Colin Kaepernick’s Comments About His Adoptive Parents Draw Strong Reactions From Social Media

Colin Kaepernick is someone who has been through a whole lot over the years. Overall, he was blackballed from the NFL due to his various protests. Many misinterpreted what he was trying to do, as did the NFL owners. Although the league admitted it acted hastily against him Kap still hasn’t been able to return to the league. It is a disappointing situation that has some fans looking at the NFL a certain way.

Thankfully, Kap has been able to accomplish a lot off the field. Furthermore, he is coming out with a new graphic novel called Colin Kaepernick: Change The Game. While writing the novel, Kaepernick spoke about his parents and some of the problematic behaviors they had. This included how they reacted to certain hairstyles. “I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through. I think it was important to show, ‘No, this can happen in your own home.’ And how do we move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated,” Kaepernick said. “There were a lot more Black people in football. I was like, ‘Oh, I found some community here.’”

Colin Kaepernick Speaks

Due to these comments, Colin Kaepernick was immediately subjected to a whole lot of hate and vitriol. Subsequently, the words “Ungrateful POS” began to trend as conservatives scolded him for not appreciating his adoptive parents. Of course, that wasn’t what Kap was trying to do, however, the hate brigade picked up on it right away. Thankfully, there were plenty of people who understood exactly what Kaepernick was trying to get across. “I know that most reactions to Colin Kaepernick these days are simply a way to show what political team one is on, but if you haven’t experienced transracial adoption, you might want to sit this one out and listen for a minute. It’s more complicated than you imagine,” one user wrote.

“There are so many Black people who have had these experiences with adoptive parents. Including biracial children with their own parents. I love that Colin Kaepernick spoke about this,” another person explained. Clearly, a lot of people misinterpreted what Kaepernick meant, but that is par for the course. The right has always hated Kap, and that will not change. Hopefully, the former NFL star doesn’t pay too much attention to all of this noise.

Colin Kaepernick Speaks On White Adoptive Parents’ “Problematic” Responses To Him Embracing Blackness

As his supporters continue to fight for an opportunity for Colin Kaepernick to return to the NFL, the footballer’s schedule has been stacked. Not only has he helped thousands through his charity work, but Kaepernick has also been working on a new graphic novel. Colin Kaepernick: Change the Game is an effort he partnered with Eve L. Ewing to complete. The book is about Kaepernick’s life before becoming a football star and details his struggles with his identity.

Kaepernick has spoken at length about his youth and growing up as a biracial adoptee with white parents. “You know, very similar to the messaging of the book is I don’t have control over all of these situations,” he said on CBS Mornings. “But I control how I respond to it, I control how I prepare for it, and I’m a believer that in doing that, good things will happen.”

The world watched as the “Take a Knee” activist’s career crumbled for not standing for America’s National Anthem. It didn’t sway Kaepernick’s vision, and his tendency to shy away from the spotlight helped to keep him balanced. He’s no stranger to a bit of pushback, as he explained about his parents. There were times when he still wanted to celebrate his Blackness while navigating being in predominately white environments. This wasn’t always welcomed.

“I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through. I think it was important to show, ‘No, this can happen in your own home.’ And how do we move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.” At the time, he was shining in baseball. Kaepernick added, “There were a lot more Black people in football. I was like, ‘Oh, I found some community here.’”

His Mother Told Him His Cornrows Made Him Look Like A “Thug”

In the graphic novel, Kaepernick also details an experience with his mother. When he began emulating sports stars he admired, it was difficult for him to explain styles and trends. Kaepernick recalled seeing Allen Iverson wearing cornrows and wanting to be like him. His mother questioned what “rolls” he was interested in, calling the hairstyle unprofessional. Kaepernick even claimed she referred to him as a “little thug.”

Meanwhile, keep an eye out for Kaepernick’s next project. He says it’s a documentary that goes into his “Take a Knee” protest that sparked worldwide attention. He further revealed that the film would premiere on Netflix and boasts Spike Lee as director. Check out more from Colin Kaepernick above.

Rihanna Explains Agreeing To Super Bowl After Rejecting Invitation For Kaepernick

Her Super Bowl halftime performance shocked fans in more ways than one, and Rihanna is still reeling from the attention. It was then that the singer revealed she was pregnant with her second child, but that wasn’t the only thing that surprised fans. Years ago, Rihanna turned down the NFL’s invitation to perform at the Super Bowl in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. The former professional football star was ensnarled in controversy for taking a knee during the National Anthem. The pushback caused several artists to issue a boycott of sorts, including Rihanna.

However, the hitmaker looks to have had a change of heart. She graced the Super Bowl stage and delivered almost 15 minutes of her classic records, and in an interview with British Vogue, Rihanna explained why she decided to perform. Years ago, she said she didn’t want to “be a sellout,” but now, representation was important. “There’s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes,” she said.

“But it’s powerful to break those doors, and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level,” Rihanna continued. “Two Super Bowls back-to-back, you know, representing the urban community, globally. It is powerful. It sends a really strong message. Of course, raising a young Black man is one of the scariest responsibilities in life. You’re like, ‘What am I leaving my kids to? This is the planet they’re gonna be living on?’ All of those things really start to hit differently.”

“It’s this knowing that you can do anything, even things that seem the craziest, like, ‘I’m going to say yes to the Super Bowl in the middle of postpartum?’” she further added. “What the heck am I thinking? But you’re geeked on a challenge like that because you know what your body just did. You feel this sense of ‘Nothing is impossible.’” When Rihanna accepted the invitation to perform, she wasn’t pregnant with her second child. Still, she decided to continue even after learning she was expecting.

“It was almost like an out-of-body experience,” she says of the day it was announced. “I have not been on stage in seven years. Seven years! From zero to Super Bowl? That’s mental.”

Colin Kaepernick Jersey To Sell For Big Bucks At Auction

Colin Kaepernick got a very rough deal when it comes to his time in the NFL. During his first few years with the San Francisco 49ers, he was the man. Overall, he brought the team to a Super Bowl and even orchestrated a second-half comeback that almost won them the whole thing. However, his career eventually took a turn. The 49ers started to decline and after protesting racial inequality by kneeling during the anthem, Kap found himself out of the league. Today, it is still seen as one of the biggest injustices in the history of the NFL.

Regardless, Colin Kaepernick continues to fight for what he believes in. While he still hasn’t gotten that second NFL opportunity, he still works hard whenever he gets the chance. It is clear to everyone that he remains in good shape, and one can only imagine how he would play if he were back in the league. For now, fans will simply have to dream.

SOURCE SPORTS: Las Vegas Raiders Not Ready To Talk Deal After Colin Kaepernick Work Out

m

Colin Kaepernick worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders for over five hours on Thursday with no official deal to report. While reports say the workout was a positive one,  Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels declined to comment to reporters on Kaepernick’s movement, stating that he does not discuss players not currently on the roster.

“Just by standard procedure, we will only talk about the people that are on our team,” McDaniels said. “[General manager] Dave [Ziegler] and his staff have worked out tons of guys this spring, and we really don’t make comments about the evaluations that we’ve made; or what they look like, what they didn’t look like.

“They’re kind of private for us as we look at things to try to make decisions to make the team better.”

Currently, the Raiders are set at starting quarterback with Derek Carr, who signed a three-year $121.5 million extension this offseason. The team also acquired Jarrett Stidham from the New England Patriots. If the Raiders are going to sign Kaepernick, he would be looking at the third-string quarterback job.

Kaepernick hasn’t been an NFL starting quarterback since 2016. Since then, the only other team known to have brought him in for a visit was the Seattle Seahawks in May 2017. If Kaepernick is serious about an NFL comeback, he will have to continue to show out and prove at 34 years old, that he still got the skills to be on an NFL roster.

SOURCE SPORTS: Colin Kaepernick Set for Workout with the Las Vegas Raiders

m

After years of protesting justice, Colin Kaepernick will have another chance at returning to the NFL. ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that the Las Vegas Raiders would invite the quarterback in for a workout.

Kaepernick’s last NFL appearance came in 2016, when he played for the San Francisco 49ers, also the year he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

The Raiders workout will be Kaepernick’s first workout with an NFL team since being exiled, and it will be the first time the former star quarterback visits with a team since he flew to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks in May 2017 before they passed on the opportunity to sign him.

Although Kaepernick hasn’t been in the league, he’s been dedicated to staying in shape and football ready.

The former starting quarterback recently threw to undrafted receivers for NFL scouts at halftime of Michigan’s spring game, thanks to his former coach with the 49ers, Jim Harbaugh.

Schefter commented on the possibility of a comeback for Kaepernick.

“The fact that the Raiders are gonna have him workout today tells you that there has to be some level of interest in signing him,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday on NFL Live. “That this is not just some cursory look at a free-agent quarterback. Nobody else has been willing to do what the Raiders are doing today.”

The NFL quarterback carousel is in full motion. DeShaun Watson is in Cleveland, Russell Wilson to Denver, and Matt Ryan is now in Indianapolis, which leaves a couple of teams without quarterbacks. Could Colin Kaepernick fill the void?

According to TMZ Sports, famous football trainer David Robinson has revealed multiple NFL teams have inquired about the QB after the two engaged in offseason workouts. Robinson states the Dallas workouts led to five teams asking about his condition.

“A few teams have reached out to me and asked how his arm looked,” said Robinson. “They have reached out and asked about him.”

Kaepernick has been out the elague since 2016, but the 34-year-old flashed his arm recently, tossing balls to Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett.

“He definitely has the ability to play on somebody’s roster — like, right now,” Robinson said. “Like, a couple of the guys that were in the session that were on NFL teams were saying that his arm is just as strong as guys’ that we got on our roster right now and can play.”
