Ez Mil’s “DU4LI7Y: REDUX” Is A Dense Introduction To The Eminem & Dr. Dre Signee

Ez Mil made the whole rap game turn their heads when Eminem and Dr. Dre signed him to Aftermath, Interscope, and Shady. Moreover, the Filipino-American MC is the first artist to have done so since 50 Cent back in 2002, which already sets up high expectations. Fortunately, if you’re a fan of any of these artists, you’re probably going to like what the first release after his signing, DU4LI7Y: REDUX has to offer. Across 11 tracks, Ez showcases a lot of lyrical dexterity, narrative prowess, catchy melodic writing, and crisp but grounded instrumentals. If you hadn’t heard of this new talent yet, then let this be your first taste of someone that could rise to great heights.

Furthermore, that potential is based on pretty much every aspect of songwriting and production here. In addition, it has the additional cultural component of representing his heritage, switching between rapping in English and Tagalog on songs like “27 Bodies,” and he’s equally as fiery with both. Sometimes, the production plays with more contemporary sounds, whereas others tackle dramatic and impactful boom-bap and more classic sounds. Lyrically, Ez Mil focuses a lot on not just the rap game and his come-up, but also social issues affecting his home country and beyond. With plenty of versatile flows, deliveries, and melodic approaches, the 25-year-old lays the foundation for any style he wants to expand upon.

Here’s hoping that we continue to see more greatness from this promising young talent in the future. Dr. Dre Had To Change Original “Aftermath” Label Name For This Reason

Dr. Dre is one of the most legendary producers in the history of hip-hop. His story of founding his record label Aftermath and the success it went on to have is part of rap music history. But the influential label was almost called something completely different. Over the weekend MC King T, the label’s first ever signee told his story of its early days in an interview on Murder Master Music Show. One of the most interesting details revealed during the whole thing was that Aftermath was almost called something completely different.

Earlier in the interview King T sets up how he became involved with the label. “I’m like one of the first artists he wanted to sign, we just ended up in the studio up at Record One, they just put on a beat and I just knocked it out,” he explains. The resulting song was “Str-8 Gone” which T still has a lot of love for. “one of the best songs I’ve done in my career. I was just happy to be working with Dr. Dre.” Later on in the interview, he explains that he signed on so early the label wasn’t even called Aftermath yet. I was there before the name Aftermath even came about. I think it was something like Black Market or something” he explains.

Dr. Dre’s Label Was Almost Never Aftermath

King T also provided an explanation for why the original name was changed. “You know what it was something like Black Market, but somebody else had it, they were trying to sell it to Dr. Dre for some buku money,” he explained. They ended up putting the ‘Str-8 Gone’ song on the first compilation they ended up putting out on Aftermath.” This isn’t the only story recently that’s had fans reminiscing on Dr. Dre’s past. He and long-time collaborator Snoop Dogg just dropped another tease for their upcoming collaboration Missionary.

Reports from behind the scenes have had fans buzzing about the duo getting back in the studio together. Even so, the album doesn’t have any confirmed release date and it’s unclear when fans can even expect to hear it. What do you think of the original name of Aftermath being “Black Market?” Let us know in the comment section below.

Footage Of The Aftermath Of Tekashi 6ix9ine Beatdown Emerges

Tekashi 6ix9ine certainly needs to consider upping his security detail after the vicious assault in Florida this week. Following years of taunting other rappers and individuals on the internet, the rapper found himself in a sticky situation when three men beat him senselessly. The footage emerged on Tuesday evening of the rapper getting pummeled by two men while the third was filmed. However, new information’s emerged since then that shares insight into what happened afterward.

6ix9ine’s attorney confirmed an ambulance rushed him to the hospital after. But first, gym staff reportedly locked him in a room to ensure his safety first. Though police came to the scene, new footage emerged this morning of the aftermath of the incident. As one woman advises the man behind the camera to “stop recording,” he insists that it’s a “free country.” Then, he follows 6ix9ine through the gym. The rapper seemingly ignores him as he looks over his shoulders and enters a room. It’s unclear if this is the same room that the gym staff led him to.

The Footage Of 6ix9ine

We’ve seen many parts of the moments that led to the attack, as well as snippets of the aftermath. Prior to the footage of the actual beatdown, a video surfaced of the rapper walking out of the sauna area after the attack. The individual filming said that they are a fan to which 6ix9ine replies, “I know but y’all n***as jumped me” as he frantically tried to make his exit from the area.

Additionally, TMZ obtained footage of the three attackers entering the gym before the attack. Two men walk through the entrance and one of the men speaks to the front desk. Then, they meet up with the third individual before they walked straight to the bathroom/sauna area where they proceeded to attack 6ix9ine. At this point, police are seeking information on the suspects as their identities remain unclear. We’ll keep you posted on any further developments in the case. Dr. Dre Close To Finalizing $200M+ Deal Including Music Assets: Report

Dr. Dre is close to reaching an agreement in finalizing a deal that’s worth $200M, according to Billboard.

Sources close to the situation claim that the deal with Shamrock includes artist royalties from a pair of solo albums, as well as shares from his royalties from N.W.A. Additionally, sources said his producer included his royalties and writer’s share of his song catalog (the ones where he doesn’t own publishing) in the deal. The writer’s share could include songs from The Chronic.

UMG’s potential deal with Dre could include the ownership of the master recording of The Chronic. Additionally, Dre’s also including his share of Kendrick Lamar’s releases under Aftermath/Interscope’s deal with Top Dawg Entertainment. However, sources did not specify the songs included in the bundle. It should be noted his ownership stake in Aftermath isn’t offered as part of Dre’s assets for sale.

Shamrock Holdings could reportedly snag 75% to 90% of the revenue from Dre’s packaged deal. At the same time, UMG could possibly gain 10% to 25% of the remaining package, consisting of revenue from owned assets.

There are conflicting reports surrounding the number attached to the deal. The asking price is upwards of $250M but sources close say that Dre will likely get closer to $200M. Ultimately, the deal seems to be anywhere between the two figures.

DJ Premier Says a Collaboration With 50 Cent Fell Through Due to 50’s Deal With Dr. Dre & Eminem

DJ Premier Says a Collaboration With 50 Cent Fell Through Due to 50’s Deal With Dr. Dre & Eminem

Guess what? We could have had a 50 Cent and DJ Premier collaboration. During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, DJ Premier revealed while he was on Terror Squad, he had a 50 Cent collaboration in the works for a compilation project, but it fell through due to Dr. Dre.

Right before the single could be created, Dre and Aftermath swooped in and signed 50, blocking him from making any more new music before his debut album hit.

Premier revealed the collaboration talks came after “How To Rob” was buzzing in the streets and 50 Cent was down to do the record, citing an instant connection.

“He said he would do the record, and right when it’s about time to do the record, we get a call that Fif can’t do it,” Premier said. “I’m like, ‘Why not?’ and they like he’s about to sign to Eminem and Dr. Dre.”

Premier said he spoke with Dre, who said it was all love. “I talked to Dre, and Dre was like, ‘Preem, I love you, but he’s not doing any more recording until he does his debut album.’”

What could have been… but it may not be too late. DJ Premier is still cranking out collaborations, as evident with his new release with Mass Appeal, Hip Hop 50 Vol. 1. We could only hope 50 Cent has the desire to hop back in the booth again.
