On Monday, July 22, Gambino’s official video for the Bando track “Lithonia” arrived.
The Jack Begert-directed video captures Gambino singing in a dark room about how “nobody gives a f*ck.” It seems like a relatively tame, grungy rock video for about 80 seconds. Then, it becomes obvious that everyone is teetering toward something drastic — tensions heightened so much sweat drips off their faces.
The truly shocking climax comes when Gambino gutturally screams and his eyes explode from his face. An onlooker’s face is covered in his blood, causing her to also scream wildly before he chases her through the woods.
“I always knew, like, Childish Gambino was like a character, on some level I wanted it to end,” he said. “I feel like the Childish Gambino character is almost like the boss from The Office. It’s like, yeah, that worked 10 years ago. It’s like, oh, it’s a little sad, but it’s also like, wow, the cycle kind of continues, which is great I think.”
Childish Gambino has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Bando Stone and The New World, via RCA Records. The 17-track LP showcases Gambino’s versatility and creative evolution, blending various genres and styles.
The album opens with “Hearts Are Meant To Fly,” a roaring electro-hip-hop cut co-penned with Ammaarae. This glitchy and twisty track sets the tone before transitioning into the moody psych-funk single “Lithonia,” written by Gambino himself. “Lithonia” evolves into a full-on operatic rock anthem, demonstrating Gambino’s range.
The summer-ready “Survive” features Gambino’s melodic vocals, flowing seamlessly into the ethereal “Steps Beach,” a guitar-laden track featuring Grammy-winning artists Steve Lacy and Fousheé. The duo returns on the alt-punk pop track “Running Around,” showcasing their collaborative synergy.
Gambino’s lyrical prowess shines in “Talk My Shit,” featuring Flo Milli, where his sharp bars and dynamic delivery take center stage. The album’s diversity continues with “Dadvocate,” highlighting Gambino’s reverence for blues, folk, and country.
Tracks like “Got To Be” and “Real Love” blend electro-pop, dance, and rap, while “Yoshinoya” boasts bold, unrelenting bars. The collaboration with Yeat on “Cruisin’” adds another layer of innovation, wrapping up with the Max Martin-produced anthem “A Place Where Love Goes,” which melds the album’s sonic diversity into a cohesive finale.
Bando Stone and The New World is abundant in sounds, exhibiting the plurality of Childish Gambino’s artistry. This latest project reaffirms his status as a boundary-pushing artist, offering fans a multifaceted musical experience.
On Wednesday, July 17, Glover revealed the album’s full 17-song tracklist in collaboration with Spotify.
The tracklist features Amaarae, Chlöe, Flo Milli, Jorja Smith, Legend, Fousheé, Khruangbin, and Yeat. “Lithonia” arrived on July 2, and “In The Night” featuring Amaarae and Smith was released earlier this week.
“The problem is we’re not having enough fun,” Glover said during an Instagram Live session last month. “OK, so, this rollout that’s coming, it’s like, mostly about fun. I’m trying to have fun because I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun.”

On July 6, Childish Gambino (AKA Donald Glover) put on a show at New York’s The Amph At Little Island. Per setlist.fm, Gambino’s set featured a bunch of unreleased songs, presumably from the upcoming Bando Stone And The New World soundtrack. One of them was a tune called “In The Night,” and now Gambino has shared the studio version of the song.
The track runs for about four minutes and features Jorja Smith and Amaarae. The tune gradually builds on itself, starting with a backing vocal melody and simple percussion as Gambino sings over it. Some synths and additional percussion work their way into the mix as the song continues to evolve into euphoria.
Smith and Amaarae presumably won’t be the only collaborators on the album, as Steve Lacy and Fousheé joined Gambino at the aforementioned concert.
Back in April, Glover revealed his upcoming plans. One of them is a soundtrack album for the Bando Stone movie, which he called the “final” Childish Gambino album. At the time, he also announced Atavista, an album that ended up getting released in May and is a reworked version of his 2020 album 3.15.20.

Yesterday (July 6), Gambino held a pop-up concert at Little Island NYC to treat fans to what he has up his musical sleeve. During the performance, Gambino was joined by Steve Lacy and Fousheé, who are both reportedly slated to appear on the album.
“Sounds like a heater,” wrote one user about the trio’s unreleased track.
Again, at this point, nothing has been confirmed. But clips shared from attendees seem to confirm a few of the names listed above, including Jorja Smith and Amaarae (Gambino’s upcoming tour opener).
After the song’s existence was inadvertently revealed by an overly enthusiastic fan, Gambino officially released it with no further hiccups. The track opens with a somber organ, suggesting something in the vein of his moodier psych-funk tracks from Awaken, My Love! — but then, it becomes a full-on, operatic rock anthem. It looks like Glover’s next musical evolution may end up being closer to Queen than Parliament. No, I’m not retracting that incredible wordplay.
Bando Stone & The New World appears from its trailer to be a bit of a comedic take on monster horror like A Quiet Place, with the titular singer emerging from his self-imposed isolation to discover an abandoned world that is now populated mostly by aggressive creatures. He quickly learns that he has none of the survival skills necessary to last more than a day in this new world; fortunately, he learns this from a competent survivor, who teams up with him despite his uselessness. Fans have already begun trying to decode the meaning of “Lithonia” and how it relates to this character, drawing parallels between “Bando Stone”‘s obviously fabricated moniker and the “Cody LaRae” whose name is repeated throughout the “Lithonia” chorus.
Last night (June 27), Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) took to Instagram to surprise his fans: He shared a photo of two tickets to an IMAX screening of A Quiet Place: Day One and wrote, “Bando Stone trailer is coming tonight @imax.” Sure enough, a trailer for Glover’s Bando Stone And The New World movie aired in IMAX theaters last night.
It hasn’t been officially shared online yet, but fan-shot recordings have made the rounds online. The two-minute video starts with Bando Stone (Glover’s character) wandering around an empty post office before heading to an also-empty convenience store. There, he encounters a character played by Jessica Allain, who holds a gun in his face. Stone reveals he’s a famous singer, and later, he joins Allain’s character and a young girl (perhaps Allain’s daughter or sister). From there, the three try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world full of dangerous giant creatures.
In April, Glover shed some light on his upcoming plans. One of them is a soundtrack album for the Bando Stone movie, which he dubbed the “final” Childish Gambino album. He also announced Atavista, an album that has since been released.
Check out the Bando Stone And The New World trailer above.
In April, Donald Glover confirmed he planned to release “the final Childish Gambino album” after Atavista, which arrived on May 13. The final album is believed to be called Bando Stone And The New World, and it’s supposed to release sometime this summer.
“‘Lithonia’ coming out July 2,” he said of an upcoming single during an Instagram Live session on Wednesday, June 26, as per Billboard. “That got leaked — kinda pissed me off to be honest. That’s another reason why y’all don’t get good sh*t. For what? It’s not valuable enough. It’s just a single. And I know who did it. Audiomack, f*cking no soup for you. You’re not getting the album now. That’s what time I’m on.”
An unnamed Audiomack representative provided a statement to Billboard, which reads, “This morning, we learned that an Audiomack user correctly guessed the URL for Childish Gambino’s already-announced new single, revealing a July 2 release date. The music itself was never playable. We already have a fix in place, which we are rolling out now.”
A YouTube user named Childish Brandino captured the entire five-minute Live. Despite his negative emotions toward Audiomack, Glover was mostly in a good mood, saying, “The problem is we’re not having enough fun. OK, so, this rollout that’s coming, it’s like, mostly about fun. I’m trying to have fun because I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun.”
Donald Glover shared some exciting news yesterday. More specifically, he started by sharing exciting news about exciting news: He announced a GILGA Radio Instagram livestream, on which he promised to share some new music. Now that the broadcast has come and gone, we know some more about what the end of Childish Gambino will look like.
During the show, Glover revealed that there are two more Gambino projects on the way, saying, “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans.” Elsewhere in the broadcast was a teaser for the “original soundtrack” to Bando Stone & The New World, which will serve as that final Gambino album.

“Atavista” is likely coming out in a couple weeks (due to at least 1 music video confirmed to be coming out in a couple weeks as heard in the interview)

Glover teased Atavista a month ago, and it is set to be a re-worked version of his 2020 album 3/15/20. As was indicated, the Bando Stone project is set to accompany a new movie. Elsewhere during the project, Glover also noted that he’s working on an anime project alongside Zach Fox.
Last year, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.”
