Diddy No Longer Owns DeLeón Tequila After Reaching A Settlement With Diageo

Diddy’s business empire continues to crumble in the wake of a slew of sexual assault lawsuits against him at the end of the year. Rolling Stone reports that, after settling his lawsuit against beverage licensing company Diageo, the music mogul will no longer have any ties to the Ciroc vodka or DeLeón tequila brands, relinquishing his 50-percent stake in each.

Diddy sued his former partners in May of last year, claiming racisim at Diageo had stunted the growth of his brands, going so far as asking him to take a backseat in marketing to downplay their reputation as Black brands (Diageo owns 35 percent of Hennessey, by the way). In September, the lawsuit was moved to New York district court and was cleared to become public.

However, in November, Diddy’s ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit of her own against him, alleging that he’d beat her, raped her, and coerced her into sexual encounters with other men. Although he and Cassie settled within 24 hours, by then, the damage had been done, and the floodgates opened for three more accusers to come forward over the next month.

This gave DeLeón the leverage to attempt to block the mogul’s request for an injunction granting him a $15 million marketing budget for DeLeón. Today, both parties issued a joint statement revealing the terms of the settlement, although any financial details are being kept out of the press. “Sean Combs and Diageo have now agreed to resolve all disputes between them,” it reads. “Mr. Combs has withdrawn all of his allegations about Diageo and will voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits against Diageo with prejudice. Diageo and Mr. Combs have no ongoing business relationship, either with respect to Cîroc vodka or DeLeón tequila, which Diageo now solely owns.”

As the lawsuits have continued, Diddy stepped down from his role as Chairman of Revolt, while many brands associated with his Empower Global marketplace have removed themselves.

Diageo Uses Cassie’s Diddy Lawsuit In Attempt To Further Push Him Out Of DeLeon Tequila

Diageo cited Cassie’s recent lawsuit against Diddy in a letter filed with a New York court, last Friday, while further attempting to push him out as the face of DeLeón tequila. The company noted new “public and disturbing accusations” against the Bad Boy mogul and argued they risk “devastating and permanent damage” to the tequila brand.

Diageo also claimed that, as revealed by a statement from Diddy’s lawyer to The New York Times, he knew about Cassie’s accusations for months in advance. The company explained that the period of time “happens to correspond with the pendency of Combs Wines’ original lawsuit against Diageo.”

Cassie filed her lawsuit against Diddy, last week, accusing him of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. The two agreed on a settlement less than 24 hours later. “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control,” Cassie wrote in a statement afterward. “I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.” She reportedly took home $30 million in exchange for dropping the legal pursuit.

Diddy isn’t the only person at Bad Boy facing sexual abuse allegations. Just days after Cassie’s lawsuit, a former assistant at the label filed a similar complaint against ex-executive Harve Pierre. In response, a spokesperson for the company said in a statement: “The allegations are from many years ago that were never brought to the attention of the company. Neither the plaintiff nor the executive are current employees of the company. We are now investigating the allegations, and our top priority is the safety and well-being of our employees.” Be on the lookout for further updates on the lawsuit against Harve Pierre as well as Diddy and Cassie on HotNewHipHop.

Diddy Scores Legal Win In Diageo & DeLeon Tequila Case, Will Move Forward

In the ongoing case of Diddy versus Diageo, the company that allegedly mismanaged his DeLeon tequila brand and was discriminatory, he just scored a significant victory. Moreover, the liquor conglomerate motioned to dismiss the case altogether or reach private settlement, according to court documents from Thursday in New York state court. The Bad Boy mogul watched as Judge Joel M. Cohen rejected these proposals, thus moving the case forward into state jurisdiction and opening the trial to the public. Sean Combs initially filed this lawsuit in May. It claimed that the company breached its partnership deal by failing to support profits and promotion,

Furthermore, this also prompted accusations of racism from Diddy, as he claimed Diageo mistreated their agreement due to his race in comparison to their other lucrative deals. In June, the company denied any and all claims, accusing the musician, executive, and businessman of trying to squeeze even more money out of them. They severed ties with him, alleging that he “repeatedly undermined [their] partnerships. [He] threatened to publicly defame Diageo if [they] did not meet his unreasonable financial demands,” according to a spokeswoman.

In addition, Diageo labeled Diddy as “an unreliable and untrustworthy business partner” who did not fulfill his responsibilities in the deal. Simultaneously with these claims, they motioned for dismissal or closed-doors settlements, given that the parties signed a binding arbitration agreement. Still, the judge did not grant these requests after hearing arguments on both sides for over 90 minutes. “This case has always been about getting fair and equal treatment,” John Hueston, Combs’ lawyer, stated. “Today’s decision is an important step in the right direction. Diageo tried to end this action. Today the judge soundly rejected that effort.”

“I’m fighting for fair and equal treatment for everyone,” the hitmaker chimed in. “This isn’t just about me. I look forward to continuing this fight in court. We all deserve the same 24 hours.” Here’s what a spokesperson for Diageo had to say about this. “While we are disappointed with yesterday’s procedural decision, it is important to underscore that this is not a ruling on the merits of the claims, which we maintain are false and baseless. We are currently considering all legal options.” On that note, check back in with HNHH for the latest updates and more news on Diddy.

Diddy Claims Diageo Retaliated Illegally Amid Discrimination Lawsuit

Diddy’s ongoing lawsuit against the liquor company Diageo on basis of racial discrimination isn’t getting any easier to navigate. Moreover, his recent actions in court to move his case forward included allegations that the spirits brand retaliated against him in an undue way. For those unaware, the Bad Boy mogul partnered with the company to produce, distribute, sell, and promote his tequila, Puff’s DeLeón brand. Back in May, he sued Diageo with claims that they racially discriminated in its handling of his brand and neglected it outright. They responded and claimed this is a farce, and that he only contributed $1,000 to a partnership that raked in over a billion dollars in profits.

Regardless, Diddy’s not going down without a fight, as court documents from Wednesday (July 19) obtained by The New York Post indicate. “The message is clear- if you dare to shed light on Diageo’s conduct, you will be punished,” hiss lawyer John Hueston allegedly told the New York State Supreme Court. “While Diageo has self-servingly misrepresented the goals of Combs’s lawsuit in the press, its attempt to retaliate against Combs for asserting his legal rights will not work in court.” In addition, his filing claims that the liquor company marketed his tequila as an “urban” brand.

“This is a business dispute and should not be recast as anything other than that,” a representative for Diageo told The Post. Furthermore, they maintained that they have a right by contract to “to terminate the marketing services agreement in place for Ciroc and begin the wind down of the DeLeón joint venture. Our actions are consistent with our desire to protect the significant investment we have made in both brands and their future growth. [Diddy’s] longstanding bad faith actions, false accusations and breaches of contract overwhelmingly support Diageo’s justified decision to sever ties.”

Meanwhile, one of Combs’ lawyers told HipHopDX that this is pure retaliation. “It’s a cynical and transparent attempt to distract from multiple allegations of discrimination,” Hueston stated. “Over the years, he has repeatedly raised concerns as senior executives uttered racially insensitive comments and made biased decisions based on that point of view. Diageo even acknowledged the problem by agreeing in his contract to treat DeLeon the same way it treated their other tequila brands. He brought the lawsuit to force them to live up to that contract, and instead they respond by trying to get rid of him. This lawsuit and Mr. Combs are not going away.” For more news and the latest updates on Diddy, check back in with HNHH.

Diddy Wants To Sell DeLeón Tequila “Door To Door” Amid Diageo Lawsuit

Despite Diddy being a certified business mogul, not all of his endeavors end up panning out perfectly, but he still picks himself back up. For those unaware, the Bad Boy boss recently had a falling out with the UK spirits brand Diageo, accusing them of being “racist” when managing his liquors (Cîroc vodka and DeLeón tequila). Moreover, Sean Combs recently appeared in an ad for the latter, stating that the bottle isn’t going anywhere. Not only that, but he referenced his life experiences and said that he will sell it “door-to-door” if he has to. Furthermore, the promotional video appeared on his Instagram page and features him in Harlem giving bottles to local businesses.

“I grew up as a paper boy,” Diddy says in the clip. “That means I would go door to door. So that’s the only way I know how to hustle. I’m going to make DeLeón Tequila number one. Because I’m going to get up every morning at six in the morning and I’m gonna go door to door. And, I’m not going to let nothing or nobody stop me. And neither should you. Let’s go.

Diddy Promotes DeLeón Tequila Amid Liquor Brand’s Rivalry

“I come from New York and I stand behind my product,” Puff Daddy continued. “I was a paper boy. I would go door to door with my hustle. That’s what I’m out here doing. I’m selling a product I believe in. Thank ya’ll for the support. I love ya’ll.” In the video’s caption, he alluded to his current struggles. “Let nothing or nobody stop you,” Diddy wrote. Regardless of his efforts, his lawsuit against Diageo will still be quite the contentious and difficult affair, from what it seems. The company owns over 200 liquor brands, with many of these being celebrity brands.

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old alleged in his suit that Diageo’s North America division “starved Combs’ Cîroc vodka and DeLeón tequila brands of resources.” “Cloaking itself in the language of diversity and equality is good for Diageo’s business, but it is a lie,” the complaint reads. The brand denied his claims, alleged that he didn’t contribute enough monetarily to the partnership, and that he violated his contracts. With that in mind, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Diddy.

Diddy Sues Alcohol Company For Alleged Racist Neglect Of His Brands

Diddy’s alcohol company, Combs Wine and Spirits, is suing their partner Diageo for alleged neglect founded on racist assumptions. The company claims that Diageo failed to properly market or invest in Diddy’s booze brands, Ciroc and DeLeon. His legal team believes that the neglect could be rooted in racism, claiming “Diageo has typecasted Ciroc and DeLeon, apparently deciding they are ‘Black brands’ that should be targeted only to ‘urban’ consumers.”

The artist’s legal team went on to claim that Diageo “put their feet on the neck of Mr Combs’ brands.” Also adding that the company was “choking off production, distribution and sales” of Ciroc and DeLeon. They want Diageo “to provide the equal treatment” that the company “contractually promised.” Diddy’s alcohol LLC also revealed plans to purse another lawsuit against the company, where they will seek “billions of dollars in damages due to Diageo’s neglect and breaches.”

“Diageo – a multi-billion dollar, publicly-traded spirits company – proclaims itself a leader in diversity and inclusion,” the filing also reads. Diddy’s team calls this proclamation “a lie.” Court documents reveal that president of reserve and new business at Diegeo, Stephen Rust, also allegedly told Diddy directly about racism within the company. According to the filings, “some within Diageo’s leadership resented [Diddy] for making too much money.” Diddy’s team also accused Rust of “[admitting] that Mr Combs’ race was part of the reason Diageo limited the neighborhoods where the Combs brands were distributed. If Mr Combs were ‘Martha Stewart’, Mr Rust said, things would be different.”

A Diageo spokesperson later shared a statement regarding the allegations. “Our steadfast commitment to diversity within our company and the communities we serve is something we take very seriously,” they began. “We categorically deny the allegations that have been made and will vigorously defend ourselves in the appropriate forum.” The spokesperson later said, “This is a business dispute.” Adding that Diageo is “saddened that Mr Combs has chosen to recast this matter as anything other than that.”

Now that it’s been released, it’s clear that the track embodies the essence of a summer club anthem. Diddy is also going to unexpected lengths to promote the track and show appreciation to fans.
