During a recent episode of It Is What It Is, Mase took a moment to discuss the frequent use of “pause” on the show. The term, which is used to suggest that something homosexual has just been said, has gotten them a fair bit of backlash in the past. Some critics think that it’s homophobic, while others simply find it humorous. Either way, Mase says he and Cam’ron are in the clear to use it, due to a friend’s co-sign.

According to Mase, Saucy Santana who is an openly gay man also uses the term. “For all of you guys that’s getting mad at us by saying ‘pause,’” he said. “Saucy Santana even says ‘pause.’ He co-signs us — we’re good.” It’s unclear whether Saucy Santana would approve of Mase’s use of the term, but regardless, it doesn’t look like he plans on stopping.

His co-host Cam’ron has admitted in the past that his use of “pause” has gotten a bit out of hand over the years, though he struggles not to say it because of his audience’s reactions. “Sometimes I try to take it out,” he explained to Complex in 2023. “But as soon as I do somebody’s in the comments like, ‘Yo, that’s cr*zy, Cam. How you ain’t say pause? That was wild — you ain’t gonna say pause?’”

“Then I gotta be petty and keep saying this sh*t because now n***as coming at me like I said some wild sh*t. So to answer your question, I don’t even want to say it that much, but sh*t done got out of hand, man. The old clip has social media users split. While some think it proves that he’s been “standing on business” since the beginning, others think it shows that he should have been disciplined more as a kid. “The man is who he say he is,” one fan writes. This isn’t the first time Tiny took to social media to show love to her son, however. Last week, Drake and J. Cole finally kicked off their It’s All a Blur — Big As The What? tour with a performance in Tampa. Already, the duo is making headlines for their tour outfits, props, announcements, and more. Of course, their onstage antics have also gotten quite a bit of attention. In a new clip, for example, J. Cole reacts to an audience member throwing their demo tape at him, which crashed onto the stage and burst out of its case.

An audible gasp is then heard from the rest of the crowd, though J. Cole just calmly walked past the CD, later kicking it off the stage. “N***a threw his demo up here,” he said. “It’s 2024, n***a. USB is okay.” While some critical commenters think he should’ve given the demo a listen, others suspect that J. Cole just didn’t want to trip over it during the show.

It’s no surprise that Birdman has received several accolades, and recently, his work in the music industry earned him one more. Earlier this week, the artist was given a key to his home city of New Orleans. His brother Slim, whom he co-founded Cash Money Records with, also accepted the award alongside the city’s mayor LaToya Cantrell.

In a new clip, Birdman and Slim are seen holding their awarded keys while Cantrell looks on in approval. “Nothing never came easy for us coming from Uptown,” Birdman began his brief speech. “I’m gonna continue. I’m not done with it. That’s why I never really cared about doing this, but I always felt like if you be honored that mean you finished what you been doing. I’m not finished yet.”

Birdman Says He’s “Not Finished Yet”

Birdman and Slim were met with applause from onlookers, as well as a few kind words from Mayor Cantrell. “Congratulations to Birdman & Slim!” a Tweet from earlier this week reads. “Yesterday I presented Keys to the City of New Orleans to Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams & Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams. Thanks for your contributions to music & commitment to the community. Johnny and Gladys Williams would be PROUD.” While Birdman certainly has no problems generating his own success, he’s also able to see the potential in others, as evidenced by his relationship with Drake.
