Jpegmafia And Danny Brown’s Chaotic ‘Lean Beef Patty’ Puts Their Own Spin On A Resurgent Sample

Over the past year or so, elder millennials have been dismayed to learn that the 15-year sample cycle has finally gotten to some of our high school classics. Ice Spice, the rap it-girl of the moment, snatched a sample of Diddy’s “I Need A Girl, Part 2” for one of her latest viral favorite singles, “Gangsta Boo” with Lil Tjay, and now, another pair of rappers from the opposite end of the spectrum have hijacked the sample for their own use.

Jpegmafia, who is pretty well known for his love of unusual sounds and contrarian approaches to popular hip-hop, teams up with Danny Brown for “Lean Beef Patty,” a chaotic track that speeds up the 2002 hit and combines it with a pounding, electronic synth to truly unsettling effect. The self-produced track is set to appear on Jpeg and Danny’s upcoming joint project, Scaring The Hoes, Vol. 1, which is named after a popular meme about playing unusual rap music at parties and “scaring the hoes.” Both rappers know a thing or two about this sort of unfair characterization.

But if unconventional rap music is your thing, you could do worse than a joint album featuring the two hip-hop mischief makers. You can pre-order Scaring The Hoes here.

Danny Brown Isn’t A Fan Of NY Drill: “All These N*ggas Sound Like ‘Batman Beyond’”

The Drill wave was established in Chicago, and despite being a global phenomenon, Danny Brown isn’t a fan. Drill has taken new heights in different cities, which tap into the sound but amend it to their own style. Brooklyn Drill has been the latest craze, and we’re seeing more artists emerge from New York City. As it continues to gain movement, Brown hopped on his podcast with JPEG Mafia and disparaged the subgenre.

“I got some funny sh*t for Rap I wanna say,” the rapper said on The Danny Brown Show. “What’s up with New York Drill music?” He was asked what he meant. “Why all these n*ggas sound like Batman? All these n*ggas rap like Batman Beyond. What the f*ck is wrong with y’all n*ggas man? That sh*t ain’t fire!” Obviously, it’s the deep voices that irked Brown. “N*gga you 16. Your balls ain’t even dropped yet. You ain’t even got a deep voice yet. These n*ggas rapping like villains.”

“I just wanted to say that, man,” Brown added after getting a few things off of his chest. “All you New York Drill n*ggas rapping like Batman Begins, that sh*t is over with. Pop Smoke, that was his natural voice, man, but all y’all 16.” He added, “Shout out to real New York rappers like MIKE, you know what I’m saying.” He isn’t the first to air out grievances with Drill.

While Brown’s take had much to do with the deep voices rappers use while performing, others have taken issue with the violence within Drill. Things became so concerning that certain New York City radio hosts refused to play Drill tracks that called out other artists. Recently, Remy Ma also delivered a hot take about the subgenre, stating that she feels as if much of Drill is overrated. She also noted that it’s difficult to understand and touched on the troubles regarding violence.

Is Drill The Next Hip Hop Target?

Additionally, politicians have also targeted Drill. Mayor Eric Adams has called for a ban on the music, but recently, he’s been spotted rubbing elbows with Hip Hop’s elite. Check out Danny Brown above.

Danny Brown Declares AI Rapper FN Meka Is No Good And Has Convincing Reasons Why

Back in May, Danny Brown got into the podcast game by launching The Danny Brown Show (through YMH Studios, owned by married comedians Tom Segura and Christina P.) He’s put out new episodes weekly since then and on the latest one from August 30, he weighed in on AI rapper FN Meka. To put it simply, he’s not a fan.

Addressing the initial upset some hip-hop fans had about Meka signing with Capitol Records, Brown said, “Only thing I’m mad about is he’s an AI-generated rapper but they got him saying ‘n****.’ Now that’s racist, ’cause we know ain’t no n****s programming no f*ckin AI-generated rappers. He’s saying ‘n****’ and sh*t and that’s the weird sh*t because I mean, he’s an AI-generated program: He should be smart enough to say some other words. He should have a vast vocabulary.”

He continued, “F*ck FN Meka, I’m beefing with him. Tell him to drop the diss song on me, Danny Brown want all the smoke.”

Brown also brought up another point about competition in hip-hop: “So if he comes up and this does real good, and this is successful, […] other record labels are going to be like, ‘F*ck it, I gotta get me an AI-generated rapper.’ I mean, bad enough we competing with each other. You know how many rappers it is in the world? It’s too many of us! It’s definitely too many f*cking rappers. […] Now you’re telling me we gotta compete with computers, too? F*ck this sh*t, man!”

That Meka diss track is likely not coming any time soon, as the rapper was quickly dropped from its label following the backlash.

Danny Brown Unleashes ‘Winter,’ His First Solo Song In Three Years

Detroit rapper Danny Brown is back with “Winter,” his first solo song in three years, after unveiling it during an episode of the podcast Your Mom’s House. For now, the two-and-a-half-minute track is only on Soundcloud, his flow uninterrupted against a haunting, brooding beat that lends an eerie atmosphere to the song.

Last year, he took part in The Red Bull SoundClash, up against Rico Nasty. About his participation in the event, he told Uproxx, “I was a part of the A$AP SoundClash in London that they did against Boy Better Know. I don’t know, but they just hit me up. But I was always a fan of what it was. So, of course, when they asked me to do it, I was down. It didn’t even matter who it was against.” He added, “It’s my own personal set. This is working with someone else. And to me, this is not a soundclash, with the real Jamaican sound clashes. This is training. This is preschool. I mean, that’s what they calling it, but this is not that vibe. It’s not that energy. In Jamaica, a soundclash is war. We ain’t got that energy with each other. We ain’t got that vibe, so this ain’t that.”

Danny Brown Reacts To Saucy Santana Comparisons On TikTok: ‘This Is Incredible’

Saucy Santana is once again going viral. This time, in the form of a TikTok sound. The aforementioned sound features vocals from Santana’s hit single “Material Girl,” which, itself, has received several rotations on TikTok, over the instrumental track of Danny Brown’s “Ain’t It Funny.”

Brown has caught wind of the sound, and it’s safe to say, he is a fan.

“I’ve noticed that you sound incredibly similar to @SaucySantana_,” said Twitter user @ReyDG23, with a video clip embedded, containing the sound.

Brown quote-retweeted the clip, saying, “this is incredible.”

Last year, Brown, 40, teased a new project called Quaranta, a reference to his age, as “quaranta” means “40” in Italian. He spoke about the project during an interview with Antony Fantano.

“We’re just waiting on the right timing,” Brown said. “But it’s not called ‘40’, it’s called ‘Quaranta’. You know what I’m saying, it’s a… I don’t wanna give away too much why, but y’all will figure it out.”

He confirmed that MixedByAli of Top Dawg Entertainment will handle the album’s final mix, which includes some production work by The Alchemist. In another interview with HotNewHipHop, Brown described the sound of Quaranta as “just all over the place,” and also, “it’s going to be fun.”

“I was a single, experimenting man at the time, but he was too aggressive!” Brown revealed. “He sat on my lap and started trying to kiss me and sh*t and doing weird sh*t. I’m like, ‘Man, you tripping!’ Then everybody looking at me like, ‘Somebody f**k!’”

Danny Brown Says Ninja From Die Antwoord Sexually Assaulted Him: ‘He Know I Ain’t Lying!’

Danny Brown recently appeared on Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer’s 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, and during the conversation, which in total lasted for an hour and 15 minutes, the Detroit rapper made a shocking allegation. He accused Ninja, who is one-half of the South African hip-hop duo Die Antwoord, of sexually assaulting him after one of Brown’s past shows in Paris. Brown told Segura that Ninja messaged him about meeting up after the show, and instead, Brown offered to put his name on the guest list, but Ninja declined. “[He’s like,] ‘Don’t worry about it, I’ll find you,’” Brown said. “That was weird, that was like one red flag.”

Brown says he eventually did meet up with Ninja and was soon “freaked out” by his behavior. “I was a single, experimenting man at the time, but he was too aggressive!” Brown said. “He sat on my lap and started trying to kiss me and sh*t and doing weird sh*t. I’m like, ‘Man, you tripping!’”

He continued, “Ninja tried to f*ck me. I was scared … … He always throw Yolandi on you. I think that’s how he’s been f*cking n****s. F*ck them, though! F*ck them. I could’ve canceled cuz. MeToo. I was sexually assaulted by Ninja. He know I ain’t lying!”

Brown added that Ninja refused to stop attempting to make a move on him. Additionally, Ninja told him that he would find out where his hotel was. “That’s what started making me pound drinks because I’m like, ‘I might have to stab this n**** tonight,’” Brown said. He added, “Because if this n**** knock on my hotel room door, bro, I’m the stabbing the sh*t — it’s gonna be a big deal. It’s gonna be a thing. That would’ve been a fight, but I’m in Paris. Who want to be in a Parisian jail? N****, do you know what jail is like for me in Paris? It’s gonna be crazy. So I’m shellshocked, like, ‘This n****’s really doing this?’”
