Missouri Governor Refuses To Address Commuting Prison Sentence Of Andy Reid’s Son

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has refused to provide specifics on why he commuting the prison sentence of Andy Reid’s son, Britt. “No request, official or otherwise, was made on behalf of Mr. Reid for this commutation,” was the only comment given to ESPN from Parson’s office. Reid had served 16 months of a three-year prison sentence at the time of his commutation. Reid struck two parked cars outside Arrowhead Stadium in February 2021 while going 20mph over the speed limit. The crash injured six people, including putting a five-year-old girl in an 11-day coma.

Reid will spend the rest of his sentence under house arrest. However, the decision has raised questions about Parson’s impartiality. The governor is a self-described “avid” fan of the Chiefs and spoke at the team’s recent Super Bowl Parade in Kansas City. Parson became Governor in 2018 upon the resignation of his predecessor. He was re-elected in 2020. However, Parson is term-limited and cannot seek re-election again this year. The open race is expected to be between Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and Minority Leader of the Missouri House of Representatives Crystal Quade.

I mentioned somewhere that since the queen passed away, she might be the most famous woman in the world, but she handles it,” Reid said.

Kelce was caught bumping into the Chiefs head coach and visibly screaming at him during Sunday’s Super Bowl. At the time, the Chiefs were trailing the 49ers and struggling to find a way through the San Francisco defense. However, Kelce noted that Reid’s immediate reaction surprised him. “Coach Reid actually came right up to me after that and didn’t even have harsh words for me. I was ready to get a f-cking a—chewing and for him to just tell me to ‘f-cking be better’. And he just let [me] know, ‘Hey man, I love your passion. I got cameras on me all over the place man, you don’t want things to come off’ … and it just made me … fired up to get a f-cking victory for him, man. Black Creators Warn About Erasure As “The Fade” Becomes “The Kelce”

However, Kelce’s attitude towards Reid isn’t the only thing about the tight end being scrutinized. A New York Times report about Travis Kelce’s haircut becoming a viral trend has left several prominent Black media members unhappy with how Kelce is being portrayed. “The NYT thinks that Travis Kelce invented the fade 🤦🏾. When you have zero cultural competency on your staff, this is how you end up with stories like this, and explaining swag surfin,’ which is at least 15 or years old,” wrote journalist Jemele Hill on X.

As Hill noted, The Times referred to “The Fade”, a staple of Black fashion since it first grew to popularity in the militarized culture of the 1940s and 50s, as “The Travis Kelce”. Cultural markers do grow and adopt. And maybe it’s unreasonable for a 14-year-old Chiefs fan to know it’s a fade and not the Kelce. However, the 172-year-old New York Times should absolutely know better.

Yes, Kelce is averaging 108 yards per Swift-attended game compared to 46.5 yards in the games the singer didn’t attend. However, it’s a data set of four games against a data set of two games. Furthermore, a majority of his Swift-attended stats can be attributed to his two most recent games – monster performances against the Broncos (124 yards) and Chargers (174 yards). Before the Broncos game, Kelce hadn’t cracked 70 yards in a game. Furthermore, the games Swift didn’t attend include a 26-yard showing in a defensive slugfest against the Jaguars. Fun, but not exactly statistically significant.

Regardless, both Kelce and head coach Andy Reid appeared pretty tickled by the notion. “Hard for me to wrap my head around that sentence,” Kelce noted about the graphic. “Kelce keeps getting better with time — Taylor can stay around all she wants,” Reid joked at his post-game press conference.
