On this date in 1999, rap phenomenon DMX released his third studio effort entitled …And Then There Was X on the Def Jam/Ruff Ryders imprint. With production from the likes of Harlem trendsetter Dame Grease, Swizz Beatz, and of course the Ruff Ryders’ generals Dee and Waah, this timeless classic went five-time platinum within a year and received a Grammy nod for Best Rap Album in 2001. It has been X’s best-selling album to date.

The sophomore single, which eventually catapulted to the album’s lead single, “Party Up (Up In Here), received the most acclaim, peaking at #27 on Billboard Hot 100, and was featured in several silver screen classics such as How High, Gone In 60 Seconds and Ghostbusters. The third, R&B-driven track, “What These Bitches Want?” featuring Sisqo, was one of the biggest hits in DMX’s career, which was a true-to-life confession of the women in his life.

Shout out to X, Dee, Waah, Swizz, Dame Grease, and the rest of Ruff Ryders squad who came together to bring us this piece of Hip Hop history!

SOURCE SPORTS: Former HBCU Baseballer Brandon Rembert Hopes To Inspire Others With Career In MLB

0 1

Brandon Rembert, born and raised in Pensacola, FL, is a former standout college baseball player for HBCU Alcorn State University.  Located in Lorman, Mississippi, Alcorn State was the college home to noteworthy individuals such as the late former NFL quarterback Steve McNair and the late Academy Award-nominated actor Michal Clarke Duncan.  Brandon Rembert has hopes to humbly add his name to the list of notable Alcorn alumnus that have brought notoriety and honor to the university, but by way of a professional baseball career. However, his career won’t be on the baseball diamond as an athlete as some might assume, but actually on the other side of the industry.

Rembert has served the last 2 years as a Minor League Baseball Operations Assistant for the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization of Major League Baseball, working in the Coaching and Player Development department. His first year with the organization was spent in the Dominican Republic at the Pirates’ Dominican Academy and his second working with the Pirates’ low-A affiliate in Bradenton, FL. Brandon got his big break with the Pirates in February of 2022, after a college baseball career that was filled with twists and turns. Rembert previously yearned for a career in professional baseball as an athlete, but a series of events set him onto a different pathway into professional baseball. Rembert was fortunate enough to have a taste of athletic success, being named to the Pre-season All-Conference 1st Team in 2020 and 2021, while also being named a top 10 HBCU MLB Draft Prospect by Black College Nines.

Rembert had big dreams of playing at the next level and felt like those goals were finally within reach, that is until he suffered a significant injury in the pre-season of 2021, which sidelined him for most of his final baseball season. His dream of being in professional baseball was resurrected when the Pittsburgh Pirates came knocking at Rembert’s door in 2022 and offered him a job.

Now, finishing up his second season with the Pirates, Brandon Rembert hopes to be of encouragement to others that one’s route to their dream may not always look how they drew it up to be, but will work out if they stay the course. He also wants to serve as inspiration to other HBCU students and African Americans that want to work within the professional sports industry as well. Rembert wants his journey to be a spark plug for others to see that they are ultimately capable of achieving their dreams, whatever they may be. He wants individuals to know that people from any school, background, or ethnicity can see their dreams come to fruition if they put in the work. Rembert will now be transitioning into the Amateur Scouting Department as a Development Scout and hopes to continue his climb within professional baseball. He hopes to set the standard of what an HBCU grad can ultimately achieve.

YaYa Mayweather Blames NBA Youngboy’s Security Team for Stabbing Incident

yaya

Floyd Mayweather’s daughter, Iyanna ‘YaYa’ Mayweather, finds herself entangled in a legal battle stemming from a 2020 incident where she was arrested for allegedly stabbing Lapattra Lashai Jacobs, the mother of rapper NBA Youngboy’s child. As the lawsuit unfolds, YaYa is defending herself by redirecting blame towards NBA Youngboy’s 24-hour security team, claiming they failed to intervene during the altercation.

According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, YaYa and her legal team are disputing the case brought forth by Lapattra, who seeks damages for the alleged assault that took place at NBA Youngboy’s Texas residence.

The incident dates back to 2020 when YaYa arrived at NBA Youngboy’s home to find him socializing with Lapattra. The encounter escalated into a physical altercation between the two women, during which YaYa reportedly brandished knives. Consequently, YaYa was arrested and later sentenced to six years’ probation.

In response to the civil lawsuit filed by Lapattra, YaYa has now turned the spotlight on NBA Youngboy and the alleged dynamics of their relationships. In her recent filing, YaYa claims that NBA Youngboy was involved with both her and Lapattra simultaneously, a fact she was unaware of at the time.

On April 3rd, 2020, YaYa asserts that both women were inside NBA Youngboy’s residence, completely oblivious to each other’s presence due to the rapper’s alleged efforts to keep them in separate parts of the house. YaYa contends that NBA Youngboy maintained multiple security teams on-site, each tasked with providing 24-hour security.

In a bold move, Floyd Mayweather’s daughter demands that the security guards be added as third-party defendants in the lawsuit. She alleges that despite the security teams being aware of the simultaneous presence of both women, they took no action to alert or separate them, nor did they intervene during the altercation.

YaYa’s legal strategy aims to shift responsibility from her actions to the security personnel present at NBA Youngboy’s residence during the incident. The lawsuit continues to unravel, bringing to light the complexities of personal relationships and the legal consequences that follow when they turn tumultuous.

One of the most infamous graffiti artists of the 20th century is celebrating his 55th born day today, and he goes by the name of COPE2, founder of the world-famous KINGS DESTROY crew.

Born Fernando Carlo on this date in 1968 in the Bronx, New York, COPE2 began his illustrious graff career in 1985, during the height of the crack era in the Kingsbridge section of his home borough. He picked up his throw up from graffiti bad guy CAP ONE MPC and the rest is history.

COPE’s work can now be found internationally in art galleries for tens of thousands of dollars, but with the game deeply embedded in his heart, you can still find some of his work somewhere in the Rotten Apple rockin’ on the walls.

Happy born day to COPE from the entire Mind Squad!
