Latto, Doechii & More Receive 2023 Billboard Women In Music Awards

Latto, Doechii, and more received this year’s 2023 Billboard Women in Music Awards, hosted by actress and writer Quinta Brunson. Other nominees include Becky G, TWICE, Lana Del Rey, Kim Petras, Lainey Wilson, and Ivy Queen. Overall, Billboard wants to celebrate “influential female powerhouses” during its ceremony in a variety of categories.

The event itself will take place at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles on March 1st. While Billboard sent these awards out, they’ll reveal performers at the ceremony and the Women of the Year recipient later on. Still, Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp shared what these performances and accolades represent for so many.

“We’re thrilled to recognize these groundbreaking artists across genres and generations who are defining today’s sound – and paving the way for tomorrow’s women in music,” the statement read. “With the inspiring Quinta Brunson as our host, this year’s Billboard Women in Music Awards is going to be an incredible night.”

Furthermore, the organization will honor these female leaders in the industry with unique awards and acknowledgments. For example, Latto will receive the Powerhouse Award, and they honored Doechii with the Rising Star Award. Moreover, the Visionary Award is for Lana Del Rey, whereas TWICE received the Breakthrough Award. Also, they awarded Kim Petras as a Chartbreaker, Becky G for her Impact, and Ivy Queen for being an Icon.

Meanwhile, Latto recently tore through her freestyle over SZA’s “Smoking on my Ex Pack.” While she already had a wonderful 2022 with the release of 777, she started 2023 off hot as well. “Sundress with no panties on but I wear the pants / I been showing my ass without a Onlyfans. You know, the rumors come with privacy / Hmm, more money, more anxiety,” she raps on the song. Along with other singles like “FTCU,” maybe she’s back in album mode.

Latto, Doechii, And More Will Be Honored At The 2023 Billboard Women In Music Awards Hosted By Quinta Brunson

The honorees for the annual Billboard Women In Music Awards have been announced, as a new class of women celebrate a year of making their mark on the music industry. Set for March 1, 2023, at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, and hosted by Quinta Brunson — who’s making quite the mark of her own in television — the Women In Music Awards acknowledge the artists who have had an outstanding year.

This year’s honorees include Latin music star Becky G, who will receive the Impact Award; genre-breaking rapper Doechii, who will receive the Rising Star Award; reggaeton pioneer Ivy Queen, who will receive the Icon Award; pop singer Kim Petras, who will receive the Chartbreaker Award; Atlanta rap hitmaker Latto, who will receive the Powerhouse Award; country music rising star Lainey Wilson, who will receive the Rulebreaker Award; Lana Del Rey, who will receive the Visionary Award; and K-pop girl group TWICE, who will receive the Breakthrough Award. The night’s performers will be announced at a later date.

Previous recipients of Women In Music honors include Doja Cat, HER, and Saweetie, all of whom performed at least year’s show. Tickets will be open to the public, with an American Express member-exclusive presale on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 31 and February 1, and the general sale Friday, February 3 at 10 am PT. Doja Cat, HER, And Saweetie Perform At The 2022 Billboard Women In Music Event

Last night, the 14th annual Billboard Women In Music event was held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California to honor women in the music industry who have made significant strides or impacts in the past year. The event, which made its return after being canceled last year, awarded such honors as Woman Of The Year, Impact Award, Powerhouse Award, Innovator Award, Trailblazer Award, and Executive Of The Year. As with many awards events, the Women In Music conference also featured live performances from many of its honorees, including Doja Cat, HER, Saweetie, and more.

For Doja Cat’s stripped-down performance of “Alone” from her 2021 album Planet Her, the singer and rapper appeared in a hot pink cloak gown accompanied by piano and light strings on the darkened stage. Beginning without percussion, the instrumentation featured a slow build that never quite resolved, giving an understated appeal to Doja’s usual bombastic onstage antics.

Meanwhile, Saweetie performed her new song “Closer” — sans collaborator H.E.R. — keeping the “Icy flight attendant” aesthetic of the song’s video alive for the stage. In this case, Saweetie and her dancers wore bedazzled gold uniforms as they performed some extremely “disco queen” choreography perfect for the song’s ’70s dance vibe.

Saweetie’s fellow Filipino-American performer HER, meanwhile, delivered an acoustic take on her song “Fate.”

Olivia Rodrigo Puts A New Spin On ‘Deja Vu’ Before Accepting The ‘Billboard’ Woman Of The Year Award

Last night, Billboard hosted its annual Women In Music event and Olivia Rodrigo was the evening’s big winner. In addition to taking home the Woman Of The Year award, she opened the show by performing “Deja Vu.”

Rodrigo took a different approach to this rendition than she did the studio version we’re familiar with, as this one has more of the rock influence seen on some of her other songs, most notably “Good 4 U.” The performance began with Rodrigo singing over acoustic guitar. As the song worked its way to the chorus, other members of her backing back worked their way into the fold for a more guitar-driven rendition.

Later, she accepted the Woman Of The Year award and gave a speech in which she showed her appreciation for the women in music who came before her, as well as her contemporaries and up-and-comers trying to find their way:

“It’s not always easy being a young woman in the music industry, but I found so much strength from the female songwriters and artists who have come before me and paved the way and opened doors for so many young women like me. And that’s what so amazing about this event. Every woman here today is working to break down those barriers and change the narrative and support each other, and I am so inspired by all the incredible women in this room. I want to thank you all for your support; I am supporting all of you.

I want to say to all of the young girls out there who are writing songs every day in their journals, on their bedroom floors: I am constantly moved by your vulnerability and your creativity and bravery, and I promise everyone here today is working to make this world and this industry a better place for you.”
