Klay Thompson Explodes for 54 Points in Double OT Win Over Hawks

While Donovan Mitchell was dropping 71, Klay Thompson gave the Atlanta Hawks a 54-point night. It was the second historic performance by a star player against the Hawks in a row, following a birthday beating delivered by LeBron James.

Thompson scored 54 points on 21-of-39 shooting, including cashing 10-of-21 threes. The Warriors would continue their bounce back from Steph Curry’s injuries with a 143-141 double-overtime victory.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for me,” Thompson said. “There were some hard days for me when I didn’t know that this would be possible in real time. I am just going to embrace the heck out of it.”

“When you’re as competitive as he is, when you’re as good as he is, it’s tough sometimes,” Warriors forward Draymond Green said to ESPN. “For two years, everybody is doubting you. That same fire toward that doubt is what made you Klay Thompson … you don’t just lose that. That is embedded in you. It’s good to see him settle down. He’s not chasing it anymore, and it’s falling right in his lap. When you are that good, that’s usually what happens.”

Mekhi Phifer Says There Will Never Be A ‘8 Mile’ Sequel: “I’m Sure Eminem Wouldn’t Be In It”

Mekhi Phifer

8 Mile is a classic when it comes to hip-hop movies. The story is loosely based on Eminem’s early days as a rapper in Detroit, before his rise to fame. The song “Lose Yourself” which was featured in the movie was also Em’s first Academy Award win for Best Original Song. TMZ caught up to Mekhi Phifer, who played Jimmy’s friend Future, where they asked him about the possibility of there being a sequel to 8 Mile.

“Sometimes it’s just best to leave it alone. Once you make it a classic, no reason to fool around with it,” he said. Phifer also confirmed that there never was a discussion about possibly doing a second movie. “I think leave the classics alone and it’ll be all good,” Phifer added.

The interviewer then asked if it would be interesting to show what happened after Jimmy finally made it and become a big time rapper. “It could be interesting, but I wouldn’t be in it and I’m sure Eminem wouldn’t be in it either,” Phifer said.

Phifer had revealed on The Breakfast Club in 2014 that he once thought about passing on the role as Future because he thought it was “cheesy.”

“It was interesting because when it first came up I was like, it sounded cheesy,” he said. “I was like, ‘Nah.’ And I was due to start ER actually right before the movie started. And I was like, ‘Nah, I’m just gonna start the show, man.’”

Social Media Calls For Skip Bayless’s Firing After Insensitive Damar Hamlin Tweet

Skip Bayless Catches Heat For Saying He Has 'No Sympathy' for Dak Prescott's Fight With Depression

While Skip Bayless is known for his controversial sports takes and for often ruffling the feathers of his Undisputed co-host Shannon Sharpe, the sports talk show host is now under fire for his insensitive comments regarding Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety who suffered cardiac arrest after a tackle during Monday night’s game against the Bengals.

Following the incident, Bayless had tweeted that he understood the decision to postpone the game but questioned why they would postpone it so close to the end of the season.

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how?” Skip tweeted. “This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

People on social media and athletes alike quickly called for Skip’s cancellation because of the insensitive tweet.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin stood up after the tackle then collapsed just seconds later. CPR was reportedly administered for 9 minutes before he was put on a stretcher and escorted off the field and taken to a hospital. Players from both teams took a knee and some players even cried during and after the incident occurred.

The game was initially suspended, and the suspension continued even after Hamlin was taken off of the field. Reports have been spreading across social media that the NFL game each team 5 minutes to warm up before going back on the field and resuming the game. However, coaches refused to put their players back on the field, resulting in a postponement of the game.

After the injury, social media was quick to find and spread the word about a GoFundMe that Hamlin had started for a toy drive. The fundraiser only had a goal of $2,500 and within a few hours had reached over $3 million dollars. You can find the link to the fundraiser here.

Donovan Mitchell Erupts for 71 Points in Cavs' OT Win Over Bulls

Donovan Mitchell was on fire last night in Cleveland. The Cavaliers guard set a franchise record by scoring 71 points, becoming the most by any NBA Player in the previous 17 years. Mitchell’s efforts helped the Cavs overcome a 21-point deficit and beat the Chicago Bulls 145-134 overtime.

Mitchell is now in an elite list of NBA players who have scored 70 points in a single game, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor, David Robinson, and Devin Booker.

Mitchell’s total included 13 overtime points. Mitchell helped the Cavs reach the extra session by intentionally missing a free throw, rebounding his shot, and scoring a putback bucket.

ESPN notes Mitchell added a career-high tying 11 assists and eight rebounds, while setting career highs in 20 free throws made.

“I think I had a game like that once playing NBA2K, but I don’t think I shot that efficiently,” Mitchell said in postgame. “But that was a loss, so this feels that much better.”

The Buffalo Bills have announced their safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during the Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin is currently in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital.

Hamlin received CPR on the field after he collapsed after a tackle by Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin also received oxygen before he was taken off the field and transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

ESPN notes Hamlin is currently sedated. A large amount of the Bills remained at Paycor Stadium before departing and returning to Buffalo.

“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the NFL said. “The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game.”

After the injury, the Bills entered a moment of prayer. The game was initially set to continue after a delay. Still, Bengals coach Zac Taylor and Bills coach Sean McDermott met midfield to extend the break, eventually leading to postponement.

Hamlin was drafted sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft and had been starting in place of injured safety Micah Hyde.
