A few weeks ago The New York Times did a piece celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. They recruited Eminem to tell a story about rap music that influenced him. Cardi B’s Thrown Microphone Sells For Almost $100k At Auction

In one of the most viral moments of the year so far, late last month Cardi B threw her microphone at a fan while on-stage. More and more details rolled out in the days following. Though Cardi had asked someone to douse her with water to fight the Las Vegas heat, the fan appears to have thrown some kind of alcohol on her. She also may not have the best aim the world, as the fan who was hit by the microphone insists that they weren’t even the one who threw the drink. It all culminated in an investigation into the incident for potential battery charges by the Vegas police department. That investigation ultimately led to no charges being filed against Cardi.

Last week, the microphone that Cardi threw popped up for sale on eBay. Cleary fans were serious about wanting the piece of Cardi B memorabilia as more than 120 bids were placed on the item. According to TMZ, what began as a mere $500 auction quickly elevated into something much more substantial. The auction wrapped up Tuesday morning revealing that the microphone sold for an astounding $99,900. The microphone was reportedly auctioned off by the production company who owns it. The company also claims that the proceeds will be donated to two charities.

Cardi B Mic Sold At Auction

Just last week Cardi B and Offset released their new collaboration “JEALOUSY.” The song played into their public roles as a couple and featured plenty of hilarious bars throughout. Offset himself recently went on Good Morning America to explain how he procured Jamie Lee Curtis’ involvement in a promotional video for the song. Turns out all it took was an Instagram follow from the rapper.

After she seemed to be teasing towards her second studio album earlier this year, information has dried up completely. As her focus seems to have shifted more towards features fans continue to wait for her to deliver more material. What do you think of the massive final price tag for the microphone thrown by Cardi B? 1972 Wilt Chamberlain Jersey Expected To Fetch $4M+ At Auction

A 1972 Los Angeles Lakers jersey worn by Wilt Chamberlain during Game 5 of the 1972 Finals will go up for auction at Sotheby’s later this month. It is believed to be the most valuable piece of Wilt Chamberlain memorabilia to ever go up for auction, with the piece expected to sell for at least $4 million. The previous record for Wilt Chamberlain memorabilia was a rookie Wilt jersey sold in June 2023 for $1.79 million. Furthermore, that sale set the record for a game-worn, vintage (pre-1980) piece of NBA memorabilia.

“This jersey holds an extraordinarily significant place in the history of Los Angeles, not only adorned by the man many consider to be the greatest player ever to step on the court but as a relic from one of the greatest franchises in sports history,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles. The jersey will go on public display at Sotheby’s LA gallery on August 31. It is being sold alongside a collection of magazines, newspapers, and trading cards that depict the jersey in question. Online bidding will run from August 27 to September 28.

Where Does Wilt’s $4M Jersey Rank In Jersey Sales?

While the jersey will set the record for Wilt Chamberlain memorabilia, where does its $4 million price tag rank among other jersey auctions? The most expensive jersey ever to sell at auction is a 1998 Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey. Worn during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the jersey sold for $10.091 million in September 2022. It’s the first, and to date only, jersey to exceed $10 million. Just behind the Jordan jersey is Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” jersey from the 1986 World Cup. That sold for $9.28 million in May 2022.

While not as pricey as those items, the Chamberlain jersey is by no means cheap. Furthermore, there is a dedicated group of Chamberlain-specific collectors who will be very interested in the piece. As mentioned, the jersey is available for public viewing in LA until August 31. Be sure to come to HotNewHipHop next month to find out how much the jersey actually ends up going for.

Cardi B’s Microphone From Infamous Incident Hits Auction Block

In the aftermath of an intense interaction between Cardi B and an audience member, the microphone-turned-projectile is on eBay. The winner of this now-famous piece of equipment will have a cool backstory to tell their friends. Even better though, the proceeds are being split with two charities. Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which is where Cardi B performed, and the Wounded Warrior Project. The microphone is on eBay’s website for about a week and it currently is sitting at around $50,000.

The man responsible for this great deed is the owner of The Wave in Sin City, Scott Fisher. It is the audio production company that gave Cardi B her equipment. Fisher spoke with TMZ about the unmistakability of the mic. “It was pretty easy to track down the mic after the show because the white tape across the bottom of it says “MAIN.” His company is a large supporter of the nightclub scene in Las Vegas. If someone was looking to purchase this particular microphone, it runs the customer $1,000.

Debacle With A Happy Ending

Cardi B took the stage at Drai’s Nightclub on July 30 in blistering heat. The temperature reached 105 degrees and performing can be obviously very draining. So, it was reported by TMZ and numerous other sources that Cardi was asking fans to cool her off with water and ice during her show. One fan took that a little too aggressively and tossed her drink at the rapper. The fan filed a report for battery, but the situation now has a lighter undertone, with two charities receiving the divided final price of the mic.

The Wounded Warrior Project donates, “simple care and comfort items to the hospital bedsides of the first wounded service members returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.” The other organization is Friendship Circle Las Vegas. Their mission, “provides a fully-inclusive and non-judgemental environment that nurtures relationships and helps to create lifelong friendships for individuals with disabilities.” Be sure to let us know your thoughts on this whole situation below and stay locked in with HNHH for all the latest news and updates.

Drake Seemingly Purchased 2Pac’s $1M Crown Ring

Earlier this month, it was announced that 2Pac’s iconic crown ring would go up for auction at Sotheby’s New York. The ring is made up of various diamonds, rubies, and 14 karat yellow gold. The late legend wore it during his last public appearance in 1996 at the MTV Video Music awards, just days before his fatal shooting. Upon news of the auction, the ring was expected to sell for between $200K-300K. It was later revealed that it sold for more than triple that estimate, $1,016,000. The sale even broke records, and the ring is now considered to be the most valuable hip hop artifact of all time.

Drake looks to have snagged the pricey artifact, subtly flexing the news in a recent Instagram Story. He posted a photo of himself holding the ring alongside a caption about his appearance on Travis Scott’s new album. “UTOPIA OUT NOW,” he wrote, “MELTDOWN.”

2Pac’s $200K Custom Crown Ring To Be Auctioned

2Pac’s custom ring is scheduled to go up for auction later this month. 2Pac wore the self-designed ring to the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards just days before he was shot. According to Sotheby’s, 2Pac typically wore the ring on his left ring finger. It will be auctioned as part of a special series in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip hop.

In an interview last month with The Art of Dialogue, 2Pac’s biological father Billy Garland questioned the role of the U.S. government in his son’s death. “The government gave him the deal. [2Pac] was being tailed by the government the night of his assassination. He was being tailed by the government while in the studio,” he explained, “that’s a known fact.” Garland also spoke on Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur, revealing that he wasn’t pleased with his interview for the docuseries.

Garland explained being talked into an interview by the director of the docuseries, Allen Hughes. “We did an interview for about two hours,” he explained. Garland continued, “After I saw the interview in the documentary, I was slightly disappointed, let’s just say that. I didn’t like it. It was more about something else, than about 2Pac, if you know what I’m saying. If I knew it was about Dear Mama I might’ve still did it, but I probably wouldn’t have. Not for nothing.” He additionally refuted claims that his son was bipolar, claiming 2Pac’s behavior was a reaction to “betrayal” he experienced throughout his life.

Ticket From LeBron James Scoring Record Game Put Up For Auction

A $92 ticket stub from the game in which LeBron James broke the NBA’s career scoring record has gone up for auction. LeBron broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record partway through a February 7, 2023 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. At the time of writing, LeBron holds the record with 38,652 career regular-season points. The record had stood since 1989 when Abdul-Jabbar retired with 38,387 points. In the nearly 35 years since then, the only person to come close to the record before LeBron was Karl Malone. Even then, Malone, who retired in 2004, only finished with 36,928 points.

While many felt that LeBron breaking the record, given his longevity in both pure time and playing ability, was inevitable, it was still truly a historic moment. Furthermore, many figured it was only a matter of time before collectible items hit the market. Previously, Chris Ivy, the Head of Sports Auctions at Heritage Auctions, suggested that LeBron’s game-worn jersey from that night could be worth as much as $3 million if it ever came to auction. However, the ticket stub appears to be the first collectible from the night. The ticket is not the most scarce item with nearly 19,000 people officially in attendance. However, it is still expected to go for several thousand dollars.

Healthy Market Expected For LeBron Ticket

(Robert Gauthier / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)

The ticket, graded at Mint 9 by PSA, is being auctioned by the aforementioned Heritage Auctions. At the time of writing, bidding for the ticket sits at $2100. Furthermore, ticketing experts at Heritage told TMZ that they believed the ticket would sell for somewhere in the region of $5000. Despite the excellent quality of the ticket, the price will be suppressed by the potential abundance of other examples of ticketing from the event. By comparison, a badge from the 1997 Masters, signed by Tiger Woods, currently sits at $9000 on Hertiage’s website.

But where does the LeBron ticket sit in comparison to other tickets? There are a few ways to look at this. Purely in terms of tickets alone, the most expensive auction was in March 2022. A ticket from the inaugural 1934 Masters, signed by 17 of the 61 participants, sold for $600,000. It is believed to be just one of two surviving tickets in circulation. A third is held by the Augusta National Golf Club. In terms of basketball tickets, Heritage sold a season ticket from Michael Jordan’s debut for $468,000 in February 2022. While the ticket collectible market is still relatively new, scarcity is the name of the game. As mentioned, there were nearly 19,000 people inside Crypto.com Arena on the night that LeBron broke the record. With that many tickets potentially in circulation, the price will never truly skyrocket unless things drastically change.

Young Buck’s Catalog Heads To Auction To Pay Off 50 Cent Debt

In an attempt to pay off Young Buck’s debt, his catalog is heading to auction. Valued at over $700,000 by SongVest, the sale should help him pay off his creditors, including 50 Cent. Young Buck allegedly owes 50 Cent $250,000, for failing to deliver two albums per his G-Unit contract. The news comes amid ongoing financial struggles faced by Young Buck, who filed for bankruptcy in 2020.

Last year, 50 Cent’s legal team alleged that Young Buck was hiding assets, and attempted to recover some of the debt. They filed legal documents which stated, “By failing to disclose the Works and the Royalties, including without limitation at his meeting of creditors and in his petition and schedules, Defendant, with intent to hinder, delay, or defraud a creditor, creditors, and/or an officer of the estate, has transferred, removed, destroyed, mutilated, or concealed, or has permitted to be transferred, removed, destroyed, mutilated, or concealed his Property, within one year before the Petition Date, or property of the estate, after the Petition Date.” 50 Cent’s team also wanted the debts to be deemed as “non-dischargeable,” and additionally asked for “further relief as it deems just and proper.”

Young Buck later spoke on 50 Cent‘s legal filing on the It’s Tricky with Raquel Harper podcast. The rapper said, “We’re at a standstill. I’m definitely not looking to go down a whole drawn-out court situation when it all could be done on a business level.”

He went on to claim, “[50 Cent] sent cease-and-desist [letters] out to try to stop all of my music and get everything pulled down based on saying I’m still an artist on G-Unit. What I did was once [50 Cent] stopped me from being able to make money, I filed another bankruptcy.” Young Buck claimed that filing for bankruptcy “stopped [50 Cent] from being able to cease-and-desist anything.” He filed shortly after serving time in prison in 2019 for serious debt, including child support payments and outstanding debt to the IRS.
