Q Lazzarus, The Mysterious Singer Whose Songs Appeared In Films Like ‘The Silence Of The Lambs,’ Has Passed Away At 61

Q Lazzrus, the enigmatic singer whose songs appeared in multiple iconic Jonathan Demme movies, has passed away following a short illness. She was 61.

Born Diane Luckey, the singer had one of the great discovery stories. As the tale goes, after struggling to get a record deal during the ‘80s — made worse by racist reactions within the industry to her dreadlocks — she was driving a cab when she happened to pick up acclaimed filmmaker Jonathan Demme. She asked Demme if he was in the music industry. He was, sort of, having made one of the great concert movies. Then she played him a demo of the song “Candle Goes Away.”

Demme was blown away, and he put the song in his 1986 classic Something Wild. A few years later he did the same to “Goodbye Horses,” which prominently featured in a memorable scene from The Silence of the Lambs, where Ted Levine’s serial killer Buffalo Bill applies makeup. For his next movie, Philadelphia, Demme enlisted her to cover the Talking Heads song “Heaven.”

Luckey disappeared in the ‘90s, and rumors floated about what became of her. In 2017, the world finally got an answer. As per Stereogum, a musician hoping to cover “Goodbye Horses” tweeted about trying to locate her — only to get a response from Luckey herself. She said she’d lost interest in singing and was driving a bus in Staten Island.

Luckey is survived by her husband, her son and daughter, and several family members. You can watch the original video for “Goodbye Horses” above, but also make sure to check out the equally haunting demo version.

‘The Breakfast Club’ Might Be Over, According To An Ominous Tweet From Angela Yee

The Breakfast Club is a popular New York-based hip-hop podcast hosted by Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God, and DJ Envy. It’s been drawing in a large audience since its inception in 2010, but now it seems like something is going to change.

Yee made an ominous tweet on Tuesday, writing, “The breakfast club as you know it is officially over.” Closing the post with the emoji of hands making a heart makes it less eerie, but fans are wondering what this means about the future of the show. Whether The Breakfast Club is ending or just making changes is unclear.

The Breakfast Club has not been without drama. Earlier this year, DaBaby used his time on their platform to defend himself from accusations of homophobia. “I didn’t mean what you think I meant,” he said. “What you want me to do? Go look myself in the mirror and say, ‘You don’t like gay people?’ Nah. I’m not trippin’ on gay people at all. If I said what I said to get people to raise they cell phones and it was misinterpreted by people who watch a five-second clip at home. You not supposed to understand what’s going on. You could raise your cell phone if you wanted to. You ain’t supposed to be able to digest a clip that’s been altered and shortened with a narrative to go along with it, with enough people driving it, it gonna do what it do.”

Pete Davidson Reportedly Sought Trauma Therapy Following Kanye West’s Online Harrassment

Following a very public break-up with Kim Kardashian, Pete Davidson received some not so kind words from Kardashian’s ex-husband, Kanye West. In a since-deleted Instagram post, West shared a mock-up of a fake New York Times front page, which read, “Skete Davidson Dead At Age 28.” This wasn’t the first time West expressed disdain toward Davidson while Davidson and Kardashian were dating: In a video for “Eazy,” a song by The Game on which Ye is featured, West kidnapped and buried an animated version of the comedian. He has also made several violent threats to Davidson numerous times on social media over the past few months.

A source close to Davidson spoke with People and revealed that since April of this year, Davidson has “has been in trauma therapy in large part” due to posts by West.

“The attention and negativity coming from Kanye and his antics is a trigger for [Pete], and he’s had to seek out help,” the source said.

The source also noted that since the breakup with Kardashian, Davidson “has no regrets for dating Kim and wants it to be made very clear that she’s been nothing but supportive of him throughout their relationship.”

“Moving forward, he just wants to focus on his career,” the source said.

Idris Elba Details How He ‘Hustled His Way Onto’ Jay-Z’s ‘American Gangster’ Album

Idris Elba makes a memorable appearance on Jay-Z’s 2007 album American Gangster, speaking on and producing “Intro.” Now Elba has spoken a bit more about how that came to be, telling Jimmy Fallon he “hustled [his] way onto” the album

On The Tonight Show yesterday, Elba (who was in the American Gangster movie on which the album was based) said:

“I was in American Gangster and at the time, I heard Jay was about to do an album associated with the film and I was like, ‘I need to get on that.’ As you do. You’re like, ‘I’m Idris, I need to be on that Jay-Z album!’ I had no idea why Jay would be like, ‘Yeah, sure, do it.’ So Lenny S., who works with Jay, was a good friend of Oronde and Oronde’s my guy, and I said, ‘Yo, I’m gonna write this thing.’ And I wrote this long poem… a friend of mine, we wrote this long poem, we put it to a beat. Actually, it was a rap, but it didn’t sound good as a rap. […] I said, ‘Maybe I should speak this,’ because Jay might be a little more accommodating to my speaking voice. And I sent it to him and we got this text back from Jay saying, ‘I don’t love this… I f*cking love it.”

“I am SO saddened at the news of the passing of Olivia Newton John,” tweeted Marlee Matlin. “I remember being so star struck when I met her at my first Hollywood gathering for Paramount. Kim Kardashian Reportedly Demands Kanye West Take Down His Pete Davidson Breakup Post But He’s Refusing

Following this weekend’s news of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson’s breakup after a nine-month relationship, Kanye West is in celebration mode: This morning, he shared a fake New York Times headline that reads, “Skete Davidson Dead At Age 28.”

It would seem Kardashian is far from amused.

A “source close to” Kardashian reportedly told The Daily Mail, “Kim won’t stand for this. She is demanding that Kanye take the post down, but he won’t. She has been vigorously defending Pete. She’ll never get back together with Kanye over the way he’s treated the people she loves and respects. She has tried incredibly hard to have a good co-parenting situation for the children. She won’t stand for this type of behavior from him.”

Kardashian has yet to offer a public comment of her own about the post.

This isn’t the first time she has addressed Ye’s behavior in recent months: On a May episode of The Kardashians, she said to her family, “I do recognize the impact that my relationship has had on my family, and I’ve never had the opportunity to just say: I’m sorry, guys.” Later, though, she did share a Father’s Day tribute for West, writing, “Thank you for being the best dad to our babies and loving them the way you do! Happy Father’s Day Ye.”

Kanye West Declares Pete Davidson Dead After His Kim Kardashian Breakup

Fans of celebrity relationships had a loss to mourn a couple days ago, when it was revealed that Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian had broken up after nine months of dating. Now, Kanye West has decided to take the mourning a little more literally with his celebration of the relationship’s end.

On Instagram this morning, Ye shared a fake front page of The New York Times, which features mostly just a giant headline reading, “Skete Davidson Dead At Age 28,” with “Skete” being the nickname West has used with Davidson since the start of his and Kardashian’s romance. Below the headline is a subhead, a jab at Ye’s former collaborator and Davidson’s current friend, Kid Cudi: “Kid Cudi meant to play funeral but fearful of bottle throwers.” That’s a clear reference to Cudi’s recent performance at Rolling Loud, which he ended early after audience members repeatedly threw things at him on stage.

West has made it clear on many occasions that he’s not a fan of Davidson and his relationship with his ex-wife. He perhaps most notably showed that with a video for “Eazy,” in which an animated Davidson gets kidnapped and buried. If that was intended as an intimidation tactic, it didn’t seem to work, as Davidson apparently thought it was pretty funny.

Welp, Pete Davidson And Kim Kardashian Have Broken Up After Nine Months (Though His Tattoos May Last Forever)

Pete Davidson gets around, which may surprise men more than women. But for the last months, he’s been in a committed — and sometimes turbulent — relationship with one person: Kim Kardashian. The SNL vet and socialite/businesswoman began dating last October, though they only made their red carpet debut in May. But now, as per CNN, the two have called it quits.

Sources say the reason was simple: their schedules and locations haven’t always lined up, and the friction was apparently such that they have decided to part ways. They met, appropriately enough, at his workplace. “I did ‘SNL,’ and then when we kissed in the scene, it was just a vibe,” she once revealed on her Hulu show.

Their relationship was a bumpy one, though through no fault of their own. It was usually Kardashian’s ex-husband, Kanye West. Their divorce was finalized this March, and he made a point of repeatedly intruding on their lives, attempting to make Davidson’s life hell. Davidson often did the smart thing, which is to say he did nothing. Occasionally he fought back, albeit in the form of jokes and a bit of trolling.

Davidson has long been a prolific fan of tattoos, some of which he’s gotten removed. What he’ll do with his Kardashian tattoos remains to be seen, though a lot of people had jokes on that matter.

In any case, pour one out for Pete and Kim.

John Legend And Chrissy Teigen Are Expecting A Third Child

Currently, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have two kids, Luna and Miles. Teigen just revealed, though, that soon, they’ll be adding a third.

In an Instagram post shared yesterday, Teigan dropped photos of her baby bump and wrote, “the last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again. 1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way. Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still. I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I’m feeling hopeful and amazing. Ok phew it’s been very hard keeping this in for so long!”

This comes after the couple previously revealed in August 2020 that they were expecting a child, via Legend’s video for “Wild.” That October, though, Teigen revealed the tragic news that they had lost the baby, writing in part, “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough. […] To our Jack — I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”

Since Beyonce’s Already Updating Controversial Lyrics, Monica Lewinsky Has A Request, Too

Ahh, the 1990s. That’s probably not something that Monica Lewinsky says to herself very often. And she may have consulted on the scripts for America Crime Story: Impeachment (another Ryan Murphy production), but that doesn’t mean that she enjoys constant references to the most infamous occurrence within her time in the public sphere. You know what I’m talking about, of course.

The infamous Bill Clinton dress regularly gets shouted out by pop culture, and Beyonce went there with 2013’s “Partition,” which specifically contained these lyrics: “He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown.” After that: “Oh, there daddy, daddy didn’t bring the towel.”

That’s quite the visual, obviously. Since Beyonce’s new Renaissance album has been catching some scattered heat from various places (including Fox News, which called the singer “vile”), and Beyonce has apparently removed an ableist term from her lyrics, Monica caught wind and decided to mention those decade-old lyrics that still cause her to take umbrage: “[U]hmm, while we’re at it… #Partition,” Lewinsky tweeted.

There’s been no word from camp Bey on this issue, although it’s safe to say that Beyonce’s probably pretty busy at the moment. She currently appears to be updating the album to delete a contested Kelis sample, but hang tight. If Beyonce decides to move on Monica’s request, we’ll surely hear about it.
