits at nearly 10 million streams on Spotify.

Listen To 11:11 By Chris Brown

Even for some major artists like Brown, hip-hop and R&B tapes have not been performing well this year. That could be for a lot of reasons. But, hopefully, next year will see a bit of a resurgence. Chris is looking at a top 15 debut on the Billboard chart according to HipHopNMore and HitsDailyDouble. For sales, it looks like he will score around $40,000 with 8,000 of those being pure sales.

What are your initial thoughts on Chris Brown’s first-week sales projections? Do you think these numbers are shockingly low, or just right? Which songs from this tape are still in your rotation? We would like to know what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section. Bad Bunny’s First Week Sales Projections Suggest No. 1 Debut For “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Manana”

When Bad Bunny last surprised us with an album, Un Verano Sin Ti, the Latin rapper went on to break records for weeks to follow. His work was constantly resurfacing on Billboard‘s charts, beating out other rappers and singers thanks to the infectious vibe he curated on that LP. At the time, Benito managed to sell 328M copies in his first week out, solidifying his status as one of the biggest commercial artists in the industry at this time.

After dropping off his latest project, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Manana on Friday (October 13) with just a few days’ notice, Hits Daily Double has shared their first week sales projections for the 22-song effort. According to the outlet, Bunny’s album will move anywhere from 200 – 225K copies in the days immediately after dropping, which obviously marks a decline from his 2022 release. Nevertheless, the “Tarot” artist will likely outsell Drake’s For All The Dogs as it continues to amass streams during its second week out.

Bad Bunny Could Take No. 1 on the Charts

As we previously reported, the Canadian achieved the seventh-largest opening day in Spotify history with his R&B-centric LP. Bunny’s Nadie Sabe also made waves on the platform with his surprise drop becoming the “most-streamed album in a single day in 2023 so far.” It was a slow start to the year in terms of No. 1 rap albums, so seeing both Drake and his “Gently” collaborator continuing to push boundaries has been exciting for hip-hop heads.

Bad Bunny brought plenty to the table in terms of his new album, but what’s really got social media talking are his apparent references to his sex life with Kendall Jenner, as well as his name-drop of J Balvin on “THUNDER Y LIGHTNING.” Seeing as the latter duo has collaborated in the past, the Colombian was left surprised by Benito’s apparent diss. Read what he had to say at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Rod Wave’s First-Week Sale Projections For “Nostalgia” Are Impressive

Florida trap-soul rapper Rod Wave is projected to have a big first week debut. He recently released his album Nostalgia and it included 18 tracks of pure vibes. With just three features total throughout the project, including 21 Savage as the biggest one, Rod Wave’s project is among some of the biggest first-week sales projections we’ve seen in a while. According to a post by DJ Akademiks shared yesterday (Sept. 19), “Rod Wave ‘Nostalgia’ [is] on pace to sell 133K first week.” Fans responded, “We’ll deserved needs more! Great album timeless.” “Great music still sells,” another said. “Rod Wave new album is heat,” someone else wrote.

According to HitsDailyDouble, it was reported last week that Nostalgia was projected to sell between 130K and 140K copies in its first week of release. This isn’t exactly a new feat for Rod Wave, as his extremely dedicated and loyal fan base supports every release of his. In fact, his previous 2022 album, Beautiful Mind, earned first-week sales of 115K copies along with a top slot on the charts. Additionally, he previously achieved chart-topping success on the Billboard 200 with his albums SoulFly in 2021. Additionally, he secured a place in the Top 10 with Ghetto Gospel in 2019 and Jupiter’s Diary: 7 Day Theory EP in 2022.

Rod Wave Could Outperform Majority Of Projects This Year

These projections would make Nostalgia “the third-biggest rap debut of 2023.” Taking the first and second spots include Lil Uzi’s The Pink Tape, and Travis Scott’s UTOPIA, respectively. A well-earned effort, Rod Wave’s signature approach and sound are to credit for this high first-week projection. He caters to a niche audience — people who enjoy singing pain music with heartfelt emotions over moody beats. But, Wave did get creative with his music and experimented with new sounds.

As previously reported, Rod Wave shared that the track “Crazy,” which is featured on Nostalgia, includes sampled elements from Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun.” “So all my music, I try to just shed light on my background and what made me who I am, the reason I’m this kind of artist, the reason I’m who I am,” Rod Wave shared during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily Radio show. “So I always try to just shed light on that. Just the way [Paramore’s Hayley Williams] painting a picture vividly gives you both sides of the good and the bad.” Stay tuned for official first week numbers on HNHH.
