Busta Rhymes Throws Drink At Woman Who Grabbed His Butt, She Responds

Fans are often known to push boundaries, but Busta Rhymes wasn’t having it with a woman who grabbed him. The Rap legend is a relatively unproblematic figure in Hip Hop, and he’s not the type to unleash on supporters. However, a video surfaced on showing an unfortunate encounter that reportedly occurred yesterday (February 13) while Bus was in Las Vegas.

According to reports, Busta was at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the MAGIC Fashion Trade Show. In the brief video, he can be seen making his way through a small crowd with his team flanking both sides. Then, a woman comes up behind him and quickly grabs his behind. The rapper swings around, looking visibly upset, and immediately throws his drink.

The woman looked as if she was smiling or laughing before the drink toss. However, her later reaction wasn’t caught on tape, but she reportedly spoke with The Shade Room about the altercation. She was identified as Nikita Mathis, owner of Platinum Plus Fashions Boutique. Additionally, Mathis insisted that she didn’t intend to touch Busta inappropriately and was only excited to see the Rap icon.

“I didn’t mean to touch his behind honestly I was just happy to meet him and wanted a pic,” she further said. “Been a long time fan I admit I shouldn’t have touch him at all but he’s BUSTA I felt like I could possibly get a pic.” Still, Mathis’s explanation was criticized by people who claimed she shouldn’t have touched the rapper at all.

Busta Rhymes linked up with Slick Rick and celebrated the legend’s Lifetime Achievement Award given to him during Grammy Weekend.

HipHopDX notes, Busta Rhymes linked up with Slick Rick and celebrated the legend’s award.

“Congrats to the Godfather,” Busta Rhymes said.. “Lifetime Achievement Grammy, the win is secured.”

Among the Lifetime Achievement award recipients with Slick rick are Nirvana, Ma Rainey, and The Supremes.

“The Academy is proud to celebrate this diverse slate of influential music people spanning numerous genres and crafts as our 2023 Special Merit Awards honorees,” the Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement.

He continued, “Each creator on this list has made an impact on our industry — from technical to creative achievements — representing the breadth of music’s diverse community. We’re excited to celebrate this group of legends next month that continues to inspire and shape the music world.”

Today In Hip Hop History: Busta Rhymes Released His First Solo Single “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check” 27 Years Ago

On this date in 1996, Busta Rhymes of the almighty L.O.N.S.(Leaders Of The New School) crew dropped his very first single as a solo artist entitled Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check. The frontman of the four-man squad had been expected to come out dolo since the early days of L.O.N.S., but made a few guest appearances on tracks within the circle of Hip Hop royalty, but didn’t officially go for self until 1995.

At the top of the following year, Buss A Bus released the first single “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check” from his solo debut album The Coming, which was marketed and distributed by Elektra Records. The energetic track borrowed lyrics from The Sugarhill Gang’s impactful “8th Wonder” for the hook and added Busta’s signature animation for one of the most memorable singles of Buss ‘career.

Salute to Busta, the late Chris Lighty, and the entire Violator family for bringing Buss to us as a solo artist!

Coi Leray Gushes About Meeting Busta Rhymes, Calls Rapper An “Icon Legend”

As Coi Leray continues to see her star rise, the 25-year-old recently linked up with someone she considers to be an “icon legend.” Appearing to party and dance with Busta Rhymes at an event, she shared a clip of their meeting on social media and opened up about how special the moment was for her.

“Igh listen.. look how God works .. like literally y’all are witnessing it right now… do you know how major this is ? @bustarhymes to meet you at a time like this (unplanned) is crazy !” the “TWINNEM” rapper shared, then adding “You are truly an icon LEGEND.”

Leray exploded onto the scene with her early 2021 single “No More Parties” and has sustained her success with a string of hits since. Dropping “Blick Blick!” with Nicki Mina earlier this year, she also released her debut album Trendsetter in April 2022 and her now-viral track “Players” this past month.

Featuring a number of hip-hop artists like Polo G and Fivio Foreign, Leray’s album admittedly took time to perfect. 

The rapper revealed to Billboard in April, “I am a little anxious, I will be honest, but I am very excited because I do know that the body of work that I have been working on for these last three years is absolutely amazing.”

“Everything from the features to the production is on point,” she added. “The amount of time I took, and the many trials and tribulations that helped me make this story, will be great, and I cannot wait until it drops.”

In March 2023, Leray will perform at Roling Loud California along with Travis Scott and Kodak Black. With 2022 proving to be a busy year for the artist, it’s likely that she will continue to release new music in the new year.

Source Exclusive: DJ Cassidy Talks Celebrating Iconic Hip-Hop on Final Edition Of “Pass the Mic”

Next week, DJ Cassidy‘s final edition of his famous ‘Pass the Mic’ will air on BET, directly following the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. What began as a virtual series hosted from Cassidy’s home grew into a global phenomenon over the last two years. As he prepares to transition ‘Pass the Mic’ from a BET television series into one-time-only live in-person shows, Cassidy sat down with The Source to share how his final performance will be the capstone on celebrating what he calls “one of hip-hop’s golden eras.”

In his true showmanship style, Cassidy is putting on quite the event, teasing an all-star lineup of approximately 20 high-profile hip-hop heavyweights including Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swiss Beatz, The Lox, Too Short, and Ice Cube, as well as over a dozen surprise artists whom Cassidy refers to as his “hip-hop heroes.”

[Author’s note: I know who they are, and trust me when I say that it will be an epic performance.]

Cassidy explained to The Source how some of his shows have strategically showcased what he refers to as “Hip-Hop’s golden eras.”

He explains how the first golden era of hip-hop is considered by many to span from the early 1980s to the early 1990s, an era that gave birth to the first superstars of the culture – Run DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Salt ‘N Pepa, so on and so on.

“It was this pivotal era that I celebrated with ‘Pass The Mic: Volume One,’” he explains. “That edition featured thirty-six iconic hip-hop stars, all who debuted between the years of 1983 and 1993. This is best exemplified by the opening and closing songs of the show, “Sucker MCs” by Run DMC which was released in ‘83, and “Hip Hop Hooray” by Naughty By Nature which was released in ‘93.”

The second golden era of Hip-Hop is considered by many to span the ten years that followed. According to Cassidy, during this definitive period, music that would have typically been considered music for the streets became music for the mainstream. “Hip-hop began selling millions of records like never before, transforming global pop culture, from music to fashion to film. Rappers became pop stars, designers, and actors,” he states.

As for how these eras relate to his final installment of the ‘Pass the Mic’ franchise, he explains:

“After premiering ‘Pass The Mic: Volume Two,’ I immediately dreamt of a sequel, and I just knew that sequel should be the grand finale. Hip-hop is my first love and my greatest inspiration, so it felt right that the culmination of the series as we know it should be a celebration of Hip-hop. In this final edition, I’m going to pass the mic to twenty iconic hip-hop superstars, all of whom changed the game in their own massive way. These artists changed the sound, the look, and the influence of the culture. Their careers span decades. Their music transcends time and place. Simply put, this is the grandest finale I could have ever imagined.”

While this edition of ‘Pass The Mic’ marks the grand finale of the series as we know it, it also marks the beginning of the future.

“‘Pass The Mic’ has really just begun and will continue to bring the celebration to party people around the world,” Cassidy says. “One of the next chapters is ‘Pass The Mic Live’ in which I will bring the celebration to the live stage. In anticipation of what’s to come, I’ve already produced two epic pop-up shows, one at the Pegasus World Cup in Miami which featured surprise live performances from Ja Rule, Lil Kim, Mase, and Jadakiss, and one at the opening of the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City which featured surprise live performances from Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Fat Joe. The third pop show will take place on October 21st at the Grand Prix Formula 1 in Austin and will feature live performances from Robin Thicke, Wyclef Jean, and Shaggy. These pop-up shows are just the beginning of what’s to come for ‘Pass The Mic!’”

At its 2022 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards ceremony, held at LIV Nightclub Miami Beach, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) honored the finest in R&B and Hip-Hop. Busta Rhymes was recognized as a BMI Icon for the lasting and distinctive impact he has made on the music business and on subsequent generations of music producers.

The top 35 pop songs by BMI that received the most airplay in the United States the previous year were also revealed, along with the R&B/Hip-Hop Producer of the Year, Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Publisher of the Year. BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative (Atlanta), Catherine Brewton hosted the exclusive event.

DJ Nasty kept everyone on their feet with sets throughout the evening, while DJ Khaled welcomed the crowd and started the party. The music continued with Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer Pheelz playing “Electricity” and his viral hit, “Finesse,” as well as soul trap artist and rapper Morray performing his popular songs “Bad Situations” and “Quicksand.”

“Peaches,” written by Daniel Caesar, GIVON, Bernard “HARV” Harvey, Luis Manuel Martinez Jr. (Shndō), and Andrew Watt, was named Song of the Year. Producer of the Year was awarded to D’Mile for his work on Silk Sonic’s “Smokin’ Out The Window,” Drake and Travis Scott’s “Fair Trade,” and “Skate,” “Leave The Door Open,” and “Skate.” Megan Thee Stallion and Christopher “YC” Pearson, two successful songwriters who each contributed to three of the most popular songs, tied for Songwriter of the Year.

Busta Rhymes was named the BMI Icon for his “defining impact on hip-hop and for teaching the next generation of musicians” by O’Neill as the evening came to a conclusion. Before winning his prize, a video homage was played, featuring some of Rhymes’ well-known contemporaries, including Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, and Fat Joe. Then, Pharrell Williams was invited to the platform and talked about his longtime friendship with Rhymes.

 “We’re all blessed with this gift. It’s one thing to identify with the gift, it’s another thing to believe in it once you identify with it,” Rhymes said. “The most beautiful part about it is I earned this… I’ve never been celebrated as an icon before, but I never had to question whether I was one.”

Busta would close the ceremony by performing classic anthems like  “Break Ya Neck,” “Scenario,” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” with longtime friend and collaborator Spliff Star and DJ Scratchator. Pharrell would join Busta Rhymes for a performance of “Pass the Courvoisier.”

The 25-city tour, which is being organized by Live Nation, will next perform at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana, on September 1st. Thereafter, it will visit more cities across North America, including Atlanta, Toronto, Austin, Phoenix, and more, before coming to an end at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, on October 4th. Hip hop turns 50 this year, so now is the ideal time for these two pioneers of the genre to collaborate on a historical tour.
