In his apology video, Will Smith revealed that representatives for Chris Rock said the famed comedian was not ready to speak to him.

In an update, PEOPLE magazine reveals that Rock feels he never needs to speak to Smith about the matter.

“Chris doesn’t need to talk. This is clearly something that bothers Will more than Chris,” a source stated. “Will needs to deal with his issues. Chris is fine.”

A second source added, “The fact that he is making jokes about it already is a good thing. That means he is assessing it. But the stress of the slap and the aftermath has not taken over his life. Quite the opposite.”

On Friday, Will Smith released a video on social media apologizing formally to Chris Rock for the Oscars slap and also answering some pressing questions from fans.

While in Atlanta at The Fox Theatre hours later, Chris Rock didn’t directly mention the video but did make a comparison joke between Will Smith and Suge Knight.

“Everybody is trying to be a fucking victim,” Rock said, according to PEOPLE. “If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith … I went to work the next day, I got kids.”

He added, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”

In the video, Smith apologized to Rock and his family members. He would go on to apologize to other winners during the night. Smith also stated he reached out to Chris Rock’s team, who responded, “he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out.”

Will Smith Speaks On Chris Rock Oscar Slap In New Video, “It’s Been A Minute…”

Nearly 4 months after the fact, Will Smith has finally broken his silence on the incident at this year’s Academy Award ceremony.

In a almost 6 minute video posted to his YouTube, Smith talks at length about the incident and answers questions that many people have been asking since the slap.

Smith first answered why he did not mention or apologize to Chris during his Best Actor acceptance speech. Smith said that after the slap everything was “fuzzy.”

“Um, I was fogged out by that point,” Smith said. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

He also apologized to Chris’s mom, referencing a recent interview where she said that the King Richard actor, “slapped all of us.” He also brought up Tony Rock, who has been very vocal about his disdain for Smith following the incident. Smith said that he and Tony were good friends before the slap, and admits that he and Tony’s relationship is “irrepairable.”

Smith said that he has made some realizations in the months after the incident, admitting that he does not think he should have gone about handling the situation like that.

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he said. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect, or insults.”

He also answered the question as to whether Jada said something to him after Chris made the joke and she rolled her eyes, to which Smith said she did not. “I made a choice on my own from my own experiences, from my history with Chris. Jada had nothing to do with it,” Will said.

After that, Smith went on to apologize to his wife and kids, and the fellow nominees and winners that night at the Academy Awards. He realizes that he had “stolen and tarnished” that moment, specifically mentioning Questlove’s reaction to the slap.

Smith closed out the video with a message to people who looked up to him and felt “left down” by his actions. He said that dissapointng people is his “central trauma” and doing such results in physical and emotional pain.

“Disappointing people is my central trauma,” Smith said. “I hate when I let people down, so it hurts, it hurts me psychologically and emotionally to know I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me, and the work I’m trying to do is, I am deeply remorseful and I’m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself, right? I’m human and I made a mistake and I’m trying not to think of myself as a piece of shit. So I would say to those people, I know it was confusing, I know it was shocking. But I promise you, I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world. And if you hang on, I promise we’ll be able to be friends again.”

Chris Rock Reportedly Calls Will Smith “Suge Smith” In Recent Stand Up Show In New Jersey

will smith slapping chris rock

Despite the uber-successful career that Chris Rock has had, it seems as if the only thing that people want him to talk about is “the slap.” Following “the slap” his ticket sales for his Ego Death World Tour rose, he received more attention, became a meme, and even his interview with Kevin Hart for the Peacock show Hart To Heart has a disclaimer in the beginning, telling viewers that the interview was recorded before “the slap.”

Rock addressed “the slap” in a recent stop in New Jersey where he and Kevin Hart, who is also on tour, co-headlined a string of stand-up shows across New York and New Jersey. In his routine, Chris said that he is “okay” and that he’s not a “victim” and was able to quickly go back to work following the incident.

“I’m not a victim, motherf*cker,” Rock apparently told the crowd. “Yeah, that shit hurt, motherf*cker. … But I shook that shit off and went to work the next day.” Rock then went on to further joke about the situation saying how he doesn’t go to the hospital for a “papercut.”

Later in his routine he reportedly referred to Smith as “Suge Smith” likening him to Death Row Records co=founder Suge Knight.

Following the incident that occurred in late March, Smith said that he would not address “the slap” until he got paid to do so.

If you want to hear Chris briefly talk about “the slap” you can get tickets to his Ego Death World Tour here.

DJ Jazzy Jeff on Will Smith’s Oscar Slap: “It Did Not Matter Who Was There”

DJ Jazzy Jeff on Will Smith's Oscar Slap: "It Did Not Matter Who Was There"

We have heard plenty of opinions following Will Smith’s viral slap at Chris Rock at the Oscars months ago. Now one of Smith’s best friends, DJ Jazzy Jeff, is giving his insight, noting that it didn’t matter who was in front of him, the result would have been a slap.

DJ Jazzy Jeff was a guest on the Gaq Podcast and revealed Smith would have stuck up for Jada Pinkett Smith regardless of the situation.

“People say, ‘Oh he wouldn’t have done that to no gangsta,’ let me tell you something about Will. Will is somebody that cliff dove in Jamaica and couldn’t swim,” Jeff said. “Will was the person that whatever he’s afraid of, he runs to. I ain’t got that in me. I don’t have that in me at all. I’ve watched Will almost die numerous times.”

Jeff added, “Will would’ve slapped Mike Tyson. It did not matter who was there. Will would’ve got his ass beat, but he was going to do what he was going to do regardless of who it was.”

You can hear it from Jeff below.

This marks the second time that DJ Jazzy Jeff has spoken about his friend’s Oscar moment. You can hear it the first time here.

Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock to Co-Headline Comedy Show in London

chris and dave

Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock’s recent on-stage attacks have made them the two biggest comedians globally. Being attacked while on stage has made them even closer friends, as it was recently announced the two would hold a joint comedy show in London later this year.

Live Nation announced the show yesterday, June 7, which will take place at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, September 3.

Since the announcement, neither comedian has said anything on social media regarding the show. But that doesn’t mean that fans of the two aren’t excited to see them take the stage, this time, without getting assaulted.

Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock have made headlines this year, but for reasons outside of their comedy. Back in March, Chris Rock was slapped by Will Smith on stage during the Academy Awards after he told a “G.I. Jane” joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith about her low haircut. After the attack, reports about her battle with alopecia came to light. Will Smith was able to win the Best Actor Award that night but was subsequently banned from the following 10 Academy Awards.

A month later, Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage while performing at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The attacker would later admit that he was offended by Chappelle’s jokes about bisexual people and revealed that he identifies as bisexual. Unlike Smith, Chappelle’s attacker was beaten backstage by Chappelle’s crew, and even Jamie Foxx got a couple of licks in. Rock was even backstage when Chappelle had been attacked.

After the show was announced, people instantly took to social media to get their jokes off.
