Lil Baby Disses Gunna During “Drip Too Hard” Performance: “F**k The Rats”

The YSL RICO trial has been giving us regular updates on Young Thug and his co-defendants from their Georgia courtroom, though we still don’t have answers on how the So Much Fun artist feels about his frequent collaborator, Gunna. His BUSINESS IS BUSINESS album includes some shady bars at the 30-year-old, but according to Thugger’s father, Jeffrey Williams’ family has no issues with the lyricist. Many major players in the industry made it known that Gunna isn’t in their social circle anymore, either by unfollowing him on social media or even publicly accusing him of snitching.

Lil Baby is one artist who’s been shading the “fukumean” hitmaker with reckless abandon, even throwing up the YSL symbol while spitting bars about rats earlier this fall. Before that, the father of two went viral when an unreleased snippet hit the internet, including lyrics that appear to reference Gunna’s plea deal. “Some ni**as taking pleas at trial / I know Slime ain’t happy,” Baby spits on the song, hinting that Thug didn’t approve of is “Hot” collaborator’s legal move.

Lil Baby Seemingly Fuels Gunna Feud

At a recent concert, Baby took things to a new level, appearing to call Wunna a “rat” when their hit single, “Drip Too Hard” came on. “F**k the rats, turn this s**t off,” the Southern star yelled as lights flashed and smoke filled the venue. It’s been a minute since the artists unfollowed each other on Instagram, but now that the YSL RICO trial is underway, it seems the My Turn artist wants to make his support for Thugger felt.

Gunna’s comeback from jail was anything but easy, despite the Atlanta-based artist finally having his freedom back. Luckily, he’s become a pro at ignoring the negativity and criticism in favour of focusing on his personal growth, as well as his new relationship. Gunna And Lil Baby’s 2018 Hit ‘Drip Too Hard’ Goes Diamond

It has only been four years since rising Atlanta rappers Gunna and Lil Baby joined forces to drop their joint album Drip Harder, which arguably helped make them both bonafide rap stars, if not household names. Yet, in those short years, the lead single from the project, “Drip Too Hard,” has reached a high watermark fewer than 100 other songs have ever achieved: receiving a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Diamond certification marks ten million equivalent units sold. For digital awards, a unit is defined as a digital download or 150 streams.

In the history of the RIAA’s 70-year existence, only 86 songs had reached this mark before “Drip Too Hard.” Included on that list are all-time favorites like Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” certified in January this year, “Thriller,” certified in August, and “Candle In The Wind” by Elton John. Rappers who’ve made the list include Eminem, whose 2010 single “Not Afraid” reached DIamond in June 2014, Wiz Khalifa (“See You Again,” 2019), Drake (“God’s Plan,” 2019), and Lil Nas X, whose debut single “Old Town Road” was mistakenly reported Diamond-certified less than a year after its release and later actually crossed the finish line in January 2021.

Unfortunately, only one of the two is free to celebrate their remarkable achievement. Gunna remains imprisoned, awaiting trial as he and Young Thug are accused of racketeering and other criminal activity. Meanwhile, Lil Baby is preparing the release of his third studio album, It’s Only Me, which is coming in October.

Lil Baby has snagged the rare RIAA Diamond certification for the 2018 hit song “Drip Too Hard,” created alongside Gunna. With only 85 other songs in history having gained the prestigious accreditation, Lil Baby’s placement among the elite of music is solidified by this distinction. This is the most recent in a string of extraordinary achievements for Lil Baby, and it occurs before the release of his recently announced and eagerly awaited album It’s Only Me.

“Drip Too Hard” was a key sign of Lil Baby’s star power. The song has accumulated a long list of achievements, including a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song/Sung Performance, a peak position of #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first number-one song on Urban Radio in 2019, and the most played song in the format that year, a US radio audience of over 1 billion listeners, 345 million views of the music video, and over 4 billion streams globally to date.

The announcement comes immediately after the last performance of Lil Baby and Chris Brown’s North American One Of Them Ones tour and “Do We Have A Problem” with Nicki Minaj winning the MTV VMA for Best Hip Hop. Baby just celebrated the debut of his new documentary, Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, which was another significant accomplishment. The documentary, which debuted on Amazon Prime Video on August 26th, offers a close-up look at his early years before his sudden metamorphosis into one of hip-most hop’s elite.
