Stephen A. Smith Upset Over Demarcus Cousins Treatment

Stephen A. Smith is someone who is always entertaining whenever he gives his opinion on the latest big story. Overall, he is someone who has built a huge platform over at ESPN. Without him, the entire station would be in a much worse state than it is now. They owe him a lot of their success, and it’s cool to see Smith getting respect outside of the network. For instance, he recently got to speak to Paul George on his Podcast P show. It was here where they spoke on a plethora of NBA-related topics.

One such topic had to do with none other than Demarcus Cousins. As you may already know, Cousins is currently playing basketball in Puerto Rico. Overall, he has struggled to get a job in the NBA. Despite being an amazing player just a few years ago, he is out of the league. In Smith’s eyes, this is a great injustice. In the clip below, you can see the ESPN analyst delivering some great words of encouragement to Cousins.

“I look at a guy like DeMarcus Cousins. I don’t like the way he’s being treated,” Stephen A. said. “He got game bro. You know, and I’m not gonna rest . You’ve got people looking at me and he’s not a fit I’m like shut the hell up, DeMarcus Cousins right now would be a Top 5 big man in basketball, period.” While calling him top five might be a bit too much, this is still a great sentiment. DeMarcus Cousins Finds Second Wind In Puerto Rico

DeMarcus Cousins last played in the NBA in 2022. Across the 2021-22 season, Cousins played in 48 games in stints with the Bucks and Nuggets. However, the 32-year-old center was unable to find a team ahead of the 2022-23 season and began the new basketball year without a job.

Instead, Boogie took his talents to Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Joining partway through the 2023 season, people are starting to take notice of his play in the league. Highlight reels showing dominant play from the journeyman have gotten people wondering if the NBA is missing out on Cousins’ talent. Despite this, Cousins’ actual stats telling a slightly dimmer, but in still impressive, story.

Is Boogie Actually Dominating In Puerto Rico?

Despite the impressive video reels, is Boogie actually a god in the Puerto Rican league? In short – not really. At 12 games played this season, he barely qualifies for statistical acknowledgment. His 21.0 points per game is good enough for sixth in the league. NBA journeyman Brandon Knight currently leads the league with an average of 24.2 points across 25 games. Boogie fares a little better in terms of rebounds, with his 10.2 per game good enough for fourth in the league. However, that statistical category is led by two-NBA blocks leader Hassan Whiteside with an average of 14 rebounds across 25 games. Furthermore, Cousins is second in average turnovers, at 3.4 per game. Additionally, while Cousins’ team, Mets de Guaynabo, is on a five-game winning streak, they are still only fourth in the league standings.

So no, Boogie has not become a god amongst mortals in the Puerto Rican league. Granted, he is putting together a very impressive season but not league-leading. Furthermore, looking at an NBA comparison this season puts Boogie’s (12-game) stat line on par with a slightly worse shooting Julius Randle (25.1 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 4.1 apg). Randle, while a solid contributor, was by no means an MVP candidate this year. Another comparison, and one at Cousins’ position, would be Domantas Sabonis (19.1 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 7.3 apg). So, unfortunately, while Boogie’s Puerto Rico highlights are impressive, his actual stats take a little bit of the shine off the situation. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

DeMarcus Cousins Gives Anthony Davis Massive Praise

DeMarcus Cousins got to play a lot of great basketball with the likes of Anthony Davis. Although Cousins ultimately left New Orleans and bounced around the league, he and AD were solid together. Overall, Davis has certainly upgraded in terms of his career trajectory. He got out of New Orleans and immediately won an NBA title with LeBron James. Now, he is in the fight of his life against the Golden State Warriors. He has looked fantastic, and consequently, fans are seeing him as a top-five player again.

Recently, DeMarcus Cousins got to speak on AD and his play as of late. Although Cousins may not be in the league anymore, he still knows a lot about the game. Overall, he is someone who has always been complimentary of AD. On Tuesday morning, Cousins continued that trend while on Run It Back with Shams Charania. During the interview, Cousins went so far as to say that Davis is the best player in the league. Although, the caveat here is that Davis needs to stay healthy.

DeMarcus Cousins Speaks

“He’s probably the most talented two-way player to ever touch the floor. When he’s committed, and when his mind is focused and he’s in the right place, on any given night, he’s going to be the best player on the floor, on both ends,” DeMarcus Cousins said. “Just his versatility alone, we’ve praised his versatility since he’s stepped foot in the league. We know what he is on the defensive side of the ball. When he’s locked in and focused and also when his health is in a good place, he’s one of the best players to touch the floor.”

At this point, the Lakers could very well win the title if Davis continues on this trajectory. Sure, injuries have been an issue, but this is the postseason and he looks great right now. Moreover, he has been able to ease the pressure on LeBron James. Now, the Lakers are as balanced as ever, and they are showing the league what they can do. Let us know if you agree with Cousins, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates from around the sports world.

DeMarcus Cousins Set to Sign with Milwaukee Bucks

With the NBA Playoffs underway and his name not on a roster, DeMarcus Cousins is headed to Puerto Rico to play basketball. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Cousins will sign with the Guaynabo Mets for the Puerto Rican professional basketball league.

Cousins’ ambition is to create a path for himself back to the NBA in the fall. For his career Cousins averaged 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds for his career. He most recently had a workout with the Los Angeles Lakers after playing with the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021-22 season.

Instead of Cousins, the Lakers brought on Tristan Thompson to “shore up” their playoff roster.

Cousins has made headlines over the last couple of days of news. Speaking with Kevin Garnett on the KG CERTIFIED podcast, Cousins stated despite not being on a roster, he’s the third-best center in basketball.

“Right now, I’m the third-best center in the league,” Cousins said. “I mean, I’m a fan of the game. I’m always watching. I’m always enjoying these guys talents and things of that nature. But the game is just in a different place from my perspective.”

So the top two would be league MVP Nikola Jokic and Sixers MVP candidate Joel Embiid. After those names, you have Anthony Davis if you want to categorize him as a center instead of a power forward, “Punchin’” Rudy Gobert, Bam Adebayo in Miami, a walking triple-double in Domantas Sabonis who led the Sacramento Kings, the same franchise that drafted Cousins, to the playoffs for the first time in almost 20 years, Deandre Ayton in Phoenix, a monster defensive presence in Jarrett Allen in Cleveland, and a walking double every night in Chicago with Nikola Vucevic. Rank Cousins where you wish in that block, but it isn’t No. 3. You can hear it from him, though, below.

DeMarcus Cousins Signs With Puerto Rican Basketball League

DeMarcus Cousins isn’t finished with his playing career. The former NBA big man has decided to take his talents to Puerto Rico. Cousins has signed with the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League. Cousins’ last appearance in the NBA came in the 2021-22 season with the Denver Nuggets. In his time in Denver, Cousins played in 31 games, 8 points, and 5 rebounds. On Monday, Cousins made waves with his statement on former Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokic.

During a sit down with Kevin Garnett on SHOWTIME Basketball, Cousins gave his opinion on who is the NBA MVP. The former Sacramento Kings star felt one player, in particular, doesn’t deserve the award. That one player being the back-to-back winner of the award, Jokic. Cousins is of the belief that Jokic can’t win three MVP awards without winning a championship. Definitely a strong take on a talented player. But it is true, Jokic is still chasing that elusive championship.

DeMarcus Cousins Continues Playing Career

Cousins still feels like he can go. Also, Cousins feels he can still contribute to an NBA team. The former Kentucky Wildcat is certain he can still play at the highest level. Cousins has been a dominant force in the past. However, injuries have plagued the last few years of his career. The big man hasn’t played over 60 games in an NBA season since 2016-17. Many teams believe Cousins to be a liability with his injury history. But the talent is still there. Now it’s time to see him in action once again. Which could be the reasoning for his latest move.

DeMarcus Cousins has the mindset that every athlete should have. Cousins has the heart of a competitor. Maybe a stint in Puerto Rico will show teams around the NBA that he still has the talent. Do you believe we will see Cousins back in the NBA? If so, where would be the best landing spot for the former lottery pick? Please give us your predictions on Cousins’ future in the comment section. DeMarcus Cousins Takes Shot At Nikola Jokic: Video

DeMarcus recently was a host on SHOWTIME Basketball. During his appearance with Kevin Garnett, the two discussed Nikola Jokic. Jokic is the reigning back-to-back winner of the NBA MVP Award. There have been a lot of heated discussions about the MVP Award this season. Many believe that it is finally time to crown Joel Embiid with the prestigious award. However, other’s believe that Jokic could earn the award for a third straight time. For Cousins, he isn’t sure the time is right for Jokic to earn the award.

“He hasn’t won anything. He hasn’t been to a final.” That was the biggest statement to come from the Cousins interview. However, the former NBA star didn’t completely rule out Jokic winning the award again. But he did say that at this point in his career, Jokic isn’t deserving of the award. Both of the NBA MVP Award frontrunners are ringless. Jokic being the only one of the two to compete in a Conference Final. But both have a great opportunity to erase that stigma from their careers this postseason.

DeMarcus Cousins Believes A New Player Will Win The MVP

The body of work has already been put in for the NBA MVP Award. Many were ready to hand Embiid the award last week after a dominating performance over the Celtics. However, it does feel as if the winner could be a toss-up between Embiid and Jokic. Even Giannis could receive some votes for the award. However, it does feel like the award is trending toward Embiid’s to lose. The debate has been fierce, with great points from both camps.

The NBA MVP Award will always be a hot discussion topic. The award means so much to so many people. However, Embiid isn’t worried about winning the award. He recently mentioned that he has done everything he can to win the award. If he is chosen great, if not, on to the next one. An NBA Finals featuring the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers would be one of the biggest matchups in recent times. Maybe it would be the true deciding factor on who the better player has been this season. Do you agree with DeMarcus Cousins Let us know in the comment sections. DeMarcus Cousins Wants To Know Why He Isn’t In The League

Demarcus Cousins was once one of the more feared bigs in the NBA. Now, the former All-Star is on the outside looking in. Cousins hasn’t been seen since last season when he spent time with the Nuggets. Cousins did work out for the Lakers earlier this year. Unfortunately, the team went in another direction. With the season basically over, the 32-year-old vet is wondering why he isn’t on a roster. On Tuesday, Cousins admitted he doesn’t really know the answer.

Appearing on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Cousins mentioned that he “would love to get a real answer” as to why he isn’t playing. Cousins claims that he never gets an honest answer when looking into rejoining the league. The former Kentucky Wildcat does have a great argument on his side. With the Playoffs looming, many teams would be foolish not to look into adding the big man. In his career, Cousins has averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game. A career double-double average seems like a no-brainer for teams looking for depth.

Demarcus Cousins Wants Answers

While Cousins’ career numbers are great, injuries could be an issue. Cousins hasn’t played over 60 games in a season since 2016-17 when he appeared in 72 games. Cousins missed the entire 19-20 season with a torn ACL. As well as not playing in at least 50 games in the 20-21 and 21-22 seasons. Durability is definitely playing a role in the current process. Although, it’s hard to question the toughness and talent Demarcus Cousins possesses. A healthy Cousins would be a great asset for any team. No matter their playoff situation.

Prime Demarcus Cousins was can’t miss television in a neglected market. Many will overlook the work Cousins put in over his time in the league. The league is a better place with Cousins in the league. If we never see “Boogie” on the court again, he can rest easy knowing he had a solid career. Would you take the risk of adding Cousins to your roster? Does Cousins have a real argument? Let us know in the comment section below. DeMarcus Cousins Secures Lakers Opportunity

DeMarcus Cousins has had a rough go of things over the past few years. After leaving the Sacramento Kings, he has bounced around the league quite a bit. From the New Orleans Pelicans to the Warriors to the Lakers to the Nuggets, Cousins has not been able to settle down.

Overall, it has been hard to watch as fans know what prime Cousins was capable of. As a result of his lack of NBA opportunities, it seemed like Boogie was subsequently planning a move to Taiwan. However, it seems like a new opportunity is keeping him in America.

DeMarcus Cousins x Lakers Reunion?

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Cousins is getting a workout with the Lakers on Friday. Of course, Cousins was on the Lakers back in 2019-2020, however, an ACL injury kept him out of the lineup. It was a disappointing campaign that ultimately led to his recent string of inconsistency.

Now, however, Cousins has a real opportunity to get back on an NBA roster. In fact, Cousins is going to be competing against Meyers Leonard, who is always working out for the Lakers. Most Lakers fans are hoping for Cousins to get the spot as they are already familiar with him.

The Lakers could use a whole lot of help these days. However, it remains to be seen if Cousins or Leonard will get an opportunity. Either way, it is good to see the Lakers exploring all avenues ahead of the trade deadline.

Let us know which player you think the Lakers should pick up, down in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates from around the sports world.
