Benny The Butcher Drops “Summer ’24” Under His Black Soprano Family Imprint

Benny The Butcher is more than just a prolific lyricist, he is also a label executive. The now Def Jam artist has been leading the charge for his Black Soprano Family since the early stages of the 2010 decade (2011-2012). Since its founding, The Butcher has brought on a lot of talent from the East Coast and his hometown of Buffalo. Some of them include Heems, Elcamino, Rick Hyde, and more. The goal for Benny was to really give his artists a true chance to really shine. Speaking to Billboard about this in 2022, he said, “There’s no ‘I’ in team; everybody holds everybody down. I’m the kind of exec that’s artist-friendly, because I give them the whole play. I let them be involved with their careers as much as possible and show them how to get to the money”.

In addition to this, Benny The Butcher is also doing his part by contributing releases to BSF like “Summer ’24”. This track is very short, but thanks to the killer and grandiose violins and nasty boom bap drums, courtesy of Nyckles, it is still memorable. Benny’s gritty performance on the 1:59 record is also a welcome addition. Even though it has been a few months since Everybody Can’t Go, the Buffalo bully is here to remind everyone of his greatness in the thick of the summer months.

“Summer ’24”- Benny The Butcher & Black Soprano Family

Quotable Lyrics:

It feel like Thugger already running trial but in my town it barely started
And the tension is strong
It’s like something telling me to kill soon as the weather get warm
The worst case for a veteran
As feds get involved
N****, I carry the weight with me like a medicine ball

Elcamino Asks Boldy James, Real Bad Man & Black Soprano Family For “No Fighting” On New Single: Stream

As far as killer posse cuts this week, Elcamino brought on a great team for the new single “No Fighting.” Moreover, he’s lyrically assisted by Boldy James on the cut, with production from fashion brand and music collective Real Bad Man and in collaboration with Camino’s Black Soprano Family label headed by Benny The Butcher. BSF has led to many great projects in the past few years such as They Spit On Jesus, whereas Boldy’s history with RBM is exemplified by some excellent LPs and EPs. As such, it’s no wonder that this track ends up feeling cohesive, full of chemistry, and like another great effort from everyone involved.

As far as the production, it’s a bit more old-school and deliberately boom-bap-inspired than some of Griselda’s affiliates’ more popular, drumless work. Nevertheless, the MCs here are able to glide with ease on the beat, accentuated by a ghostly, organ-like keyboard notes hanging in the background. Occasional vocal sample chops structure out the loop a bit further, and the short length of “No Fighting” doesn’t feel neither barebones nor stretched out. As for the lyrical performances, Elcamino is a bit more lively and charismatic on here with some funny turns of phrase and more blunt lyricism. On the other hand, the “Live From The Roxy” spitter from Detroit comes across as more clever, calculated, and vivid when it comes to his word choice, descriptions, delivery, and punchlines.

Quotable Lyrics
I could play the past block, because I’m a scrambler,
I could mumble rap, but I’m not much of a rambler,
Took my b***h from her ex, because he couldn’t handle her,
So I went and made it hot like my lady fan don’t work

Elcamino Makes A Quick Comeback With “They Spit On Jesus”

Buffalo, New York is a city that has plenty to offer in terms of lyrical talents. One of those is Elcamino. He has not been around as long as Benny The Butcher or Westside Gunn, but he has made a name for himself. It all started for him back in 2018 with the release of his self-titled project. Over time, he has been able to work with some of the rappers with the best pen games.

Fellow New Yorks like Benny, familiar collaborators like Fuego Base, and plenty of others to list. He has quickly established a career due to his steady output of material. It is the current streaming trend in hip-hop to drop constant songs and projects. For some it is annoying, but at least Elcamino has the standout production and bars to back it up.
