Coi Leray Says She Freestyled “Players” Single In One Take

After a bit of a lull, Coi Leray is back in action. For a moment there, it seemed as if social media channels were flooded with news and updates about Leray. Whether she was celebrating collaborations with Nicki Minaj or verbally sparring with her father, Benzino, the rapper was at the top of her game as her star continued to rise.

Then, as many artists do, Leray fell back as she plotted her next step. We now have her latest single, “Players,” that famously interpolates a Hip Hop classic: “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. The viral track has sparked a new era for Leray, especially as DJs and artists remix the single to their liking.

On Instagram, Leray is giving her fans an inside look at her “Players” recording process. As the track climbs up the charts thanks to TikTok, it’s a good time for the rapper to flex her time in the booth.

“This the day we made a movie,” she wrote in the caption of her clip. “I went in and freestyled players in 1 take. Wait till you see how my brain works in these studios 🔥🔥.”

Meanwhile, it is unclear if we will receive a new project from Leray in 2023. The East Coast star has also been working on Trendsetter Studios, described as a “multi-dimensional media company.” We’re sure she will have much more to share as that develops in the new year.

Check out the popular remix to “Players” that has been making its way through the internet below. Let us know if you prefer this version or the original.

Coi Leray Gushes About Meeting Busta Rhymes, Calls Rapper An “Icon Legend”

As Coi Leray continues to see her star rise, the 25-year-old recently linked up with someone she considers to be an “icon legend.” Appearing to party and dance with Busta Rhymes at an event, she shared a clip of their meeting on social media and opened up about how special the moment was for her.

“Igh listen.. look how God works .. like literally y’all are witnessing it right now… do you know how major this is ? @bustarhymes to meet you at a time like this (unplanned) is crazy !” the “TWINNEM” rapper shared, then adding “You are truly an icon LEGEND.”

Leray exploded onto the scene with her early 2021 single “No More Parties” and has sustained her success with a string of hits since. Dropping “Blick Blick!” with Nicki Mina earlier this year, she also released her debut album Trendsetter in April 2022 and her now-viral track “Players” this past month.

Featuring a number of hip-hop artists like Polo G and Fivio Foreign, Leray’s album admittedly took time to perfect.

The rapper revealed to Billboard in April, “I am a little anxious, I will be honest, but I am very excited because I do know that the body of work that I have been working on for these last three years is absolutely amazing.”

“Everything from the features to the production is on point,” she added. “The amount of time I took, and the many trials and tribulations that helped me make this story, will be great, and I cannot wait until it drops.”

In March 2023, Leray will perform at Roling Loud California along with Travis Scott and Kodak Black. With 2022 proving to be a busy year for the artist, it’s likely that she will continue to release new music in the new year.

Coi Leray Pours All Of Her Heartbreak Into Her Somber New R&B Single, ‘Wasted’

Budding hip-hop talent, Coi Leray, stands by her declaration, “girls are players too,” but in her new single, “Wasted,” she shows that love isn’t always fun and games.

Co-produced by Taylor Hill and Tommy “Tbhits” Brown, the track is a sonic departure from Leray’s signature high-energy club kid aesthetic as heard on “Blick Blick” featuring Nicki Minaj and “Fly Sh!t.” Instead, Leray leans into the vulnerable nature heard in her previously released single, “Anxiety.”

This go-around, the rapper explores the gut-wrenching reality that the person you love and care for deeply isn’t the one for you — a reality the recording artist knows all too well following her breakup with Toronto rapper Pressa.

Co-written by Alexander “Big A” Prado and Leonard “Skeez” Lowman, the song Leray trades in her spunky rap delivery for a melodic vocal approach as the R&B calls for a much more delicate approach. It is clear Leray chose this as her newest single to showcase her range and she knocks it out of the park.

As she sings, “I gave you one chance, then you f*cked it up, then you f*cked it up again / A mistake ain’t a mistake when you make the same one again / You told me that I’m the one, but I ain’t one of them / Communication gettin’ frustrated, can we make it make sense? / You make more time for your homies, you hit me when you feelin’ lonely,” it is hard not to be pulled into Leray’s pain.

Leray took to Twitter to share the inspiration behind the track, writing, “This song is for my bitches who wasted time, energy, and so much more dealing with you f*ck n****s! Ladies, let this song heal you and understand you are not alone!”

In addition to the song’s release across music streaming platforms, Leray teamed up with production companies Valley Visions and Unique Visions to direct the official video. The visual stars model Justus Pickett as Leray’s love interest and viewers are guided through the ups and downs of this love affair gone awry.

Coi Leray Ends The Year With Her “Wasted” Single & Music Video

There are only a few days left in 2022, and we’ve already received an undeniably impressive load of music over the past 12 months. However, some of our favourite artists continue to get their submissions in before the ball drops on December 31st, closing the year out on a high note. Just one of the stars sharing a new single this Friday (December 23) is Coi Leray.

For her part, the Boston-born entertainer has given us “Wasted.” The title is a reflective song whose lyrics focus on the downfalls of a toxic relationship. “I gave you one chance then you f*cked it up, then you f*cked it up again / A mistake ain’t a mistake when you make the same one again,” she sings as the first verse begins.

Afterward, Leray continues, “You told me that I’m the one but I ain’t one of them / Communication gettin’ frustrated, can we make it make sense?”

The Taylor Hill and TBHits-produced track came along with a new music video. However, it’ll be a few hours until we see the footage officially premiere later today.

Other recent releases to come from the resident Trendsetter include “Players” as well as “Fly Sh!t.” On top of that, she makes an appearance on CMG The Label’s “Hold Me Down” alongside 42 Dugg.

Stream Coi Leray’s “Wasted” on Spotify or Apple Music below. Additionally, make sure to check back at 1 PM ET to catch the premiere of her latest accompanying visual.

Quotable Lyrics:

You make more time for your homies, you hit me when you feelin’ lonely
Yeah, how you gon’ look at me sideways when I ain’t heard from you in five days?
How we together and don’t even speak?
You too busy, out here runnin’ the streets
Ain’t even checkin’ on me
We say it’s love but how could it be?

Coi Leray Posts Bikini Thirst Trap, Shares “Players” Club Mix

After debuting her “Players” single last week, Coi Leray shared a new club mix version of the song. Dancing in a two-piece bikini while on a boat, the 25-year-old featured a snippet of the DJ Smallz-produced track in a video posted on Instagram.

“I just wanna have a good night,” she captioned the video on Instagram, sharing it with her over six million followers.

Featuring a distinct Grandmaster Flash sample, “Players” features a fast-paced beat and catchy lyrics. Leray shared in the song that “girls is players too” as she offered fans a new anthem to end the year.

The musician has had an eventful past few years as she enjoyed a quick rise to fame. After debuting “No More Parties” in 2021, Leray went on to collaborate with Lil Durk for the remix.

She further went viral with hits like “TWINNEM” and “BIG PURR,” with fans boosting the singles on TikTok and Instagram.

Earlier this year, the Boston native teamed up with Nicki Minaj to release “Blick Blick.” The song was featured on her latest album Trendsetters, which later peaked at number 37 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Following mixed reviews and reports of low album sales, Leray recently admitted that she doesn’t let the figures get to her.

Sitting down on the Bars and Nuggets podcast, she previously shared in October, “They try to sh*t on my album. My album’s about to be gold. Let it be gold and you got to let them know.”

“You got to champion you. They said the first week it sold 11,000 sales. It’s so crazy, because out of all the albums that drop, nobody like, goes viral like that,” she added. “I keep their lights on, they keep my lights on. I don’t mind the blogs doing whatever they gotta do, right? But y’all gonna respect me. Y’all gonna appreciate me.”

Coi Leray Is Only About ‘Fly Sh!t’ In Her Smooth New Single

Coi Leray shows why she needs to be respected as a strong dual threat in her new single “Fly Sh!’t.” The multi-talent weaves in and out of rapping and singing over the flute-laced, mid-tempo beat. She makes a firm statement about her inability to be about anything besides fly sh*t and even makes a nod to the two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and his current team with the line “Feeling like Giannis, I get bucks.”

“Fly Sh!t” arrives in what has been an active year for Coi Leray. Back in July, she joined CMG The Label’s 42 Dugg on “Hold Me Down” from their compilation album Gangsta Art. The month prior, she shared the singles “Involved” and “The One (Sprite Limelight)” in addition to appearing on B-Lovee’s “Demon.”

The biggest moment for the 25-year-old came in April when she released her debut album Trendsetter, highlighted by the singles “Twinnem,” “Anxiety,” “Big Purr (Prrd)” featuring Pooh Shiesty, “No More Parties (Remix)” featuring Lil Durk and “Blick Blick” featuring Nicki Minaj. The album also included appearances from Yung Bleu, Fivio Foreign, G Herbo, Young M.A, and HER.

With all of this considered, it is no surprise that she is confident as ever on this new record.
