Eminem Recorded A Version Of Rihanna’s Hit Single ‘Diamonds’ Before She Did

“Diamonds” has proven to be one of the biggest hits of Rihanna’s career, but it almost wasn’t her song at all. In fact, Eminem actually recorded a version of it before she did, according to the song’s co-producer, Benny Blanco.

Speaking about the track with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Blanco revealed that he originally intended the song to be for Kanye West or Lana Del Rey:

“We wanted it to be a Kanye song or a Lana Del Ray song, I remember, at first. And we were like, ‘OK, yeah, cool, let’s do that.’ And then, I remember [song co-writer] Sia, just writing. Sia, being Sia, she can write like 700 songs in one second. This was before Uber and she was like, ‘ I just called the car. It says it’s going to be 15 minutes. Pull up a beat.’ Pull up a beat…. melody, lyrics, everything. Done, OK. Then, we’re listening to it a few days later, and [song co-producer] Stargate’s like, ‘Yo, we’re giving this song to Rihanna. It’s going to go.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, man. Should we keep the beat for Kanye? I don’t know about it. I don’t know if it’s… I don’t know.’

He then went on to discuss how he learned that Eminem had actually recorded a version of the track before Rihanna did:

“Then I remember I had given a beat CD like a month earlier to Paul Rosenberg to give to Eminem. And apparently, Eminem had done a song to it, too, and I didn’t even know. […] Paul was like, ‘Man, Em had that beat on hold.’ I was like, ‘What? I didn’t even know.’ So, I’m sitting there, and then I finally am like, ‘You know what, Stargate?’ I let go. I said, ‘You guys know better. Let’s do it.’ She cut the song. First of all, the second she cut the song, they were completely right. I was like, ‘This is the best song I’ve ever done.’ And then, this is how life works, full circle: Kanye West does a remix to the song.”

Chiiild’s Dreamy ‘Sleepwalking’ Video Heralds His Debut Album ‘Hope For Sale’

Montreal-based singer Chiiild has been writing music for years now, but made a name for himself with his moving 2020 EP Synthetic Soul. After the project picked up momentum, Chiiild has set his sights on a full-length release. The singer returned Tuesday to officially announce his debut album Hope For Sale with the dreamy track “Sleepwalking.”

“Sleepwalking” arrived alongside an equally tranquil video. Directed by Daniel Regan, the visual seems like a dream itself. It depicts a series of characters moving backwards in time across a remote beach, showing glimpses of a handful of tender moments. Speaking about the experience of making the visual, Regan described it as “a piece about evolutionary love and the subconscious told through dream logic.”

About the song in general, Chiiild said:

“‘How does it feel walking fast asleep, under the moonlight.’ Sleepwalking is a self-reflective song about reclaiming agency over your life. We all have something that makes us special, that nurtured can create something beautiful. With Dan Regan at the helm, the sleepwalking video enters a new dimension. Aiming to create a future nostalgia.”

Ahead of releasing “Sleepwalking” and announcing Hope For Sale, Chiiild sat down with Uproxx to discuss some of the Black artists that have had the biggest impact on Chiiild’s sound. He name-dropped a handful of musicians like the Ethiopian singer Gigi, Massive Attack, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, and The Weeknd.

Chance The Rapper Tries Out A New Profession In A Hilarious Fake Infomercial

Chance The Rapper‘s latest rollout has taken advantage of his big house and comedic chops to turn in some pretty clever promotional materials for his new singles. The latest is “1-800-STUNT,” Chance’s take on ’90s infomercials, which is connected to his next track, known for the moment as “House Of Kicks Theme Song.” The spoof infomercial sees Chance take on the role of stuntman, Jump Dustumba, as he stumps for his agency while wearing an arm sling.

However, rather than appearing in movies and TV shows, they’re available to stand in for customers doing regular tasks like working out, taking out the trash, or making a sandwich. Unfortunately, one customer finds out that having an “identical” person around the house has its drawbacks, as he catches Dustumba making out with his wife. It’s a cheeky little distraction of a video but I’m intrigued to see how it plays into the release of Chance’s next single.

Chance’s most recent single, “The Heart & The Tongue,” also came out after a week of social media teasing, so while it’s unclear just what he’s building up to, it seems clear that it’ll be something that he’s crafted with care putting all the free time afforded by pandemic lockdowns — and probably a little bit of boredom, as well — to good use.

Chance The Rapper Drops An Eyebrow-Raising Skit On YouTube

Two weeks ago, Chance the Rapper stunned Hip-Hop fans with the new music video for “The Heart & The Tongue,” a quick two-and-a-half-minute song that saw the Chicago artist in rare lyrical form. The scenery for the video was minimal, yet grand, as it was shot at what Chance has been calling the House of Kicks. Yesterday, the artist, known for his fan-favorite mixtapes Acid Rap and Coloring Book, took fans back to House of Kicks, but rather than new music, Chance treated them to a new skit.

Titled “1-800-STUNT (House Of Kicks),” Chance’s peculiar new YouTube video finds him and a few other familiar faces assuming the role of stuntmen that will ironically volunteer to do the mundane day-to-day tasks that nobody really likes doing. The clip stars Chance the Rapper’s wife, Reeseynem, Vic Mensa, and an assortment of other people participating in the humorous faux commercial.

If you’re wondering why the video even exists, the actual purpose of Chance’s foray into sketch comedy is unclear, but seeing as it stars artists like Reeseynem and Vic Mensa, perhaps it is a hint at Chance’s new artistic direction. Checking out the strange two-and-a-half-minute skit, you can watch it below.

Do you have any idea as to what Chance the Rapper could possibly be up to?

Sleepy Hallow Returns With New Song “2 Sauce”

Sleepy Hallow has returned to the fold with a new single, reuniting with producer Great John for “2 Sauce.” Set to appear on Hallow’s upcoming debut album, the track marks another strong release from the Brooklyn drill rapper, who has been on a consistently hard-hitting tear of late. On this latest joint, he takes to a hypnotic banger, sliding in with a laid-back delivery that meshes interestingly over the up-tempo percussion. It’s a testament to his instincts, as he understands when to pull back and when to let fly with full aggression.

“You know who call the shots, from the bottom, but now we on top,” he spits. “How was you still sleep? Now they lovin’, used to hate me / and my kicks clean, ain’t nobody ever had these.” Straightforward enough on a lyrical tip, but sold with enough conviction and charisma to shine. It should certainly be exciting to see how his debut album turns out, as he’s already carving out an interesting lane for himself. Case in point, his previous single “Tip Toe,” a diabolical Tiny Tim flip also orchestrated by Great John.

Look for him to continue establishing his presence as an original voice in the New York rap scene when his upcoming project lands in full. In the meantime, give “2 Sauce” a go and sound off below.

Money Man Isn’t Here For The Theatrics On “F**k A Show”

It’s been an extremely productive week in the world of Money Man. The Atlanta rapper might be reaching new heights in his career but he hasn’t switched up his approach to feeding the streets new music. Even if not all of his tracks are on streaming services, his YouTube page remains a goldmine for loose singles. This week, he flooded the street with back-to-back records and now, he’s returned with his latest offering, “Fuck A Show.” Money Man enlists Cmo Beats for the sinister trap production that’s matched by equally vicious details of the ruthless politics of the streets.

The latest from Money Man arrives after the release of “Statistic” and “For You.” Check his latest single, “F**k A Show” below, and sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

Sauce Gohan Shares Photos Of His Injuries After Getting Shot In The Face

Sauce Gohan, a member of Sauce Walka’s The Sauce Factory, is lucky to still be breathing following a brush with death last week. The rapper was shot in the head during a daytime attack while in his car. Gohan is recovering from his injuries and he’s officially out of the hospital, sharing pictures of the gunshot wounds in his face.

“LIFE Comes With Da Ups & Da Downs, Da Good & Da Bad, But LIVING For A Purpose Is One Of Tha Main Reasons I Say I’m Alive Right Now,” he wrote on Instagram. “Having A Bullet Still In Tha Head Thru Tha Temple & Still LIVING Is A Dream To 99% Of People But Reality To Me.”

The rapper posted some pictures to show how close he was to losing his life, showing his swollen right eye and the wound on his temple. It’s seriously a miracle that Sauce Gohan is still alive.

“Baby GOAT,” wrote Sauce Walka in the comments. “THE GOD.”
