Barack Obama Stamps Harris, Slights Trump in Riveting DNC Speech

Former president Barack Obama had time. Returning to his hometown of Chicago to speak at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Obama had two objectives in his evening closing speech: endorse Kamala Harris and tell the truth about Donald Trump.

Taking the stage in the local 10 p.m. hour on Tuesday night, Obama’s support of Harris was loud and clear: “America is ready for a new chapter. America’s ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris.”

Throughout his speech, Obama laid out the support for his Harris-Walz ticket as figures who align with the country’s future. He also laid into Donald Trump, a “78-year-old billionaire who has not stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago.” Obama highlighted Trump’s behavior is getting worse, citing the former president’s affinity for name-calling and obsession with crowd sizes.

You can hear every moment of Obama’s speech below.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Plays During Gavin Newsom’s DNC Speech

Gavin Newsom is the Governor of California, and Kendrick Lamar is the King of Compton. Newsom is aware of the iconography and the popularity that Lamar wields. Especially after he managed to defeat Toronto superstar Drake in a battle. Unsurprisingly, Gavin Newsom decided to utilize the Lamar aura during his appearance at the Democratic National Convention. The Governor gave an impassioned speech in support of Presidential nominee Kamala Harris. During Newsom’s speech, Lamar’s smash single “Not Like Us” can be heard playing in the background.

The juxtaposition of Lamar’s anthem with Newsom’s rhetoric is jarring, to say the least. The Governor is flanked by Nancy Pelosi while pontificating on the rise of Kamala Harris. All the while, Lamar’s disrespect anthem rings off. It’s somewhat comical. Gavin Newsom praises Harris’ handling of economic, social and racial justice, as well as her time as attorney general. “I saw that star get even brighter,” he asserted. “As attorney general of California, as a United States Senator, and as Vice President.” The practice of utilizing hip-hop to bolster political speeches is nothing new, of course. Earlier in the roll call, Georgia brought out Lil Jon to perform a medley of his biggest hits.

Gavin Newsom Has Repeatedly Referenced K. Dot

Gavin Newsom has a long history of praising and aligning himself with Kendrick Lamar. At least, when it comes to the music. He quoted the Compton rapper when he was elected Governor of California back in 2018. “You know, that great California poet by the name of Kendrick Lamar,” he said during his victory speech. “He once said, ‘Be humble.’” The line, of course, being a reference to Dot’s smash 2017 single “Humble.” More recently, Gavin Newsom used Lamar as an example of the talent that comes from the Golden State. He noted that California is a place where musical artists as disparate as Kendrick Lamar and Metallica can find success during a June 2024 speech.

Kendrick Lamar has not reciprocated the love. The Compton rapper has not commented on Gavin Newsom or Kamala Harris. Despite this reluctance to endorse a political figure, politicians continue to line up to award Lamar. California State Senator Isadore Hall III awarded Lamar the mantle of district “Generational Icon” in 2015. The award was meant to signify the massive impact that the rapper has made on the West Coast and Compton in particular.

Nelly’s “Hot In Herre” Used To Diss Donald Trump During DNC: Watch

The Democratic National Convention had jokes. There were lots of puns and subtle jabs, and not so subtle jabs. All of them were at the expense of Donald Trump. Steve Kerr utilized Steph Curry’s iconic “Night Night” gesture to inform Trump that his campaign was over. A less expected diss, however, came from United Automobile Workers President Shawn Fain. Fain stepped to the stage before removing his jacket and quoting the iconic Nelly single “Hot In Herre.” He not only dropped the title of the song, but referred to the St. Louis rapper as an “American poet.”

Shawn Fain has been a long time supporter of Kamala Harris. His opposition to Donald Trump is not a surprise by any means. What was surprising was the way Fain chose to showcase his disdain. Rather than state the obvious, the UAW President decided to go the comedic route. He removed his jacket to reveal a graphic t-shirt with the text: “Trump is a scab.” The Nelly reference came about as an excuse to remove the jacket. “In the words of the great American poet Nelly,” Fain stated. “It’s getting hot in here.” The shirt (and the quote) drew raucous applause from the DNC audience.

Nelly Criticized Donald Trump’s Presidential Run In 2017

Nelly has actually given his own thoughts on Donald Trump in the past. He famously name dropped the President on his 2000 single “Rid Wit Me,” and told Page Six that he didn’t mind Trump as a celebrity. It was when Trump went into politics that the rapper had a problem. “He doesn’t surprise me as a person,” Nelly told the outlet. “He surprises me as a president because you don’t expect certain things, certain attitudes.” Nelly also lamented the fact that Trump’s politics made it undesirable for him to stay at the Trump Tower. “I’m more or less mad at him because I can’t stay at his hotels now,” the rapper quipped. “I’ve been staying there for 15 years, and now you pull this?”

Nelly has had his own problems as of late. The rapper was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant on August 8. There were reports that he was going to be charged with possession, due to the fact that four ecstasy pills were found on his person, but he was subsequently released. Nelly bounced back and was welcomed onstage at an MGK concert a few days later. Nelly performed “Air Force Ones” and MGK took time to praise the rapper for his impact on the culture. Not a bad welcome back after a jail stint.

Lil Jon Shocks Fans With Surprise Performance At DNC Roll Call: Watch

Rappers have come out of the woodwork to support Kamala Harris. She’s proven immensely talented with musicians, and day two of the Democratic National Convention bore this out. During the roll call on Tuesday, each U.S. state was introduced by a DJ. Said state would then announce how their delegates would cast their vote. When it came time for Georgia to be introduced, the DJ set turned into a full on performance from Lil Jon. The crunk legend emerged from the audience at the top of United Center Stadium and put on a wildly entertaining show for his home state.

Lil Jon performed his 2014 single “Turn Down for What.” He treated audience members to his signature “YEAHHHH!” catchphrase before turning his focus to Kamala Harris. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are here tonight to officially nominate Kamala Harris for president,” he explained. “We’re not going back!” If Lil Jon using his music to hype up Harris wasn’t enough, he did the same for Vice President nominee Tim Walz. Jon segued into a performance of his 2004 classic “Get Low,” and tweaked the lyrics to reference the VP hopeful’s last name. “To the windowwww,” he rapped. “To the Walz!”

Lil Jon Has Been Openly Critical Of Donald Trump

Lil Jon has been a longtime supporter of Kamala Harris. Interestingly enough, he also has a relationship with Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump. Lil Jon appeared on Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice show back in 2013. He did not enjoy his interactions with the future President. The ATL rapper confirmed that Trump called him “Uncle Tom” during the show’s production. “I addressed Trump immediately when we heard the comment,” Lil Jon explained in a 2016 statement. “I can’t say if he knew what he was actually saying or not. But he did stop using that term once we explained it’s (sic) offensiveness.”

Lil Jon went on to clarify that he does not support Trump’s policies as a politician. “I also want to be clear,” he concluded. “That I don’t agree with many of the statements Mr. Trump has said during his current run for President.” When a Twitter user asked the rapper to offer support for Trump’s second presidential campaign, his response could not have been more clear. “How about f*ck noooooo,” he wrote back.

Former MAGA Pundit Rich Logis Endorses Kamala Harris at DNC: “I Made a Grave Mistake”

Former MAGA Pundit Rich Logis Endorses Kamala Harris at DNC

Tonight, at the Democratic National Convention, a powerful video featured former MAGA pundit Rich Logis, who took a bold step by putting country over party to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking directly to Republicans and Independents across the nation, Logis shared his journey from being a staunch Trump supporter to realizing the damage caused by the former president’s leadership.

“My name is Rich Logis. I live in Florida, and until two years ago, I was a full-fledged member of MAGA. I believed Trump,” Logis admitted. As a former MAGA pundit with his own podcast, Logis described the fear that drove his support for Trump, believing that Democrats were destroying the country.

However, Logis explained that the pandemic was a turning point. “When the pandemic hit, we needed leadership, but we were given almost nothing. It was a major betrayal to the country,” he said. Disillusioned by Trump’s inaction and lies, Logis stepped out of the MAGA echo chamber and saw the truth for himself.

“Lying is Trump’s toxic superpower. He’s ripped apart families, communities, a whole country,” Logis emphasized. His message to fellow Republicans and Independents was clear: it’s never too late to change your mind. “You don’t need to agree with everything you hear tonight to do what is right. We need to be able to trust our leaders. That’s why I’m all in for Kamala Harris,” he concluded.

Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda Slammed at DNC: “It’s Worse Than You Think”

unnamed (1)

During night one at the Democratic National Convention, former President Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda was thrust into the spotlight as Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow and a new video unveiled just how extreme and dangerous Trump’s blueprint for a second term could be for the American people.

McMorrow delivered a stark warning about the agenda’s potential to dismantle American democracy. “Whatever you think it might be, it is so much worse,” she declared. Highlighting one key aspect of Project 2025, she accused Trump of aiming to transform the federal government into a personal regime, loyal only to him.

“They’re talking about replacing the entire federal government with an army of loyalists who answer only to Donald Trump,” McMorrow said, raising alarms about Trump’s plans to weaponize the Department of Justice and the FBI to target his political opponents.

“We believe in a government of the people, by the people, and for the people – not the government of Donald Trump, by Donald Trump, and for Donald Trump,” McMorrow emphasized. She stressed the importance of preserving the rule of law and the separation of powers that underpin American democracy.

Labor Unites Behind Harris-Walz Ticket at DNC

image

Union leaders from across the nation took center stage tonight at the Democratic National Convention to deliver a powerful message of solidarity: “Kamala Harris is one of us.” The labor movement is throwing its full support behind Vice President Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as they prepare for the 2024 election.

The speakers emphasized Harris’ unwavering commitment to workers’ rights, contrasting her record with that of former President Donald Trump, who they accused of weakening labor protections and prioritizing the wealthy. Union leaders highlighted Harris’ efforts to strengthen the middle class, protect jobs, and ensure fair wages and working conditions.

“Enter Joe Biden and Kamala Harris: Within weeks, they passed the American Rescue Plan, pulling the economy back from the brink and putting us back to work,” said Lee Saunders, President of AFSCME. “They were guided by a basic principle: more freedom for working people – including the freedom to join a union. So this November, we’re moving forward with Kamala Harris as our President.”

April Verrett, President fo SEIU added, “We are all in for Kamala Harris because Kamala Harris has always been all in for us… She shares our vision for a modern-day labor movement, a movement that meets the needs of workers in the 21st century and an economy that is ready for the future.”

Steve Kerr Uses Steph Curry’s “Night Night” To Diss Donald Trump At DNC

Steph Curry’s “Night Night” gesture has become one of the most iconic in sports. Curry has used it to tuck away his opponents for over a decade. It recently had a resurgence in popularity due to his stellar play during the Paris Olympics. Steve Kerr, Curry’s long time coach on the Golden State Warriors, spoke at the Democratic National Convention on August 19. The legendary player/coach made his opposition to Donald Trump very clear during his speech. The highlight, however, came when he utilized his player’s iconic move to dismiss Trump’s campaign.

Kerr has been an outspoken critic of Trump’s for years. He honed in on the former president’s lack of leadership skills during his speech. “I believe that leaders must display dignity,” he asserted. “I believe that leaders must tell the truth. [In] leaders must care for and love the people they are leading. I believe leaders must possess knowledge but with full awareness that none of us has all the answers.” Steve Kerr then put his hands to the side of his head, emulating Curry’s signature move, and said: “In the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump, ‘Night Night.’” The moment drew cheers from the audience.

Steve Kerr Has Openly Criticized Trump For Years

Steve Kerr also acknowledged the risks he took voicing his political stance, given his day job with the Warriors. “I can see the ‘shut up and whistle’ tweets being fired off right now,” he noted. “It was too important as an American citizen not to speak up in an election of this magnitude.” In a desire to bring both sides of the party line together, however, Curry pointed to the success of the recent Olympics teams. “Now imagine what we could do with all 350 million of us playing on the same team,” he said. “Not as Democrats. Not as Republicans, not as Libertarians. But as Americans.”

Steph Curry has not been as politically vocal as Steve Kerr, but he shares his coach’s view on Trump. He told Rolling Stone that Trump was a serious threat to the country and should be treated as such. “Most of his rhetoric,” Curry noted. “Before he was president, during his last four years, and even now, if he tries to run again — has a tone of divisiveness that doesn’t have a place in our country.” Only time will tell if the invocation of Curry’s “night night” moves proves prophetic.
