Stephen A. Smith Throws Terrible First Pitch At Yankees Game

Stephen A. Smith finally got his wish to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game. Unfortunately for the ESPN star, he embarrassed himself on national TV. Smith strode up to the pitcher’s mound with all the confidence in the world before delivering a pitch that barely made it to the dirt in front of home plate. In fairness, even Smith looked disappointed with his effort. The Yankees went on to beat the Blue Jays 5-3, ending a three-game slump for the team. The Yankees will play a home series against the D-Backs this weekend before closing out the season with road series against the Blue Jays and Royals.

However, what makes the situation even funnier is how much shit Smith has talked about what a great first pitch he would throw. Earlier this year, Smith went on a mini-rant on First Take in which he extolled the perceived excellence of his hypothetical first pitch. “Not only would I throw out the first pitch, I would throw a strike,” Smith told his co-hosts back in July. Maybe next time, Stephen.

Smith Joins Victor Wembanyama In Bad First Pitches

Of course, Smith is not the first person to throw a bad first pitch. Hell, Smith isn’t the only person in the last few months to throw a bad first pitch. Prior to the NBA Draft, first-overall pick Victor Wembanyama was also invited to throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game. Wearing the home team pinstripes, and his giant hands dwarfing the ball, Wembanyama took up a position on the pitcher’s mound. While he attempted something of a wind-up, his lazy throw went wide left, almost missing the batter’s box entirely. Accepting his effort, Wembanyama smiled and embraced the catcher.

Both Smith and Wembanyama had bad throws. However, 50 Cent still remains the king of terrible first pitches. Infamously, 50 Cent sort of just threw the ball off to the side while throwing out the first pitch at a 2014 Mets game. Maybe it’s just something in the air in NYC?

Boosie Badazz Can’t Deal With The Heat At Atlanta Braves Game

Boosie Badazz may be a rap-star provocateur, but he’s just as human as the rest of us. Moreover, he recently shared some comical clips on social media of him and presumably his daughter, or at least a kid presumably part of his family. With fans in hand, they were trying to beat the intense heat that was present at the Atlanta Braves game they went to. “Where the designers at?” the Baton Rouge MC cheekily expressed. “I need a Braves wifebeater. Man, why y’all ain’t tell us it’d be this hot at the Braves game? God damn! Came out here… god damn. Oooh, I’m wearing a wifebeater next time.”

Funnily enough, this story sort of ties into another big news piece surrounding Boosie: his beef with Yung Bleu. Apparently, Bleu couldn’t take the heat as much, because he canceled the rest of his tour amid their online feud. Jokes aside, that situation escalated from purely a financial dispute to a personal vendetta, which was nasty to see develop. It seems like things have slowed down in the week since this development, though, which is good to see.

Boosie Tries His Best To Keep Himself Cool At Braves Game

As such, we know that the 40-year-old can handle warm weather, whether in beefs or under the sun. What Boosie won’t stand for is people not offering up the heat upon his request. Recently, he started another beef saga, but a bizarre one that might not see much updates. When the Trill Entertainment affiliate went to Waffle House, they refused to cook his potato, which resulted in a wild rant. If there’s anyone who knows how to make something out of nothing for online entertainment, it’s him.

Meanwhile, it’s at least nice to see the “Set It Off” MC going out and about to more casual or fun activities. Usually, his antics have an industry backdrop, are related to some club incident, or is just him getting himself roped into tough situations on social media. There’s nothing like a baseball game to get your mind off of things… just make sure to dress for the weather. On that note, come back to HNHH for more news and updates on Boosie Badazz.

Sneako & Lil Pump Pop Out At Marlins Game Together

Two polarizing figures within their fields seem to embrace their often eyebrow-raising bong. Moreover, content creator Sneako and Lil Pump recently popped out to a Miami Marlins game, and even showed up on the Jumbotron. Many fans commenting on social media about this joked that very few people in that field probably knew who either of them were. Regardless, the Florida rapper was all smiles in a Chanel beanie, iced-out chains, and his infamously iconic colored dreads. They have a lot of history together, so it’s not too random or surprising to see them popping outside for a good time.

However, if you’re wondering why these stars are “polarizing,” this baseball game isn’t going to help you identify that. Since the boom of the SoundCloud era in hip-hop, Lil Pump made a name for himself off of antics, raw but simplistic trap hits, and his carefree and often wild persona. On the other hand, Sneako’s notorious in YouTube and content cycles, most recently for transphobic comments with Jake Paul and Adin Ross. It’s unclear whether these two bonded for their chaotic personas, their questionable views on the world, or both.

Lil Pump & Sneako Go Out For Some Baseball

Regardless, it doesn’t seem like either has completely fallen off from pop culture, although they did take a dip over the years. While this is for very different reasons, it’s hard to posit that either will give up on leveling up in their careers. For example, Sneako recently claimed that he, Ross, and FouseyTube are starting a content house together, or at least considering it. Considering the backlash that each creator often gets for their behavior, we imagine that morbid curiosity will be what draws dissidents in.

Meanwhile, the “Flex Like Ouu” MC still makes headlines every once in a while for his social media. Sometimes it’s for his statements, other times for his fashion choices, and sometimes because he gets into some trouble. Whatever the case, it’s almost impressive how, despite their music and content dwindling in quality and reach, these two still get eyes on them. With that in mind, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Sneako and Lil Pump.

Udonis Haslem To Be Honored By Miami Marlins

After 20 seasons, three rings, and 879 games, Udonis Haslem announced his retirement from the NBA after the Heat fell to the Nuggets in the NBA Finals. A Heat lifer, Haslem spent all but one season of his career in South Beach. That one exception was the 2002-03 season, which he spent in France against going undrafted in 2002. However, he signed with his hometown Heat in 2003 and never looked back. He was a core piece of the team’s first championship in 2006. Additionally, he served as solid depth in the Big Three era that brought back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. Haslem ended his career with a stat line of 7.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Of course, newer basketball fans might not think Haslem was anything special. After all, he didn’t play in more than 40 games in a season after the 2014/15 campaign. However, that’s because he eventually ascended the need for floor time. He became a deep bench contributor, veteran leader, team mascot, and informal coach like a true basketball renaissance man. However, Haslem is taking his talents back to South Beach in a special arrangement to be honored by the city’s MLB franchise, the Marlins.

Marlins Announce September 7 As UD Night

The Marlins announced earlier this week that Haslem would be honored with a special night on September 7. Dubbed UD Night, the game will serve as yet another tribute from the city where Haslem was born, raised, and played. Additionally, Haslem will sign a one-day contract with the Marlins and throw the first pitch. The Marlins will be taking on the Dodgers in that night’s game. As mentioned in the club’s press release, Haslem attended high school less than a mile away from the Marlins’ ballpark.

“Udonis Haslem embodies the South Florida community. It is our honor to celebrate his many accomplishments on the court and in the surrounding neighborhoods of Miami with UD Night on September 7,” said Caroline O’Connor, Marlins President of Business Operations. “We could not think of a better way to recognize his commitment to the community than by supporting his newly launched foundation with a donation from every UD Night ticket.”

Derek Jeter Makes Surprise Hip Hop 50 Celebration Appearance At Yankee Stadium

The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of hip-hop are in full swing. While Diddy was making a heartfelt declaration about how hip-hop “saved his life”, there have many concerts and musical celebrations. During one of these concerts, hosted by DJ Kid Capri, attendees were surprised by a casual walk-on guest – MLB Hall of Famer Derek Jeter. The career Yankee was a 14-time All-Star and 5-time World Series champion before retiring in 2014.

Jeter just walked out onto the stage at Yankee Stadium to give props to DJ Kid Capri and hip-hop as a whole. “Hip hop. Welcome home. Thank you for defining the culture. 😘 ❤,” Long tweeted on August 12. Long has long been referenced in hip-hop media, appearing as a lyric in many, many songs. “Oochie Wally” is one of the more iconic tracks, a Nas classic with the bar in question sung by Horse.

Earlier this year, Long finally gave a hug to Ghostface Killah. Killah has referred to Long on at least two occasions. ““Nia or Halle Berry, though? Yeah, now you talkin’ ’bout some primetime!”,” Killah rapped in 2000’s “Who Would You Fuck?”. “Glittered out, stout face, tec, Rae up in the Hilton/ Heard Nia Long is in the building,” the rapper added on 2001’s “The Hilton”. “My Old Crush gave me a Hug,” the artist captioned the post, “shout out to @iamnialong,” Killah wrote on in the caption of an Instagram post featuring the two of them linking up in July.

Tim Anderson Posts Cryptic Tweets Aimed At Jose Ramirez Following Saturday’s Fight

Tim Anderson appeared to call out Jose Ramirez on Twitter, Sunday night, after his fight with the Cleveland Guardians third baseman the day before. He’s since deleted some of the numerous cryptic tweets from the platform.

“We ain’t never triipping .. This shit bigger!! We gone catch up with em later,” Anderson wrote in one post that he’s since taken down. In another, he added: “Keep kicking on me while I’m down..” In more posts, he referenced people “switching up” on him.

Tim Anderson & Jose Ramirez Break Out Into A Fight

CLEVELAND, OH – AUGUST 05: Jose Ramirez #11 of the Cleveland Guardians and Tim Anderson #7 of the Chicago White Sox start to fight as umpire Malachi Moore #44 gets between them during the sixth inning at Progressive Field on August 05, 2023 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Ron Schwane/Getty Images)

Anderson and Ramirez had it out during the White Sox’s 7-4 win over the Guardians on Saturday. The brawl ended with Ramirez connecting on a shot to the face of Anderson that sent him flying to the ground. After the game, Ramirez described Anderson as “disrespectful.”

He told reporters: “I think he’s been disrespecting the game for a while. I even had the chance to tell him [earlier] during the game, ‘Don’t do this stuff. That’s disrespectful. Don’t start tagging people like that because, in reality, we’re here trying to find ways to provide for our families.’ And when he does things he does on the bases, he can get somebody out of the game. I was telling him to stop doing that, and then as soon as that play happened, he tagged me again really hard, more than needed. And then he had the reaction, he said I want to fight, and if you want to fight, I have to defend myself.”

Wild Brawl Erupts During Guardians-White Sox Game

An AL Central showdown between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox took a wild turn in the sixth inning. A brawl broke out between José Ramírez of the Guardians and Tim Anderson of the White Sox. By the time it was over, Ramírez, Anderson, and both managers had been ejected.

The fight began after Ramírez slid into second base after hitting an RBI double to put the Guardians on the board and cut the deficit to 5-1. To reach the base, Ramírez slid hands-first through Anderson’s legs. After being called safe, Ramírez tapped Anderson’s leg and extended his hand as if asking Anderson for help getting up. Anderson refused and as soon as Ramírez got up, the two men started arguing. Dodging around second-base umpire Malachi Moore, the two men began swinging closed-fist punches at each other. While Ramírez and Anderson were dragged away by teammates, managers Terry Francona (Cleveland) and Pedro Gifrol (Chicago) continued to argue in the middle of the field. They were both eventually tossed, as were Cleveland’s third base coach Mike Sarbaugh and relief pitcher Emmanuel Chase.

Ramírez Explains Anderson Fight

“He said he wanted to fight and I had to defend myself,” Ramírez said in the wake of the 7-4 Guardians loss. “There are a lot of people upset. Thank God I haven’t heard of any news out of the trainer’s room. I’m not going to talk about it. I’m going to let MLB figure this out. They’ve got some work to do,” Grifol said of the fight. Meanwhile, Francona noted that “It wasn’t funny, but boys will be boys.” Both players will likely face suspensions. Meanwhile, Anderson is confirmed to miss the series finale on August 6. However, Grifol claims that this was a planned off-day.

It’s unclear what started the fight. However, it has been an especially tense series between the two teams. Ramírez said that he was tired of Anderson being disrespectful. He also claimed that before the fight, Anderson had been told to stop “jawing off” at Guardians outfielder Gabriel Arias. Meanwhile, Anderson was seen pushing shortstop Brayan Rocchio off the bag during the August 4 game between the teams. While Rocchio was called out, he was later deemed safe following a review.

Stephen A. Smith Says He’s “Shocked” No One Has Asked Him To Throw A First Pitch

On June 20, presumptive first pick in the NBA Draft Victor Wembanyama went viral after hilariously throwing a terrible first pitch at a New York Yankees game. The 7″2 French wonderkid sent the ball wide left, with the pitch barely clipping the batter’s box. While by no means the worst first pitch in history, it definitely wasn’t great.

The ceremonial first pitch has been a tradition in baseball for over a century. However, it was Ronald Reagan who turned it into the spectacle it is today. Before Reagan’s unscheduled pitch at an Orioles game in 1984, the first pitch was thrown from the stands onto the field. Now, it’s a whole ceremony in itself, with the guest throwing from the pitcher’s mound to home plate. And one person who would love to do it is the broadcasting legend himself, Stephen A. Smith.

Stephen A. Wants To Throw The First Pitch

While discussing Wembanyama’s first pitch on First Take, Smith was asked if he has ever thrown the first pitch. “No [and] you know what? I’m shocked that they haven’t invited me,” Smith began. “Not only would I do a first pitch, I would sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame at a Chicago Cubs game. Only thing I wouldn’t do is go to Boston and sing. I can’t do that because they’re the enemy, I’m a Yankees guy.”

When asked if he was sure he wanted to do the first pitch, Smith doubled down. “I am. And not only would I throw out the first pitch, I would throw a strike.” It’s a bold and hilarious claim from Smith, whose reservoirs of confidence never cease to amaze. It’s just the latest in a line of memorable moments from Smith this week. Elsewhere, he had something of a meltdown while expressing his displeasure with Julius Randle. Meanwhile, he made his thoughts on Ron DeSantis very clear. It’s fair to say that Smith’s daily antics bring us all a little bit of sunshine.

Victor Wembanyama Throws Terrible First Pitch At New York Yankees Game

Victor Wembanywama is widely expected to be the first-overall pick at the NBA Draft on June 22. It’s the first time the San Antonio Spurs have held the first pick since 1997 when they selected Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. Wembanyama is the most anticipated NBA prospect since LeBron James. The 7″2 star hails from France and has been playing professionally since 2019. Winning French League MVP this year, he led his team, Metropolitans 92, on a surprise Finals run. Wembanyama’s unique skillset led LeBron to call the prospect “an alien.”

Unsurprisingly, Wembanyama will be on-site in Chicago for the draft proceedings. However, he has spent the last week or so on something of a media tour ahead of the draft. While many of these moments have been sweet and wholesome, with Wembanyama mobbed by fans wherever he goes, there is one outing he will likely want to forget.

Wembanyama Misses Everything With First Pitch

On June 20, Wembanyama was in New York to throw out the first pitch at an MLB game between the Yankees and Mariners. Wearing the home team pinstripes, and his giant hands dwarfing the ball, Wembanyama took up a position on the pitcher’s mound. While he attempted something of a wind-up, his lazy throw went wide left, almost missing the batter’s box entirely. Accepting his effort, Wembanyama smiles and embraces the catcher.

It definitely ranks up there in terms of terrible first pitches. However, Wemby gets points for at least getting the ball from the mound to vaguely where the batter stands. Infamously, 50 Cent sort of just threw the ball off to the side while throwing out the first pitch at a 2014 Mets game. Furthermore, there was a lot of sympathy for Wembanyama on social media, with people arguing that given his stature and hand size, it must have been almost impossible for him to land an accurate first pitch. Big Boi Joins Broadcast Booth For Atlanta Braves Game

Everyone loves a baseball promotion night. The history of promotions such as “One Dollar Hot Dog Night” and “Bobblehead Night” can be traced back to legendary sports owner Bill Veeck. Veeck began promotion nights during his stint as owner of the then-minor league Milwaukee Brewers in the 1940s. The tradition followed him throughout his long tenure of ownership across a number of major league teams.

Nowadays, promotions are incredibly common and the Atlanta Braves are no different. The Atlanta-based organization has had plenty of giveaways and events throughout this season so far. Furthermore, it’s been a great season so far. At the time of writing, the Braves are 31-20 and lead the NL East by 4.5 games.

Big Boi Shines In Broadcast Debut

Currently on a nine-game homestand, the Braves had a number of promotion games during that time. On May 25, at the start of a three-game series against the Phillies, the Braves hosted OutKast Night to celebrate the Atlanta rapper. This included giving away bobbleheads of the musician while also having Big Boi throw the first pitch. The night was designed to celebrate the vibrant musical culture of Atlanta. It’s the only non-baseball giveaway that the Braves have on the schedule for this season.

However, that wasn’t Big Boi’s involvement in the night. After throwing out the first pitch, which he claimed he had torn his rotator cuff practicing for, the rapper headed up to the broadcast booth. He fitted in perfectly, adding some entertaining play-by-play commentary as the Braves took an 8-5 win. The hometown Braves took a win in a close game, with a 3-run bottom of the eighth breaking a 5-5 tie. Some of Big Boi’s best moments came over the pitching of the Phillies’ Aaron Nola. “He put both the mustard and mayo on that one,” Big Boi said over a particularly nasty strike. Here’s hoping he becomes a regular fixture at Truist Park in the coming seasons. Follow all the latest sports and music news here at HotNewHipHop.
