The Kansas City Chiefs squared off with the lowly Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon (September 24) at home. The fans had plenty to be happy about as the Chiefs ran roughshod over the visitors, decimating them 41-10. Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce seven times for 69 yards and a touchdown. He continues to prove why he might be the greatest tight end of all time. While he always shows out, one special fan might have given him a little extra motivation.

Taylor Swift was mentioned a ton throughout the broadcast on FOX since she was sitting alongside Travis’ mother, Donna. The two were repping him in their suite as they got to see the second Chief’s victory. Tons of headlines have surrounded the possible couple and one recently states that the two are seeing where things go. A close source to T Swift says that she thinks Travis is “very charming” but it is nothing serious at the moment. The NFL star is also hoping to see her more and there is one Swiftie who thinks this will be a big deal if they make it official.

According to some audio obtained by TMZ Sports, Bill Belichick spoke on the Greg Hill Show about the pairing. The Patriots head coach has attended a Swift concert before and he is a huge fan of hers. So much so, that he thinks Kelce will be making the biggest catch of his career. Belichick told the show’s hosts, “I would say Travis Kelce’s had a lot of big catches in his career. This would be the biggest.” It seems like it is heading towards something more serious as TMZ Sports also got a photo of them heading to dinner in Travis’ old-school convertible.

Nick Chubb Suffers Graphic Knee Injury, ESPN Refuses To Show Replay

It is almost always a bloodbath when the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers face off. While it has been a one-sided rivalry for quite some time, things have been more competitive as of late. There will continue to be no love lost between these opponents from a competitive standpoint. It was a physical game just last night as the Steelers picked up a much-needed victory, 26-22, after getting obliterated by San Francisco last weekend. For the Browns, they fell to 1-1, but the worst part of it all was losing their star, Nick Chubb.

Right near the start of the second quarter, the visiting Browns were driving. Down 3-7, they were just a few yards away from the endzone. On first and goal Deshaun Watson handed it off to Chubb, as he barrelled his way for a solid gain with Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick making the tackle. However, it was not a routine sequence of events. What happened during the play might be extremely sensitive to some viewers. Please watch this video clip below at your own discretion.

Nick Chubb’s Season Is Over After This Tragic Injury

As you can see in the slo-mo video above, Chubb’s left leg bends very aggressively, which left him in tons of obvious pain. According to TMZ Sports, as well as many others, Chubb will not be returning to the field this season. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed it to reporters saying it was a “significant knee injury.” It was so hard to rewatch that ESPN announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman said they were not going to show it. Nick also wrecked the same knee back in his college days at Georgia. It is a heartbreaking end for a player who is so well-liked across the league. We send our thoughts to Chubb as he recovers.

Snoop Dogg & Chris Stapleton Cover “In The Air Tonight” As Monday Night Football Theme

The NFL has a new theme for Monday Night Football, and it mixes eras, genres, and fanbases to create a new anthem. Moreover, Chris Stapleton and Snoop Dogg graced fans with a cover of the iconic Phil Collins track “In The Air Tonight” on Monday (September 18). The rendition also featured Cindy Blackman Santana on drums, and made for a pretty grand and unexpected collaboration. ESPN and ABC aired it before coverage of the New Orleans Saints versus the Carolina Panthers and the Cleveland Browns versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.

According to a press release, this will continue for all Monday Night Football games, plus ESPN‘s Week 18 Saturday Doubleheader, Super Wild Card, and its first Divisional playoff game. “It was fascinating to me to see how one song could get you in that mode to go kick some tail,” the Steelers’ Hines Ward told ESPN. “I don’t care if you are the home team [or] the away team. You are hearing that song no matter what [before the game],” the Washington Commandeers’ Terry McLaurin remarked, as well. But now for the real question: how’s the song?

“In The Air Tonight” Gets A Monday Night Football Makeover

Well, it’s just as epic and over-the-top as you would expect for Monday Night Football, and that’s by no means a diss. Chris Stapleton provides soaring and passionate vocals, doing the drama of the original Phil Collins track justice. In addition, the country star pulls off a killer guitar solo towards the end, backed up by Santana’s expressive and powerful drumming. But you might be wondering: how on Earth does Tha Doggfather fit into this? The answer is a classically smooth and cheeky verse in the middle section, something that “In The Air Tonight” had never featured.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the only big musical move from the NFL for Monday Night Football. They also tapped legendary duo Justin Timberlake and Timbaland to curate music for specific games during the season. Back in late July of this year, Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce shared how bummed he was about not getting to meet the pop phenom. All of this was discussed on the podcast he co-hosts with his older brother and Philadelphia Eagles center, Jason Kelce. Their show is called New Heights and they bring on plenty of guests like NFL players and even their own teammates. Travis had a grand but cutesy plan to shoot his shot with Taylor during one of her Eras concerts.

He was going to give her a friendship bracelet that you can get at her shows. However, he was going to give her one that had his phone number on it. Kelce hilariously explains, “I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her. If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets and I received a bunch of them. But I wanted to give one to Taylor with my number on it. The publication says that a source told another news site, The Messenger, that Kelce and Swift were spotted together. “She saw him when she was in NYC a few weeks ago.” Both of them have not publicly announced a relationship yet, but that did not stop this NFL play-by-play announcer from getting in on the fun. Juvenile Hypes Up Saints With NFL Promo Video

Juvenile shared a promotional video to kick off the New Orleans Saints’ 2023 regular season, earlier this weekend. The Saints shared the hometown rapper’s motivational clip on their Instagram page ahead of their first game against the Tennessee Titans.

“For some, the march began before the Superdome was home,” Juvenile says while walking outside of Caesars Superdome. “We marched together through ruin. We marched all the way to the top. So why in the hell would we stop now?” The clip had Saints fans hyped in the comments section. “Chills… the adversity, the commitment, the love, no other fan base will ever understand what it means to be a WHO DAT,” one wrote. Another wrote: “When I see stuff like this, I get chills. Is it normal to be on the brink of tears watching this? Is there such a thing as too invested?!?! Don’t judge me, please. Thanks in advance.”

Juvenile Performs In New Orleans

Juvenile isn’t the only hip-hop artist to contribute a video to build excitement for their hometown NFL team this season. Method Man also shared a short film in honor of the Jets’ first season with Aaron Rodgers playing quarterback. “This here is where we write the story,” he said outside of MetLife Stadium. “For city, for land, for nation. As for the Saints’ season opener, they were able to beat the Titans 16-15. The team’s new quarterback, Derek Carr, debuted with 305 yards and a touchdown in the win. The defense was the star of the show, however, not allowing a touchdown and intercepting Ryan Tannehill three times. They will look to improve to 2-0 against the Panthers, next week.

Jadeveon Clowney Joins The Ravens

2014 first-overall pick Jadeveon Clowney has signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year deal. The contract is worth $2.5 million but could rise to as high as $6 million with incentives, per ESPN. Clowney had visited the Ravens on August 8 but left Baltimore without a contract. He also visited the Jaguars before making his decision. “He is a tough, hard-nosed, throws-his-body-around kind of player,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We played against him so many times. We understand how he plays and we’re excited to have him. I think he’s a little underrated as a pass rusher.”

Clowney spent the last two seasons with the Browns, recording 28 tackles and two sacks in 12 games. The Ravens opted to add Clowney after spending the offseason looking to add a veteran presence at edge rusher. The team also met with Kyle Van Noy and Dawuane Smoot. While the team is expected to rely on young talents like Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo, they were lacking experienced backups as the season neared. Furthermore, Clowney could see some starts at linebacker as Tyus Bowser struggles to overcome a non-football injury.

Clowney left the Browns after two seasons on bad terms with the team. As mentioned, he played poorly during his second one-year contract with the team. However, he also made comments that appeared to disparage Browns star Myles Garrett. “You’re all trying to get [Garrett] into the Hall of Fame instead of winning games,” Clowney told Cleveland.com. “I don’t even think [Garrett] notices. I ain’t trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everybody I play with. Me and him don’t have a problem. It ain’t his fault, and it’s B.S., and I don’t have time for it.” In the same interview, Clowney said he had no intention to return to the team.

In Baltimore, he reunites with Anthony Weaver, the Ravens assistant head coach who worked with Clowney for three seasons as the D-Line coach in Houston. “The guys just want to win,” Clowney told the Ravens’ team website. “They call and say, ‘We’re just trying to win. We can do it here. With the pieces around us, you can come in and help.’” I think they got a great team and a great chance to win. I want to be a part of it.”

In recent years, the announcement of the NFL schedule has become an event unto itself. Teams relish the opportunity to hype and humor fans about their upcoming season. Furthermore, it’s a chance to energize younger viewers and fans by jumping on the latest trends and memes.

After numerous leaks and teases, the NFL schedule for 2023 was released at 8pm on May 11. Soon after, most teams revealed their individual schedules with pre-recorded videos. However, no all of these videos were made equal and we’re here to break down the best, and the worst, of the league’s 32 schedule announcements.

The Best Of The 2023 Schedule Announcements

The Chargers won the schedule announcement for the second year in a row. After debuting their reference-filled anime announcement in 2022, the Chargers ran it back with another anime announcement this year. As with 2022, the highlight of 2023 was the absolute shade thrown at one opponent. Last year it was a joke about not making a joke about the Browns. This year, it was putting up information about gambling addiction when revealing a game against the Lions.

Other notable announcements included DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart “eating the schedule” for the Colts. Meanwhile, the Broncos concluded their trilogy of The Office parodies, featuring Peyton Manning and The Office‘s Angela Kinsey. Elsewhere, the Jets tasked Geogussr god “Rainblot” to uncover their schedule while the 49ers employed the skills of rapper Locksmith.

The Worst Schedule Announcements of 2023

Let’s start with the Eagles and Cardinals. Neither team produced a schedule video this year, with both opting to produce a Twitter thread instead. The Eagles compared their opponents to cute dogs while the Cardinals went with Spotify tracks. Very tame, very boring. The Eagles turned it into a video but still, low-effort work.

The Commanders, Lions, and Buccaneers all did videos around the joke of “what if we AI-generated the schedule release” but unfortunately, it appears that AI doesn’t know what comedy is. Meanwhile, the Raiders did a video that looks exactly like the sort of thing that the head office forces its employees to make in order to look “cool”. As for the rest of the league, there were some videos that were fun enough but didn’t exactly wow you. Aaron Rodgers Currently Owed $107M In 2024

Aaron Rodgers finally became a New York Jet this week. The Jets spent heavily to bring Rodgers to New York. Along with swapping 2023 first-round picks, the Jets also sent a 2023 second-rounder, a 2026 sixth-rounder, and a 2024 conditional second-rounder. The 2024 pick becomes a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65% of the Jets snaps this season. Rodgers is expected to eclipse that mark easily barring injury, mid-season retirement, or benching. That package got them the four-time MVP.

The move immediately shot the Jets into playoff, and even Super Bowl, contention. Rodgers is a seasoned veteran who can bring stability to the quarterback spot for an increasingly young roster in New York. However, the uncertainty around Rodgers’ future may cost the Jets big.

Rodgers Carries A $100M+ Price Tag In 2024

Aaron Rodgers signed a 3-year extension with the Packers last year. That contract is worth $150 million and carried over to the Jets when they traded. In that form, the Jets would have had a $15.8 million cap hit. However, according to ESPN, the Jets and Rodgers have restructured his 2023 payout to stop the team from going over the cap. The Jets added additional space by also restructuring the contract of John Franklin-Myers. The team is currently around $7 million under the cap. However, the restructuring has left the Jets with a massive pay obligation next year.

In 2023, Rodgers will earn the base minimum salary of $1.165 million. This will allow the Jets to sign draft picks and any additional free agents. However, that pushes a vast amount of money into 2024. Rodgers will be owed $107 million. $58.3 million of that will be his option bonus from this year, which has been converted into a base salary for next year. Another $47 million comes from the option bonus for next year. Finally, there is the $1.21 million minimum salary. All that totals $107 million. However, Rodgers has also indicated that he is not with the Jets for a “one-and-done” season and that he wants to add more titles to the Jets locker room. Furthermore, Rodgers and the Jets have indicated that additional restructuring could take place over the season. Rodgers’ current contract runs until 2026.
