JID And Lute Share The First Taste Of The ‘Creed III’ Soundtrack With Their Powerful Collab, ‘Ma Boy’
On the first single from the official soundtrack to Creed III, JID and Lute step into the ring, hyping each other up on the energetic track, “Ma Boy.” The song features the Dreamville labelmates giving each other encouragement, as they put on their boxing gloves and get ready for an epic fight.
“Boy, boy, that’s my brother, so play it cool / He a fool, a tool, a loose screw / Pickin’ on me, ain’t no pick and choose / Either way that you look, it’s a lose-lose,” raps JID on his first verse.
Soon after, Lute joins in, matching JID’s energy, rapping, “You know that we ain’t the same / You know how I got these stripes / They know I’m rooted in blood / Y’all just be lit of the hype, you know this really my life.”
The soundtrack to the third installment of the Creed series will be executive produced by Dreamville, alongside Proximity Media (Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis), Outlier Society (Michael B. Jordan) and Executive Music Producer Frank Brim. In the past, the soundtrack to the second film was produced by Mike Will Made-It, and the first by Kevin Weaver.
The Creed III soundtrack will arrive next month, in tandem with the movie’s premiere.
In the meantime, you can stream “Ma Boy” here.
The Creed III soundtrack is out 3/3 via Dreamville and Interscope.
Dreamville Announces “Creed III” Soundtrack
When both music and movie fans can rejoice, those moments can make for some of the best in a year for pop culture. While many teased and spoke about this crossover, its confirmation is setting those high expectations up. Dreamville just announced their soundtrack for Creed III, the next franchise installment. Moreover, the film is directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan, who previously teased the team-up. “I’m probably gonna get in trouble,” he expressed at ComplexCon. “Dreamville is executive producing this album.” Now, after that insider scoop, the dominant hip-hop label confirmed their big moment.
While Jordan’s likely over the moon about the crossover, it didn’t stop acting and directing at the same time to be difficult for him. “It’s torture, but at the same time, it’s so much fun,” he told Collider in an interview. “It was the challenge of accomplishing it all, with the multitasking nature of developing the story, trying to stay in shape, and giving all the departments what they individually needed, to go do their job.” However, maybe one of the many hats he wore was also making sure this soundtrack felt right. While no one from either camp has yet commented on it at length, some of Dreamville’s camp hyped up its Instagram reveal in its comments. For example, Bas commented a punching emoji, while Morray posted two fire emojis.
Still, the soundtrack will likely fit well when paired with the on-and-off-screen themes of perseverance and dedication. “It’s really hard to put into words,” the director and actor shared. “Every day was a struggle, but honestly, it was the team of people that I had around me that got me through it. You’ve really gotta surround yourself with the right help, so that you can focus on the things you need to focus on. Sometimes that’s doing two things at one time, or three things at one time. It’s just part of the job.
“Once you step behind the camera,” he continued, “the undertaking that it is, from the outside looking in, it’s tough.” However, through that hard work and passion, we’re probably getting something very special soon from these creatives.
