Donald Glover Had A Definitive Answer When He Was Asked If He’s More Talented Than Lil Dicky

Oh boy. When Donald Glover appeared on Vanity Fair‘s ever popular lie detector segment with Mr. And Mrs. Smith co-star Maya Erskine to promote their new show, Erskine used the opportunity to bombard him with questions about another of his shows — and possibly start a new beef in the process.

Erskine asked Glover — who has also rapped under the stage name Childish Gambino — whether he thinks he’s “more talented” than another rapper-turned-comedy-television-auteur, Lil Dicky, whose show Dave received critical comparisons to Glover’s show Atlanta. Donald’s answer? An unequivocal “yeah.” The interview went live a while ago, but has resurfaced on Twitter and is generating some buzz.

He even acknowledged that “this is gonna start beef,” but stuck to his guns, saying, “I actually like him. I think he’s a really nice guy. I’m just conceited.” Erskine wouldn’t let him off the hook, though, asking, “Were you insulted when critics compared Dave to Atlanta?”

This is something he’s addressed in the past — and I was definitely one of those critics, albeit in less of a “these things are similar” kind of way — but he didn’t shy away from giving another affirmative answer. He explained, “Not because I think that Dave is bad. I actually think that Dave is a good show. I just don’t think they have a lot in common.”

They didn’t… but they kinda did. Both dealt with aspiring rappers getting roped into some truly surreal situations with dark humor, moments of tenderness contrasted with sharp social insights, and surprisingly accurate depictions of the recording industry day-to-day. Both were made by extremely successful rappers known for the comedic nature of their rhymes. And it certainly didn’t help that they were even aired on the same network, FX.

But okay, yeah, there were a lot of differences too. Dave‘s Lil Dicky is a neurotic egomaniac who alternately champions and torpedoes his unlikely career despite or with the support of his colorful cast of friends. However, in Atlanta, Glover played the manager for Brian Tyree Henry’s Paper Boi, who seemed to view rap as more of a means to an end — getting out of the hood.

The only way to resolve this? A rap comedy roast. Have it on FX. Let Erskine, Chloe Bennet, and Vince Staples judge. It’ll be great.

Donald Glover’s been embracing his spicy side lately, admitting recently that his 2018 hit “This Is America” was a low-key Drake diss and sparking a mini-beef between the two actors-turned-rappers. But it sounds like he was just getting started.

21 Savage may be a London native, but Atlanta, Georgia, is where his heart is. As part of his forthcoming film, American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, Donald Glover will examine how, in 2019, the rapper found himself in a fierce legal battle with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Last month, 21 Savage’s legal issues were put to bed. To celebrate, he took a trip back to the UK for a larger-than-life homecoming concert. During the show, he was on track to release his first solo album in nearly six years. Fans now know this long-awaited music project will serve as the visual’s official soundtrack. So when does the American Dream: The 21 Savage Story soundtrack come out?

Unfortunately, the release details are a bit murky because the webpage linked to his social media pages seems to be broken. But according to 21 Savage’s latest post on X (formerly Twitter), the album is set to be released on Friday, January 12.

The promotional poster and supporting trailer starring 21 Savage, Glover, and Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin show that in the film, viewers will journey through his initial move to the US, Atlanta upbringing, and his rise to fame. Watch 21 Savage’s trailer below.

Yeat Hints At Potential Childish Gambino Team Up With Cryptic Message

Rage rap has become continuously more popular over the past couple of years. That is due in large part thanks to Yeat. The Portland, Oregon native has grown exponentially since his career got started in the latter stages of 2018. 2023 was perhaps his most important year so far. One of the biggest reasons why is all because of one man, Drake. The Toronto superstar brought him for the biggest hit on For All The Dogs, depending on who you ask. “IDGAF” was competing with itself in a sense with “First Person Shooter” for the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Additionally, Yeat also came through with his eighth project, AftërLyfe. It featured the likes of NBA YoungBoy, Kranky Kranky, and LUH GEEKY. With all of that success last year, fans might be expecting even more from the 23-year-old. Well, it seems he is shooting for the moon.

Could Yeat And Gambino Mesh?

Yeat shared a very interesting message on his Instagram story. “Me n gambino going chips for grass and yall would never know.” Of course, he is referring to the ever-so-talented Childish Gambino. Yeat’s sound is not the easiest thing to mesh with. So, it would be a weird but intriguing collaboration. It will also be the first meeting between these two if this does come to fruition.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new announcement from Yeat about a possible track coming with Childish Gambino? Can Yeat’s rage rap sound mesh with the unpredictability of Gambino? Will this be his greatest accomplishment as a rapper if this drops? Does this mean an album is in the works? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Subsequently, 21 Savage has achieved permanent U.S. citizenship. Furthermore, the trailer also showcases the involvement of Bel-Air star, Jabari Banks, who will play the role of Metro Boomin.

21 Savage And Donald Glover Tease A New Biopic, ‘American Dream: The 21 Savage Story,’ And It’s Coming Soon

21 Savage has one of the more interesting backstories in hip-hop, so much so that it’s being made into a movie.

The rapper teased the project, a biopic called American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, on Instagram yesterday, January 7. He did so with a promotional image featuring himself, Donald Glover, and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin, the latter two of whom will be playing Savage at different points in his life, it appears. The post was also co-authored by Glover’s Instagram account.

The image notes the movie is “coming soon.” The Epic Records and Slaughter Gang logos are on the poster, so they’re presumably involved in the production.

For now, that’s pretty much all there is to know about the movie. The poster includes a link to a website for the film, 21savage.americandream.com, but it does not appear to be active yet as of this post.

Meanwhile, aside from the movie, 21 Savage fans can also expect a new album in the near future. In December, Savage billboards started popping up in Atlanta, presumably in promotion of a new project. This came after a performance in the UK, during which he said, “London, I love y’all. I hope this ain’t my last time seeing y’all. And my album finna drop, so y’all get ready.”

21 Savage Reveals Rumored Biopic, Will Star Childish Gambino And “Stranger Things” Caleb McLaughlin

21 Savage has become one of the more elusive rappers recently. Sure, he has done plenty of features over the past few years. Additionally, he hit the road for a short time in the UK for a tour. However, in terms of his solo career, the London-born rapper has been stingy when it comes to dropping new music. It has been a little over five years since his last lone offering, i am > i was.

Furthermore, 21 has only dropped two solo singles in the past two years. His most recent was a collaboration with the Call of Duty video game franchise called “Call Me Revenge.” But, there is some excitement surrounding the trap rap hitmaker. Supposedly, he will be moving into the movie industry. Moments ago, 21 Savage announced on his social media accounts an image of himself, Childish Gambino, and Caleb McLaughlin. The latter is one of the main actors from the ever-popular “Stranger Things” Netflix series.

A post shared by @21savage

Not much is known about this project, but it appears to be a biopic of 21’s life. He captioned the post with “👀👀👀” The title of the film is American Dream: The 21 Savage Story. There is a chance we could learn about his time growing up in the UK and how he got over to the states. Another early but perhaps obvious predicition is that Caleb will play a young 21 and Gambino (aka Donald Glover) will potray a present day Savage.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new announcement from 21 Savage about his rumored biopic? Do you think he made the right choices by selecting Childish Gambino and Caleb McLaughlin? Are you excited about this new project If yes or no, what are your early predictions for it? How should this movie be released? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. What Is Nerdcore? The Evolution Of Geek Rap

In the very early 2000s, Nerdcore, a unique and vibrant subgenre of Hip Hop emerged. Subsequently, this musical movement has transcended the boundaries of traditional Hip Hop. It has since created a sonic space where rhymes are spun around video game controllers, comic books, and the complex algorithms of computer code. In the whimsical world of geek rap, MCs proudly wear their nerd badges, turning niche interests into lyrical masterpieces.

Over the years, this community of passionate artists has, in their own way, transformed the stereotypical image of Hip Hop. Through Nerdcore, they have infused rap with the essence of things like gaming lore and science fiction sagas. Moreover, they have also included technological aspects that usually captivate the minds of nerds and geeks worldwide. Let’s explore the history and evolution of Nerdcore from the early days until now.

How It All Began

Nerdcore’s origins can be traced back to the early 2000s. The subgenre emerged as a grassroots movement within the broader Hip Hop scene. As a matter of fact, the term “nerdcore” itself is attributed to MC Frontalot. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the genre. In fact, he was given the moniker “The Godfather of Nerdcore.” Kicking off in 2000, his music laid the groundwork for the genre. On the 2000 track “Nerdcore Hip Hop” by Frontalot, the MC explicitly referred to his music by its moniker. With that, he became the first rapper to call his music by that name.

Frontalot is a rapper known for his witty and intelligent lyrics centered around geek culture. His clever wordplay and unabashed celebration of geekdom struck a chord with the niche audience who felt underrepresented in mainstream Hip Hop. However, it’s important to note that before the explicit categorization of nerdcore, there were already Hip Hop artists incorporating nerd culture references into their lyrics. For example, the likes of MF Doom, Kool Keith, and Deltron 3030 made music with geeky subject matters and themes. Nonetheless, it was the emergence of a distinct community and identity that defined Nerdcore.

What Is Nerdcore Known For?

Nerdcore distinguishes itself by revolving around video games, comic books, sci-fi, technology, and other aspects of geek culture. The lyrics are filled with references to obscure movies, computer programming, and the joys and struggles of being a nerd. However, unlike mainstream Hip Hop, Nerdcore tends to forgo the conventional themes of street life, violence, women, and materialism. Instead, it opts for a more cerebral and introspective approach.

The Evolution Of Geek Rap

Over the years, Nerdcore has evolved and diversified, with artists incorporating a broader range of influences and styles. The subgenre’s appeal has extended beyond the imaginary walls of the internet. For example, it has led to live performances at conventions, gaming events, and even more dedicated Nerdcore concerts.

In 2008, the documentary Nerdcore Rising brought further attention to the movement. It specifically highlighted the challenges and triumphs of Nerdcore artists as they navigated the music industry. The film interviews key figures like MC Frontalot, MC Lars, Beefy, and others. It does a remarkable job of shedding light on the unique subculture they had cultivated.

It’s also important to note Nerdcore’s influences being utilized by popular rappers. Artists like Childish Gambino have borrowed elements of the subgenre into his work. Moreover, Tyler, the Creator has showcased an affinity for the genre and geekdom in general with his rap styles. While these artists can’t be explicitly categorized within the genre, they hover around it. Moreover, their embracing of uniqueness in rap has helped to inspire upcoming talents.

Conclusion

While the subgenre may not have achieved mainstream success on the same scale as traditional Hip Hop, its impact and influence continue to grow. Nerdcore artists have found a welcoming community that values their authenticity and celebrates the diverse interests that make up geek culture. Nerdcore is known for its clever lyrics, DIY mentality, and celebration of all things nerdy. Overall, it has created a space for artists and fans who may have felt overlooked in traditional Hip Hop.

Is Childish Gambino Releasing A New Album In 2024?

Donald Glover Writers Guild Awards 2023

There technically was a new Childish Gambino/Donald Glover project this year: an EP tied to his TV show Swarm, on which Glover wrote two songs and performed on one of them. As far as pure Gambino albums, though, the latest is 2020’s 3.15.20. Now, it looks like a new project could be coming next year.

Is Childish Gambino releasing a new album in 2024?

A TMZ interviewer caught up with Glover outside the Greenwich Hotel in New York and asked what’s coming up next from him. He said an album is on the way, so the interviewer asked when, and he replied, “Soon.”

In an interview from this past October, Glover was asked about new Gambino music and he responded, “I feel like it’ll be clear sooner rather than later. It’d be better for people to just tune in, I suppose. But I’m trying harder to not be cryptic. Tyler [The Creator] is always, like, ‘You’re so cryptic.’ But I’m like, ‘I’m really not.’ I just like suspense, I guess. I think it makes stuff better. But that’s just me.”

In a red-carpet interview from January, he also said, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.”

So, is a new Gambino album coming in 2024? Well, he said “soon,” but he also said “soon” in January and that was nearly a year ago now. So, ultimately, time will tell.

Who Is On Childish Gambino’s ‘Awaken, My Love’ Album Cover?

A new post is going viral online after the woman who appears on the cover of Childish Gambino‘s Awaken, My Love album claimed that she and her team never received the residuals they were promised. Here’s what to know about who she is, and the situation that reportedly happened.

Who Is On Childish Gambino’s Awaken, My Love Album Cover?

The model who appears on the album cover is Giannina Otero, who reportedly recently made a Facebook post about Gambino’s handling of the situation.

“We received low pay but were promised residuals but never received anything,” she said. “The only person who received residuals was a white woman who created the headpiece even though she was not on set to work on this (but she also deserves it).”

“After years of lies and silence then finding out statute of limitation complications… it’s been an exhausting, emotional, and overall sad thing to deal with,” Otero added. “So it took so much from me especially the fact that we all worked on it with so much love and being proud to represent black artists. All of my lawyers’ communications have been ignored by the artist and his team.”

The post also included a photo of Otero posing with a copy of the record. She made note that while she is proud of being on the cover, she also had a lot of complicated feelings and trouble celebrating the album.
